This would make a great diorama... I think? Snapped this shot outside in front of my house earlier this week... Virginia is getting their fair share of the white stuff...

She sure got the last laugh though huh? Everyone was waiting on her to turn 100 and they were just so sure she would. She died peacefully in her sleep 18 days short of her birthday. And just so there wasn't any doubt, she made sure it was 2021... One day shy of 2022... kinda ironic, and serendipitous. I always thought she was the star of Golden Girls. They'll never be another Betty White. RIP

If it's the Red 55 Vette pictured on the box that's in question... according to scalemates it's just a rebox and should have the hard top included in the kit as it was previously issued in Red with a top up version in 1995. If not, I have a dozen of those kits and could spare a top otherwise lol Also a company in China has built an electric car (SS Dolphin) using styling cues from the 1958 Corvette but on a modern driveline and all the comforts of a new car. Sold only to foreign countries not avaliable in the U.S. Hmmm? ? It would be cool to see a 55 Vette in simular fashion. Or maybe a long roof if you're feeling a wagon vibe? -
Well I'm fighting back on the 57 and at the moment I'm winning! I have repainted the car and it's better now, not as thick as the first paint job. Here is a sneak peek at the paint color and hood flame decals. This process has provoked some old memories of the first time I built it over 30+ years ago. I recall setting the hood scoop on and thinking it wasn't the look I was going for and I remember thinking I wanted to save it for a future build. Flames on 57 Chevy are Iconic. As I was applying them I had flashbacks of when I did it the first time! Amazing how the human brain works like that... These decals are old though and I had to take extra steps to clean all the old brown glue stains off the back. They turned out better than I expected... so far? I attempted to cover all the silver trim up with BMF then remove after the paint dried so it would look like my original buld and I wouldn't have to hand brush paint the trim on like I did on the first build. Unfortunately, with the straight enamel, it got buried in the paint so the only way to fix it will be to apply BMF over it. I didn't want to use bare metal foil because as a kid, building his first model in the mid 80's I didn't even know that existed. ? Oddly enough, I did know it was a thing by my 4th or 5th build because as I studied the boxarts it seemed like the trim looked like real chrome. I bought the AMT Prestige series 63 split Vette and it actually came with a small peice of BMF and I wondered what it was supposed to be used for. Does anyone know the origin of the product and when it first came to market? I suspect it was an actual model builder who got the idea to glue aluminum foil to a model and trim off the edges.? Anywho, I'll update again when I get the car trimmed out.

What happened to the '68 Impala molds???

My opinion is Round II to keep releasing those classic kits with improved tooling and expanded decal sheets. I buy them all if for nothing but for nostalgic reasons. I'll build just about anything truthfully... they have a good thing goin' It's exactly what we need in the car modeling world. That is one beautiful example of the 68 Impala... If that holy grail kit was mine I'd trade it for your built one in a heartbeat! ? -

What happened to the '68 Impala molds???
disconovaman replied to ranma's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Probably would be close, the interior panels may be the difference. It would be a cool to see a 68 come to market agian. I doubt this MPC copy I posted will ever get built. Highly unlikely ? If I owned it, I would cast/3D print the kit first. It's the only one I've ever seen in person... BTW it's not mine either it belongs to one of the members in our local club. Knowing him, he'll never build it. ? -

I'd like to officially congratulate 89AKurt with that Impressive Subaru Impreza... Thanks to everyone who participated in the Cannonball Ruse, it's with your support and those great builds that make the Cannonball Run a success. The idea of an eleven month Community build centered around a pop culture phenomenon is inspirational. Jantrix had a great idea for a tribute to the Cannonball all those years ago. Words spoken truly by Ray Kinsella "If you build it, they will come". I believe that quote holds meaning here in that we show up to build for this CBP every year. A special thanks to Mike (Lunajammer) for handling the poll. I could not have done it without ya!

That's my guess too... I kinda dragged my feet with calling it because it was so close. I guess I got caught up in the stats because I realized how to watch it unfold in real time. I kinda regret that now because I let it go longer than I should have. I apologize to you all for that, sincerely. However I did watch it closely and daily and I don't know how the past polls have played out but there were more than a few lead changes along the way and for me, it got exciting there for awhile. Judging from the results we can declare 89AKurt as the winner of the Cannonball Ruse 2021 CBR for that fabulous Subaru Impreza WRC. Congratulations Kurt. -
Impressive first half of the year... I'd say that you had a successful year in modeling all things considered and some Quality builds to show for it.

