1957 Chevy 4 door Resin Question
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
These shots are great. I can hardly imagine 50's cars being used for what they were intended for ? You would never see that nowadays. This is exactly the color scheme I mentioned earlier.. I'm excited to start working on the project even more now. Thanks for sharing! -
Awesome build! Rick and Daryll could've used that when they were making their way to Alexandria...?

1957 Chevy 4 door Resin Question
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
RMR seem to have quality products and unique subjects and they may list the kits as out of stock because they're made to order, just an observation. I ordered a body from Steve Kohler at Star Models. He was very quick to email back, he does quality work I've been told... I'll keep you guys posted... thanks for the feed back and inbox messages to let me know where to find this kit.. ? P.S. I went ahead on and done the right thing and ordered a 56 Del-Rey 4 door while I was at it ? I really love the two tone paint schemes on the Del-Rey... so look for that in the near future. -
1957 Chevy 4 door Resin Question

Does anyone know if there is any surviving resin company that still casts a 57 4 door sedan kit? -
If I ever win big in the lottery The 57 Chevy will be on the must have list... 57 Chevys are the definition of Cool!

I'll be building the Monogram 57 Chevy Bel-air hardtop. I got this kit for Christmas in 1984. This is the first model I ever built. I had an Amt 68 Camaro that I got for my birthday in March of that same year (that's another story) ? however, I didn't build it before the 57. I painted the Belair Testors Sapphire blue met. with a white top and I used the flame decals. I have attempted to build a replica of it before but I took to many liberties and was never happy with it.. This time I plan on it being exactly the same as I originally built it using only the parts from the box. That's gonna be the challenge... ?

Hey man, this is a great Idea. I have built a few kits from my childhood to replicate the way I had them built. I'll definitely build one for this challenge. I'm in.

Any news of Revell do something this year !
disconovaman replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I always thought the tires fit the car well... The Centerlines were my favorite but the slots always made good 4X4 wheels for trucks other than the small problem of being 5 lug ? -

This is Fantastic News! Thank you for the information! -
I was scrolling my photos this morning and I had totally forgotten that I took photos of the club meet when I got the 56 so I'm posting here just to show all the kits that we had to choose from... some of these came home with me also...

Any news of Revell do something this year !
disconovaman replied to Mr mopar's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
To me the black kit is the best one but I'll settle for either ? Always liked these kits... I had actually heard a rumor that Atlantis had aquired the tooling for the kit but if Revell still has it then that's great news. I would love to see a new decal sheet and fresh boxart on this one. -
Wow! Those are fantastic, Keep on building and welcome to the model world!

Wow Bill! That looks fantastic buddy! Awesome example! I've wanted to build this for awhile, my idea was always to build it as "screen used" as in all the colors to be in black and white... I recently watched a documentary on the Munsters and I learned originally the show was gonna be filmed in color but with $10,000 per segment to shoot in color by 1964 standards CBS executives weren't willing to pay that for a new series. They didn't believe the show was gonna last as long as it did. Rob Zombie is set to direct the new movie. He's a huge fan of the original show.. I can't wait to see his spin on the old series.

I'm excited to see these kits return to production. I know it's been a few years since the Belair was released but the Nomad hasn't been out since maybe the late 80's early 90's? (that I can recall) Maybe the 56 Chevy tooling will turn up some day? I built the Nomad two times, both times leaving the cars unpainted (except for the details) I'm anxious to try my hand at the car upon its return to production. I can't wait to see what this generation feels about building these kits also. it will be cool to see some examples as well.

I'm impressed! That should be a resin or a 3D kit... I'd buy it!

I built all those opening door cars back in the day too. I agree the 56 seemed to be the best functioning of the Tri-5 series. I would like to try my hand at an fresh original 56 now. I haven't built any of those in years... this build up is the first one I've seen since the late 80s. I heard the Revell tools for the 57 hardtop have made its way to Atlantis. They are expected to announce it as an upcoming release. I hope the doors stay on with their's. I never had any luck with those hinge boxes with that kit.

So I'm back from the our local monthly clubmeet with some news. I was pretty surprised by one of the builds that showed up. Jimmy, one of our members built this tribute to my 56 before I stripped it. He used the current Revell 56 Delray. Anyways, I thought I'd share his with you all. I'm still in progress with my rebuild on the original.

Original Revell 56 Chevy on the Bench
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well I worked on the 56 here and there for twenty minutes at a time all week... wasn't able to finish or even get close. I did design some decals...made it to the club meet with my progress anyway... here's some stuff that showed up. The club challenge was any kit that we got from that pile of barn finds from last month's clubmeet. I named the car after a beer in case anyone was wondering. I got the idea years ago when I seen a soccer game where a guy ran across the field with no clothes on and no one could catch him ? Then I seen an ad for the beer and the idea was born. I was trying to think of an original name for a Gasser and this seemed to fit. I'll keep plugging away til I get it finished eventually... -
Original Revell 56 Chevy on the Bench
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks folks, I've been doing as much as time will allow. I built this 409 and painted the engine bay flat black... I'm gonna step it up next week though the clubmeet is coming up next Saturday wanna have it somewhat finished by then. -
1963 Chevy Nova Wagon Street Rod FINISHED 3/20/22
disconovaman replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great progress! I'm wanting to build this kit similar to yours. Now I'll know what parts to use when that time comes, thanks for the fine details. That engine looks like it belongs from the wagon kit. Fits great and It seems like a simple solution to an already simple kit. I've seen some progress posts elsewhere and it seem like some folks are overthinking the swap. I'll be watching for it to advance. -
Original Revell 56 Chevy on the Bench
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks, I used two stage Modelmaster's Pearl Yellow over Modelmaster's Dark Yellow base. It has some heavy flakes in the pearl and really looks scale for a model. I don't think it's in production anymore. It's from my old stock I've had for years. I'll be sad when it's gone... I painted this 57 with it too. -
Original Revell 56 Chevy on the Bench
disconovaman replied to disconovaman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I need a push to keep moving on this project so it doesn't stall out like so many of my started kits have. So thanks for the motivation to keep me going on this... Back for a small victory update. I got some Pearl Yellow on the old girl... I managed to keep the doors and trunk in tack, (as the amount of glue used on the hinge boxes was to much to worry with.) I had to paint it two separate times first the door jambs and under the trunk, then the outter body. I'm pleased with the outcome thus far... Next up... designing decals, foil work, interior, scratch build a straight axle etc...etc...etc... -
Each of these builds are as fantastic as the one before. The level of dedication and commitment you put forth far exceeds anything I've ever seen before. I have followed along with your workbench threads in pure Amazement as your skills are put to the test. You make it look easy and continue to inspire us with each build. Just when I think you can't possibly "One up" yourself you prove me wrong every time! ? I can't wait to see what you have in store for us next... "Sheriff, there's just one thing I wanna say. You must be part coon dog, 'cause I've been chased by the best of them, and son, you make 'em look like they're all runnin' in slow motion". ??? Do I see a Smokey & the Bandit fleet in your future... ???

I've decided to start a thread on this build. I picked it up last month at the local model clubmeet. It hadn't seen the light of day in over 40 years. I know some folks will cringe that I dismantled such a cool surviving kit. If I can relieve some anxiety for you all, I am a professional build-up restoration specialist ???... self proclaimed but still none the less ??? Here is where I'm at with the process Stripped all the paint and taking my time carefully disassembling the project. Spoiler alert... it's gonna be a Gasser!
