Right... They're 1:24th Weld Drag lites from Monogram on alot of the ProStock drag cars and Funny cars. These are from the 57 chevy funny car... The GT taillights from the convertible would've been a great option... if those kits ever come readily available I would harvest the top from the Cobra and graft it to the convertible making a more accurate GT Fastback. The time frame I had for the project wouldn't allow for that kind of modifications this time though. I have a better respect for this kit now, it really is a simple build.

Yeah, I dig it. Thanks for the help gettin it to me. I really appreciate it. Actually has me wanting to build another one. Awhile back we were talking about the 1:24th stuff? I would like to fit the body over a Pro Stock chassis with opening doors I think that would work nicely... I'm hoping that Revell reissues it in the future! Thanks to all for the nice comments!

Wow! You're not messin around! This is fantastic! I am totally amazed at how you kept up with the car for so many years... I wished I had some of my old builds, and the fact that it's in that good of condition is a testament to how well you take care of your things. I agree that you shouldn't repaint it... good call. I wouldn't want to risk the Personal attachment... something to be said about an original paint job. and one you did as a youngster. I think a good wet sand and polish will be perfect. I can't wait to see it finished! My uncle brush painted his builds and I was always amazed how smooth they were. That should give a great result. I like the purple 57 with the High Roller chassis too! I had seen that posted on here before and thought it was cool. I'm definitely inspired to work on mine now! I hope to get some work done on it this weekend. I'll be watching it come together with excitement! ?

I think this is the most unique build in the line-up honestly. I don't think there was ever a Superbird in the Cannonball Run? If I'm right, yours is the first one! And if you look at a sea of imports, the The Great Wide Shock would eat 'em all for Lunch. ? I think there was a considerable amount of thought in the build even if it was quick to get it to the starting line and you can say at least you made it! ? I still say the best paint scheme is this one! I love the effect so much that I plan on doing it on my next build! Thanks for the tip!

The 21' Cannonball Ruse build thread
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Community Builds
Kinda had to laugh when I watched Finnegan's garage where they went to Louisiana for the Costal Cruise... A Nascar with working head lights and taillights... driving it on the street! Awesome! Thanks to everyone for the great run we had this year, looking forward to starting next one. Seems like we're running close on the Cannonball Poll... -
I finally got this off the bench! It's the 93 Cobra from Revell. I built it for this girl as a Christmas present to her boyfriend who owns the car.. The real car is a GT so It's not exactly the same but I wanted the build to be simple. It's close enough. 93 Mustang Hatchback.? It's the thought that counts right? I'm just happy it has matching wheels and color. ? Thanks to Zen (one of our resourceful members on the forum) for lending the kit. These things are getting scarce these days. It's about time to bring it back Revell... Anyway, on to the next... Thanks for looking.

Nissan Leopard / Skyline GT-R CBR 2021 Entry
disconovaman replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in Model Cars
Excellent example of the Cannonball Ruse! These builds are a constant reminder of what the theme was all about and (in my opinion) the most successful CBR to date... All the builds were carefully converted to Non Race Car appearance. They are all winners to me. Please VOTE! for your favorite! If you haven't already... -
I latch on to all those old 24th scale kits for nostalgic reasons. I built all of those kits back in the day. I'd be interested to see you rebuild your old 57, that would be cool. Part II I used Testors gloss black to brush paint the chassis and interior... I left the engine red (this one will be painted) and the details were painted silver. The replica will have flat colors on the interior and chassis for a more realistic look. The replacement will still have all the basic colors as the original. Blue, White, Black, Silver and Red. I am having wandering thoughts of changing some engine parts, intake and fuel set up mainly. I honesty do not remember what option I used on the original. I definitely don't think I would've used the fuel injection and the cross ram seemed unrealistic to me at 10 years old. I'll give it some more thought. Meanwhile I have bodywork and other things to do. One thing that bugged me about the hood is you can see the impression of the cut out, so I'm filling that over to take care of the problem. Also I've cleaned the mold lines, primered and wet-sanded, and sprayed the body with a silver base... almost ready for some color. I remember the next model I bought was the Rampage 69 Camaro. I liked that yellow alot... not to spoil any of the story, I still had that gloss Yellow from the brush paint set...? More later...

Yessir, I like the Karmann Ghia, great choice! Nice! I like the early research and your thought process. This is a nice addition to the list. I wanna build something out of the ordinary... I'm still brainstorming some ideas... having a bit of writers block honestly, maybe I'm overthinking it? ??? -
While I'm in limbo I decided to get this build under way. The Story. Way back in the mid 80's, I got that red 1:24th Monogram 57 Chevy for Christmas. I used my allowance to buy a brush paint set and a can of Testors Sapphire Blue metallic spray paint. I was about to build my first model kit ever. I started the build in the dead of winter with most of the paint work being in my bedroom using the paint set. I believe the set included Gloss white, Red, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Silver and Black. Disaster struck when I took the body out to the tool shed and tried to paint the blue over the red in the freezing cold. Needless to say it didn't work out very well. I vividly remember asking my stepdad how to get the paint off and his answer... GAS. ???? Unfortunately it attacked the plastic and left me sanding the rag marks smooth. At that point it was time to attempt paint job number two. Only this time I read the label on the can where it said to apply over silver base. By the time I got around to buying silver spray paint the weather was warmer... and I painted the model with a better result. (probably still hideous) ? looking at it, I thought there was too much Blue and decided it needed a white roof. I also painted the fin white too. The decals were added just because they were in the box. I'll continue with the story as the build progress continues... To be continued...

