disconovaman replied to Justin Porter's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow! That's gotta be really rare! I did some digging myself and found a copy of the black and yellow 75 with a 76 grill on the parts tree... Must'a got changed mid run of the 75 to 76. -

Yes, the Nova SS Last of the breed sadly ended in 1976 and The Nova Rally appeared as the "Sport" option in 1977. I think some company should release an all new tooling of the 76 Nova Super Sport. Its makes since to me because it's historical in the fact that it was the last time Nova and SS appeared together on the same car. I've had 18 4th gen Novas, a few Super Sports and a two Nova Rallys. I laughed at your story Snake, because it's a perfect example that we do all share a common bond with the stories we tell. -
Upcoming MPC Reissues - '79 Nova and '73 Cougar

The Reality is it's not about the brand or styling more so than the stories told by people who owned them. Every person is individual and has their own experiences in life and weather it's a Smog Nova or a "Bronze Age" Mercury Cougar they all have their place in history. -
Here's another 69 Camaro from the Boxart series finished. It represents the first Revell 69 I built in 1991. I built this one because it was the dawning of a new era and this kit replaced the Monogram kit, for alot of builders I'd imagine. This is why I had the idea to recreate all those Monogram boxes in the first place. When Revell announced they had plans of releasing another version of the Classic Revell 69 Camaro. I had hoped they would offer a Street Machine option and maybe (with decals) a call back to some of those Monogram kits. Instead we got another stock option car (SS with new-ish parts). I still have hopes that someday they will design a boxart with cool graphics and custom wheels. Anyways, I'm dedicated to finishing the last two cars in the Monogram line as promised in the opening of the thread. I still have the Orange Z28 to finish and the 4X4 to build. Check back for updates as I'm jumping into action on those soon.

Upcoming MPC Reissues - '79 Nova and '73 Cougar

Thanks! yes my car was dealer ordered with the L-65 350 2-barrel carb. Air conditioning, it's all factory stock with 31X original miles. It doesn't get up compared to every other car I've owned but I appreciate it for what it is. 2 owner car, previously owned by a 100 year old delevery nurse who bought this car new as a retirement gift to herself at 63 in 76. She lived to be 102. -

Sorry, I can't help but flood the thread on the topic of Disco Novas but that's just me. This one is my current 76 nova. I snapped this pic over the summer when I stopped by the pizza place to pick up some late dinner. I thought the setting represented a period look. -

Not much difference between 75 and 76 other than the grills. I don't believe the tooling on the grill was changed just the boxart representing a 75 grill. I could be wrong but I've never seen the 75 grill from the kit. Maybe someone else can weigh in on this? -

I had heard years ago when Round II reissued the Squad Rod that the tooling would be used for future projects. I thought white styrene with colored glass in Coke style would've been the obvious choice... but this represents what they typically do. I just hope the dang thing isn't blue! I want to see it in white once again. -
The Straight Six Community Build Rides Again
disconovaman replied to Chuck Most's topic in Community Builds
The bait is out and I'm swimming towards the hook. ? I swear I could listen to Chuck all day, I love the way he writes! ? I've got a 51 Chevy that needs built. I'd like to build a tribute car my uncle had back in the 50's. I've heard stories about how they had it souped up. bigger pistons, head work, 3 2 barrels and a header. The car had a 3 speed in the floor but they reversed the linkage somehow so first and third were switched. It made it easier to speedshift the transmission. Don't ask me how though ? My grandfather was the town mechanic, he was born in 1906. He built the wildest stuff, from tractor parts and whatever he could think up. As the story goes he had a model A with three transmissions welded together it had 13 forward gears and 7 reverse. ? He had a 55 Chevy 4 door 210 with some big rig engin/trans in it. Once when a blizzard hit the town Granddad was called to pull a greyhound bus out of the ditch. He had chains and knobby tires on it, pulled the bus right out. He even made the newspaper with the story... so the story I've been told goes. ? He died in 71 before I was born, I would've like to have met him. -
I have this kit also and I'm planning it out now... Silver was one of my ideas for color choice... great minds ? I'm not sure what color it will be finally but I may use the decals from the Snap Firebird, they look pretty funky and may fit the vibe. The FBG's have weighed in and the consensus is that the kit is deemed un-buildable. You have proved them wrong my friend. ? The Boxart on the HOTROD series from 88 was more inspiring to me, something about the way it's angled and photgraphed. The kit has been reissued a few times in gunmetal grey, orange, and dark green. I wish the lime green graphics were included in this one like the ones in the Motorworks kit. I'm excited to get this one started. Thanks for the motivation!

2023 Cannonball Run "Run-What-You-Brung" Voting Poll
disconovaman replied to White Rabbit's topic in Community Builds
My New Year will be filled with model building. I have so many stalled projects and I determined to finish them next year. I currently have 15 kits under the Christmas tree too. It'll be a challenge not to dive into any of those. Congratulations to @Whosurdaddy209 for that Beautiful Vette and Cannonball Run Victory! Every build is an inspiration and is what the Cannonball Run represents... Keep on building so we can keep the Cannonball Run Dream alive. I'll see you at the next starting line! Watch out for two priests in a red Ferrari! ? -
He was a fill-in stuntman for the DOH because they had their own stunt team. No one could Ski a car like him. I seen the Charger you have posted in both pictures in Tennessee at the Dukesfest in 2005. The reason I know it's the same car is because only one stunt car was used to do this stunt throughout the entire series. It survived and is one of very few stunt cars that was leftover after the series ended left in General Lee livery. I have a photo of it in my photo album, it's still OK looking. It's GL#17 I think, very early car. The Dukes builders got the idea to document the cars in the beginning. The windshields were scribed with the letters and numbers WB (Warner Brothers) GL and the number they were built in. I'm a walking encyclopedia of useless DOH knowledge. ?