Got these two for Christmas and both could pass for 73, so maybe my build will be one of these. I was recently reading an article about the world's fastest tow truck and it gave me an idea to build a Square body tow truck lowered pro-street/pro-touring scratch build a bed with a wrecker boom and a massive Blown injected old school big block up out the hood! ?? -

Ahh Ok, Good to know. I never knew how many votes there were previously... and I never noticed the Results Breakdown before either. It was a close run according to the vote percentages. I'm satisfied that it was a fair outcome. Thanks agian for setting it up and coordinating the poll. With one week to go before we officially start the next CBR we have just enough time to announce the winner. I know that was cutting it close and I'm sorry for the delay and suspense. Merry Christmas everyone and Happy Holidays! ? -
Whoa! that was a tough call on the interior change. I like both... wouldn't have been easy for me.? But the result is a clean example! The top up option would've been a nice addition with Round II. I know alot of development and thought was invested on their part so I'm happy to see this one. I'm sure a resin top is already available by now...? I have one myself to build I'm planning a two door wagon, harvesting the top from a chevelle wagon.

We only have about 50 votes. I don't really understand it either there are alot of members on here and there should be alot more votes? The poll is only separated by 5% from 1st to third place according to the stats? If we call it now we'll have a winner and I'm happy with that. I am a little disappointed that we didn't have more votes though. You're welcome to close the polls Mike, if you'd like... -
There's a pretty good selection of them currently on Ebay for reasonable prices... back in the day, Toy's R Us had a shelf full for $3.99 each. How crazy is that? But Yeah, whenever I see these at swapmeets I buy them up. I believe the photo etched grill was in the CokeaCola issue. I only have one but the grill has gone missing. I must'a put it up for safe keeping and forgot where I put it...?
-
Here is a review of the kit, it's not the best but it shows you what you get, the author doesn't seem to really know the kit that well but you get the point. Also the front suspension is tubular upper A-arms but the molds kinda look stock. There are a few short cuts with the design but I still give the kit a solid 9 out of 10. ?
-
?? What an Amazing result with that engine and chassis, that is Gorgeous! Incredible skills! I'm speechless... If you're interested, I thought I'd give you a look inside the box on the 57 Street Machine, in case you want to pick one up... 502 Big Block with a 400 turbo automatic.. lots of Awesomeness awaits ? this kit is often overlooked...
-
Yeah? It's really a great kit. I remember when it was first released, the boxart wasn't inspiring at all, those corvette wheels... ugh! But when you see all that awesome chassis work and the opening trunk with the fuel cell, Flowmaster exhaust, and that great big block, it's worth it... just swap out the wheels for something more appropriate. It's the best 57 Chevy AMT ever made IMO. The kit comes with BMF and engine wiring. Some issues even included a photo etched grill! I'd love to see this kit get reissued. I recommend you buying one, you may have to pay up for one now but it'll be worth it.
-
Well Poo! What I have here is a Classic case of Life repeating itself! I guess I'm not too surprised, I must be out of practice with painting old enamels. It turned out OK but the paint was too thick for me and nowadays it's easier to strip paint and start over. I'll give it another go when I get the body clean... ? I did make progress on the engine, it's simple and easy, nothing special.

As we turn to the next page, here is the Roster. I'm slow to announce what I'm building because I'm still deciding... ??? not for lack of research and contemplating either. ? I tried to fix a mess of this 36 my cousin made back in the 90's the project got stored in his attic for about 25 years then I got ahold of it. I did the best I could with it. That chop is a tough one... Nice progress on this one! Here's mine for inspiration.

Wow! Really Awesome work goin on here. Cool Hand is showing some expert skills! That old Ford never looked better! I wasn't able to get much time at the bench this weekend. Gluing parts and sorting out all things 57 Chevy related was about it. I ran across this 57 Nomad and had a thought, how about a wagon in the exact colors and decals? Maybe I need to retract my earlier statement in which I made about the decals being on the original because they were "in the box". I guess I do like those afterall... ? I actually have copies of the AMT 57 Street Machine, the one with the Art Morrison chassis and big block. I plan on building a version of that kit with the decals and color scheme eventually... just looking for that photo etched grill I've misplaced. ?

Thanks guys, it was definitely a kit that I'll build agian in the future... funny story about it though... While I was researching all the details, (I only had the one picture so I'm sure there's alot of inaccuracies.) The one thing I know is wrong is the Saleen wing on the real car doesn't match the model because the one on the model is some pro-street spoiler from a parts box... That Saleen wing was only offered in one issue from 1991 (the kit is black on the box.) And I'm told they are hard to find. After hours of digging through spoilers at my buddies house. I came up with the closest one I could find. He has a collection and an unheard-of amount of just about everything model related. We couldn't find it, doesn't mean he didn't have it, we just gave up looking. Fast forward a week later and after I had mounted the Pro-street wing and got the car painted I found a Saleen wing in my own collection ? wouldn't you know it? Isn't that how it always goes? I decided since it's so hard to find I'm gonna cast it and make a few dozen just to have some. Anyways, thanks agian for the Nice comments I'll be sure to start a build thread of my own Cobra whenever I start one...