Couple of wild projects with the Buick and the AMX... those will be awesome to see come together! I have a parts box special Mustang... it's missing the grill and taillights also both bumpers are MIA. After seeing the Buick, maybe I should fab a grill to look similar and I could do something with the rear lights too... ? -

I'm interested is seeing this re-issued... I passed on a 2X4 Bronc-truck at a swapmeet a few years ago. (really rare as it turns out.) I've been kicking myself ever since... I could've had it for $4,000. It was in great condition too.- 326 replies

I've added the abbreviations STC for Subject To Change to your entry if you haven't decided exactly what you're building. I'll alter the Roster as we get further along and I'm happy to change it at any time as I did last year. I like the concept so I added it to the official rules. I'll add to and update the Roster as we turn each page. I'm seeing some fun projects already! I anticipate more along the way as well. I'm eager to get this one started. I'm still weighing my options on a project myself. -

Thanks Pat, the art is from a local artist and one of my good friends, a huge influence on me, (And one of the reasons I got intrested in Art and model building). Jimmy Gray. He's also a member of the local model car club too. I've been knowing him for 35+ years. I thought the Bus would be fun to tie in with the YOB theme because by the time you were old enough to ride a bus you were probably thinking about cars, (specifically, older cars) atleast in my case. I was interested in cars from an early age. My dad bought a 67 Camaro when I was 4 (still has it) he had owned some really cool cars growing up. I've always thought about cars from the year I was born but nothing ever jumped out at me. I did own a 74 Nova and my brother had a 73 Camaro. The Barracuda is a nice selection, my friend (Jay Woodard) won the National Bracket finals in Pamona CA. with his 66 Plymouth in 2001. It was Awesome to see a small town Virginia boy win a national title. -

The Cannonball Run 2022 Your Birth Year! Welcome Cannonballers! The Cannonball Run Community is proud to present Year Of Birth! Welcome to the 15th Annual Cannonball Run Community build! In this year's Cannonball Run we're going back to the year you were born. We are paying tribute to the builders, and asking you to build A model representing the year you were born. DON'T WORRY were not gonna be checking driver's license for verification... ??? Your build will be all the proof we need. ? Presonly, I don't care how old I am, I just care about how old I want to be... 195 ? I've met people that are proud of how long they've made it on this planet! The Rules: Your build must represent the year you were born. I understand that some kits are either one year up or one year back and bodystyles sometimes didn't change for a decade or more. If that is the case, I ask that you'd build to represent your birth year as closely as possible. I am also aware that the new model years were out in September, so I'll make an exception if you wish to build a bodystyle change (If you were born in September or after) ? My main goal is to get folks interested in building for the CBR! 1. The build can be either a new or started kit up to 25% complete. A re-builder or parts box special is okay too. 1/24 or 1/25. If you absolutely must do a 1/20 model we’ll likely bend the rules as we have before, but that’s the limit. EXCEPTION TO RULE 1. If you have a previously started racer from a previous running of the Cannonball (SA or MCM) 50% complete or less, they are eligible to run this year as long as they meet the theme requirement. All of our previous runs are still available on either of the two forums. If you are going to do this, please be certain it was involved in a previous run. We will continue to implement this rule each year, as the goal of this CBP was always to get people building and finishing models. 2. Before starting please post a photo of your kit(s) or pile o’ parts. No limitation on type of vehicle or technology used. 3. The car must appear to be street legal. Headlights, tail lights, license plate etc. 4. If for any reason you plan a build and wish to declare another entry in place of, you may do so at any time prior to the 48hrs. deadline. 5. As always, have fun and watch out for two priests in a red Ferrari. That’s it for rules. The following is just FYI. - You may start a separate build thread for your build if you wish, but please keep the CBP thread updated. - Build time begins on January 1st, 2022, local time and ends at 11:59PM on December 1st, 2022, local time. That’s 11 months’ folks. - After the finish, we will create a poll and we’ll have the “race”, a public vote. - A few weeks prior I’ll start a completed builds thread, for posting up your work and we’ll work the poll from that thread. Take some GOOD PHOTOS! I cannot emphasize this enough, good photos are essential. No one has won this with crappy photos in poor lighting. - You may build as many models as you wish for this CBP but only one can be entered in the public voting poll after Dec. 2. - You can enter this CBP at any time up to 48 hours before the end date. A Special Thanks to FatBrian for initiating this year's Theme and voting poll. -
I've been reading up on the past P2P events, mostly the more recent races. I've read some interesting stories of triumphs and tragedys. I'm excited to see the builds here. I would like try to come up with something... if I don't get distracted. It's kinda like the Cannonball but with rules. So Cannonball Run with the exception of anything goes. ?