RADwood is a celebration of '80s and '90s automotive lifestyle. A car show that blends period correct dress with automotive Awesomeness. A period correct event for cars, trucks, and bikes from 1980-1999 that captures the essence of a bodacious era. A Car culture movement that has been gaining popularity for 6 or 7 years, the RADwood theme was created to pay tribute to an era of perhaps less important cars in an effort to keep the memories alive. ? Some examples are Honda Civic, Nissan Pulsar, Pontiac Fireo, PT Prowler, or any car customizing trends from the 80's or 90's such as Mini Trucks, Pro Street, Wild Graphics, and mono-chomatic paint. I seen this recently and thought Wow! this is a good representation of the early 90's. I call it the "Dare To Be Different" era.

Let's See Some Glue Bombs!
disconovaman replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Bathtub Buggy is about to enter its 3rd phase. I've Soaked the paint and dismantled it. It is missing parts sadly, like the shower rack and driver side light fixture mainly. The shower top and back part of the seat are major details to the kit. I don't have a plan for those parts yet... The chrome isn't good... that's another problem, it needs stripped and redone. It's not really gold nor chrome either. I'm not sure about colors for my version... but I was thinking about flocking the floor as some bathrooms from the 60's had carpet flooring. ? Gross! ? Pink, Peach, or mint green? or neutral colors (modern style) to bring it to the future? Idk? -
Funny story about that... whenever I've bought a car, the running joke is the seller saying "I wouldn't be afraid to drive from here to California" (I've lived in VA. my whole life) So my point is if you have a reliable car, and a little faith in the highway system well then I guess anything's possible ? I'd be more nervous about the other idiots besides myself on the road than my 78 Camaro not holding up to the task. ? I trekked home 320 miles from North Carolina over 2 mountains in a 76 Nova that basically sat in a garage for 40 years. Granted that's not the road trip in question but I think it could've made it? Also, I road tripped an 06 Vette to Tampa Bay 1,300 miles one way, traded swap even for a 70 SS 454 Monte Carlo and drove it back. Not without failures though I'm afraid. Seperated tires, charging system failed and about $600 wasted in fuel. It was definitely an experience I won't forget!

Ollie's strike again
disconovaman replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Also the manager was holding stuff back at our local store. This other friend of mine was there on Black Friday he said he could see a bunch of Round II boxes in the back but when he asked, the employee said they didn't have room on the shelf for everything. The Classic Cruisers stuff was also back there and I happened to see that a few days later and asked to buy it. The manager would only sell me limited kits. -

Yeah it's gonna be crazy in the toy section... he is supposed to send me pictures of what they have but I don't know if he'll have a chance to take any with how busy it will be. -

I didn't go to the 6 to 10 sale at our local Ollie's but a friend of mine is there... said they closed the store today until 6 pm. He said he's waiting outside in a long line for them to open. -

You can pick up the newest version at Hobby Lobby. I'm doubtful it will ever make it to Ollie's. Also the box art on the Firebird HotRod series from the 80's was pretty inspiring... I plan on kit bashing it with the snap together kit. I got from Wal-mart. -
Ideally there will be multiple suggestions based on the most intrest formed in a poll and then we'll vote. The theme with the most votes is our upcoming CBR theme. In the past the moderator has chosen the theme on occasion. It just depends on how much input the thread has. If anyone has any suggestions post away.

Same here, we couldn't afford anything new. I didn't want anything new anyway. All I liked was stuff from the mid 50's to the late 70's. Newest car I had was a 1981 Citation, bought it in 87 for $300 because it needed rotors and brakes. I bought it because it was cheap and it had a 4 speed manual.? I fixed it, drove it til 89 when I ran it off the road Hellraising, bent the struts. sold it for 100 bucks.

The conversation will raise the question do we build for the decade's fashion in car culture or build only model years ranging from 1980-1999? Which is what the true Radwood theme embodies. One could argue that the style of cars built in the 80's and 90's is just a movement. I seen lots of 50's, 60's, and 70's cars built during that time with the "Rad" flare mentioned by @Pat Minarick but this would have to exclude any cars outside of the Radwood era. I think that's why Pat, the pictures you've seen are just stock CRXs and Nissan Pulsars from the 80's. I think it's a great challenge honestly, it would be cool to see what we could do with those decades Fer Sher Dude! ?

Thanks... yes it's in really good condition... I bought it from an estate sale, owned by a lady who turned 100 the year I bought it. She lived to be 103. She bought it brand new at 63 in 1976 and only put 26,000 miles on it in 37 years. The car is a true survivor. I'm happy to own it. It was ordered for her by the salesman and he checked the L65 350 two barrel option. The car also has the turbo 350 transmission and Cold AC. She traded a 66 Caprice in on it. It's a time capsule really.

1976 Nova Hatchback 30X original miles. Here's the model I built of it and the Matchbox I painted to match it.
