Thanks for the comments to all and please join the 2022 Cannonball Year of Birth. Dedicated to all the Awesome builders on the forum! It's a fun lighthearted Community group build that keeps producing Great builds Year after year and doesn't even matter what the theme is. The builds are well planned and executed. I'll have the Build thread up for that next month. I'm inspired with the Cannonball Run and I hope to see an exciting turn out for next year's theme! I'm finishing a Matador that I was going to use as a back up plan for this year's Cannonball RUSE....it's almost done too! I'll have it finished in time to hopefully inspire everyone to finish their projects... Anyways, thanks again ☺

2022 Cannonball Group Build theme suggestion thread

The Type Two VW went virtually unchanged from 1950 to 1967. I believe the Revell kit in the picture is a 1958. Or maybe it was released/first issued in 58? I honestly don't know enough about those VWs to say what the differences (if any) are from year to year. I'd say since they used that bodystyle so long, it falls in that "close enough" category, kinda like alot of kits that are not exactly, but only changed slightly. I'm not going to be too critical on any entry as long as it falls in that category. -

Awesome diorama! I don't think there's alot of difference between 50 and 51... As moderator I'm not gonna fault you for wavering from one year back or up if necessary. As long as you have the overall bodystyle of your YOB, that will be close enough by me... You have some great skills and ideas there, it looks like...?? I'd love to see you build with us. I appreciate your interest and hope to see you join in the fun with us. Here is a 50 (Black) and 51 (Green) for comparison... -

I think 51 was a good year... How about the 3100 Chevy? It's a great kit and you can do alot with it... Or the 51 Henry J that's due out soon? I'd personally like to see this get built... The 51 Chevy that you mentioned is a perfect candidate also... I love that kit and you could choose to build the Fleetline or the convertible. -
I think you have your answer ? Save the Hondas for a rainy day ? My New year's resolution (I always make one centered around model building) is to get at least half of my stalled projects finished. I have probably fifty. So I'm in the same boat, trying to not start anymore... hopefully, some times you just can't help it. ? I just wiped out my local Walmart and I'm seeing a big stack of new projects I want to start. Trying to hold back and resist the urge ??

Yeah that's alot! I would say too much if I hadn't spent what did on a snap together kit... ? $43 from China... (kits never arrived) $56 more from a different vendor... (Bethlehem Pa. USA) $25 on the die-cast for wheels and tires (basically). And here I was crying about a measly $124 when there are other hobbies that cost in the thousands for one purchase. ? I do realize that this hobby does ad up. When models were cheaper back in the 90's, I would buy one a week (about ten bucks a week)... I thought that was fair to myself and I didn't over-do it. The Mustang turned out great! And the final result was worth every penny! I want the Crown Vic too... that will be my next purchase from Greg and a couple more Novas while I'm at it. ? Yeah, even Greg himself will tell ya he's not the best at remembering orders. You have to stay persistent with him. But the product is superb. ? -

Here are a couple of options for 2001... I'd build this kit, it's a great kit, I've built it two times before. Or you could build the Trans-Am too? Same bodystyle as the 2001 Tran-Am... -

Or you could just get the Greg Wann resin trans kit. It's a very nice kit and well done. IMO it's more accurate than the MPC Hatchback. I have two... My favorite car ever! I'm envious! Makes me wish I was born later ? I would definitely build one of these! I'm excited to see this project come together! Yeah I think the "Ruse" will forever be on our minds when we think of the Cannonball from now on... ? But Yeah I want to see far out looking Pro- Touring Hot Rod builds that leave no doubt that it's fast and built for the Cannonball Run! ? -

disconovaman replied to Mattilacken's topic in Model Cars
Awesome turn out on the Supra and well thought out. I'm impressed at how you pulled off all the great details in such a short period of time. One of the great things about the Cannonball Run Community Build is the time frame allowed to build one model. (about eleven months)... and even more time to plan the project. The fact is you didn't need that much time. ? I could use a bit of your motivation for sure...? I would love to see you join the next Cannonball Run with us and I sure hope you will continue on the truck and get it finished up too. -

I've been reading over the descriptions in the finished section... I've gotta say the amount of scratch building, re-engineering, and modifications on these builds are Amazing! Very impressive work! I knew at the start of this Cannonball we were gonna see some serious fabrication work. Without a doubt you guys delivered on my expectations! Congrats to all the finished cars. ? ???? We're coming up on the Holidays soon and I'm hopeful that everyone will have some extra time to get finished! -

Yes, that's what I had in mind when you suggested this theme. I'll give leniency to those who wish to take some liberties with the year as long as it is close enough... and as Mike had mentioned I may allow the "Cannonball Cheat" if you absolutely have to build a Nascar from your YOB. I just ask that you use a body that suits the build. I have always stated that my goal as moderator is to get folks building for the CBR! I never want to complicate the challenge. BTW, what an interesting concept! Great theme idea... It really does pay tribute to all the dedicated Cannonballers by celebrating our year of birth... very fresh concept so thanks for the suggestion. -
Thanks everyone for the comments. We were going to dinner last evening and this passed us... I had to smile, I probably would never notice a Ford Fusion in any other sainario lol... My neighbor is a detective for the state so I do see his car parked across the street every day... I'll admit I hardly ever gave it a second glance until I started the model...

2022 Cannonball Group Build theme suggestion thread

I have that option myself, and I thought I'd back date the 77 Revell Snap kit. The CBR Movie car was a 73-78. I don't think I want to build another snap kit for awhile so maybe the Sorvino's Jr Nascar would be a good starting point? I have some options for 73. I may go with a Camaro, Vega, or a Chevy C-10. I could even build a VW Beetle. I'm still thinking it over. 87 has some good options, Monte Carlo, Camaro, Mustang... you could build the GMC Deserter, it's an 84 but has the same bodystyle and would pass for 87. The Round II Scrocco is an 87, I think? that's a cool kit too. -

I turned a Revell Snap Ford Fusion Nascar into an unmarked Police Cruiser for this year's Cannonball "Ruse". I figured no one would give a speeding Police car a second glance... I disguised the Nascar by adding all the necessary elements that make up a Police car. I twin turbocharged a 392 Hemi for the trip from NYC to Cali, that should do the trick in gettin out to the west coast the quickest... providing I don't get pulled over and go to Jail for impersonating a Police officer!!! ??? Thanks for looking... It was a fun challenge, I hope I captured the true meaning of the "Ruse"... Please join Next years Cannonball Run CBP in the Community section. Thanks agian, See you all in the next Cannonball! My 9 year old daughter Joined in on the fun as well by building her own Police Nascar too...

"Cannonball Ruse" 2021 Finished Builds
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Community Builds
#27. disconovaman - Ford Fusion Nascar disguised as a Police car. Here is my entry for the 21 Cannonball RUSE. I used the Revell Snap together Nascar Ford Fusion of Brad Kowalski. I disguised the Nascar to resemble an unmarked Police Cruiser. (Who would suspect a speeding police car?) I started by moving the B-piller to the middle of the window openings, extending the back door glass, next I closed the C-piller portion of the top in, and finally I added door seam and door handle decals to complete the 4 door sedan appearance. The snap kit only had half an engine, So I seized the opportunity to go with a 392 HEMI with twin turbos. I figure that should be good for some where close to 2000 H.P. Details include Side mirrors, windsheild wipers, clear rear deck mounted spoiler, Spot lights, pushbar, limo tint, Government issued license plates, and 22 inch steel wheels with police center caps. I enjoyed brainstorming and incorporating the ideas into the challenge of this build. Thanks so much to everyone for inspiring me. I tried to capture the true meaning of the Ruse. I hope my efforts show it here with the finished result. -

One of my favorite parts of movies from this era is the plot gaps and puzzling storylines. This movie is a Classic must watch filled with WTH? moments... I loved the ending, left me feeling how I felt after I graduated high-school... I thought, well, the party's over! ? One detail most didn't know, Robert (AKA "Jim" the driver of that awesome slilver Vette! Also, If memory serves, the winner of the Cannonball!? (Revenge of the Nerds) He's David Carradine's brother... Just think, that Vette was brand new at the time! ?

That's a good idea with the Nascar angle. I was a little stumped about the YOB suggestion myself, in the beginning. However, now that I've researched models from my year of birth, I have some really good options. I'm thinking about how to incorporate at least four, if not all of the theme suggestions into one build. -
The Official 2022 Cannonball Run Theme Voting Poll
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Community Builds
I'm very sorry for any inconvenience or confusion with this, the voting process is still active and you should be able to vote. I'm not sure what the problem is? It appears that the free account I created allows for multiple votes up to 25 votes, which isn't ideally what I would've wanted in this case, thankfully it separates the votes into I.P. Regions and multiple votes are distributed accordingly. Unfortunately, the free trial is ending soon so I will have to close the polls earlier than I originally intended. I will say that I have reviewed the current status and there's a sufficient gap between first and second. Third, forth, and fifth, are tied up. If I were to end it now there would be a clear winner. I'll keep everyone updated and reveal the next CBR challenge soon... thanks for your patience. -
Nicely done! I remember this kit from the 80's but I never built it. I had a friend from school who built it. For some reason I recall the shifter being in reverse? I aquired one of these in a collection of build ups... it's badly built but I think I can save it. I'm inspired to restore it now... Also, I took two photos of my collection way back in 87... I would like to recreate some of them too.

The Seat belts are an Awesome detail. I love right hand drive cars. I've wanted to own something with RHD ever since I went to an Auto Auction with my dad when I was 17, there was a 86-87 Monte Carlo SS with RHD. It was in great shape too. My aunt carried the mail for 30 years she always drove a mail carrier with RHD. She had Jeeps, a Subaru, and Toyotas... I was gonna buy the Subaru wagon from her after she got a new Jeep but the car was just too used up. It had 250,000 miles on it. I seen a 66 Chevy II for sale in our local bulletin board paper... it was an old postal delivery wagon... I thought about buying it but I passed on it. It had a 6cly and power glide. Anyways, RHD cars always fascinated me.
