"Bring Out Your Dead" Completion Build--ROUND 2 Is On!
disconovaman replied to Snake45's topic in WIP: Model Cars
"Killing it Gene!" The Chevelle is 99.9% finished... well, as much as I want the build to be... My vision was always to finish the car the way I built the original one back in 1988, (minus my little cousin's fingerprint right in the middle of the roof... lol!) As I had stated before it is a replica of a 69 Chevelle, this guy in my town named Steve Fitzgerald owned. Like many street machines of the day it evolved over the years... But I built this way it was when I built the first kit. It was a Big block from the factory but he burnt a piston and replaced it with a 350 small block. It also had satin Centerlines on it which he later swapped for polished Centerlines around 91-92 (pretty much the last time I seen the car). I'd like to know where the car went now that I've been reminiscing about it. It was a show stopper... It had white interior 4 speed, deep sounding exhaust (before flowmasters) so, not sure what mufflers... We'd park in town and hang out and watch everyone cruise around. Good times! I like doing these kinds of builds because it allows me to provoke old memories of my younger days. As I'm working on this kit I'm thinking of the real car and the model I built of it back then too. Very inspiring I must say. Now on to finishing up the chopped Ford. I'm in the middle of packing for the move and doing small repairs to this house.. all while refinishing old furniture... (my new hobby) but I'll make time to get it whipped! lol thanks agian for this thread, it really does work! -

Thanks, those are purple lace decals wrapped on the top and hood stripes... the decals are very flexible and easy to wrap... -

I am too... my only complaint is (and this isn't about the product) but I wish I could use the clear decal sheet on dark colors but I'd have to get a printer that prints white, gold or silver. I beleive decals that come in kits have a two part printing process, one printer for the white and another for the designs. I could be wrong but the backs usually have a thin white layer of ink... -

Sure is, I designed it and printed with my printer and water slide decal sheet from a company called Blinggasm... stuff works great! My son's name is Jay so I named the company after him lol... -

Working steady on both of my entrys... I had a few set backs on the truck and that will effect the finished product but oh well. I'll have to keep goin, no time to backtrack now... here is some progress... -

I built this kit to represent what my boxart design would look like. So now it has it's own Box top to match the car... I appreciate all the positivity, thanks again...

Always good to see what other builder's vision is for this kit. This one is done in great fashion... The custom parts set it aside from all the rest and the yellow traction bars are a nice detail.

Spectacular Craftsmanship!

The black rubber seal around the windshield gives it a more symmetrical look. Also I wanted a pinstripe around the panel stripes on the hood so I masked off those and painted a purplish pink stripe... off to the races! I did take some time out to print some decals for the Bad man 57 build to make it more personal... I know I said I was gonna focus on the Dead Builds but that's it, all I'm gonna do til I get these two done. -

Wow! Counting down the days agian... So with the Revell Camaro out of my system... momentarily, I am dedicating the month to finishing the Chevelle and My Barbecue Chopped f-100. If y'all see me posting on here with anything else call me out! lol... -
That's the greatest compliment... Danbury mint did a General lee and I had mine built, The Direct TV dude seen it and said his dad had that diecast, I said mine is the Revell plastic model kit...he was empressed.

Exactly my thoughts but I was blinded by seeing the mess and knowing what it could be... everyone in our local club agrees that I should've left it alone aside from wheels and tires and a good cleaning. And the quarter panels were a serious undertaking as they were swiped from a Monogram 24th scale camaro. You must weigh the options when you find a buildup and deside what's the right decision. I just didn't take long enough to think it over... The day after I got it I had the heating and air guy at my house, he seen it sitting on my bench and asked "did you build that"!? "Ugh, No I'm better than that at modeling" I said. It kinda embarrassed me. Now he probably thinks I'm a horrible builder. I couldn't help think what the next guy would think about it. I had to make it nice... And the devil on my right shoulder said Rebuild it! lol The fact is I have 10 virgin Revell Camaros on the shelf but I wanted to fix this one, Do I have a problem? lol...

Seriously folks, Thanks for the comments. I appreciate the positivity... I sprayed the Charcoal Grey and applyied the decals from 3 Revell 69 Nova's... Then I sprayed Blue Galaxy pearl clear over it, which gave it a purple, blue, green haze... I'm working on 3 more to rescue now from the pile...the General appeared to be restored once before so I'm bringing that it back to it's DOH glory. Also I'm working on a BADMAN tribute 57 it was painted blue black and green, I've stripped all those layers off. and gave it the Steven Brown treatment He's an artist from the UK, that's why it's RHD... Look for those in the Under Glass section in the future. Thanks agian for looking an the appreciation...

There was about 40 build ups in a large tote and my buddy asked if I was interested in them because he knows I like model I said yeah... he brought them to me. I didn't have a clue what I was gettin but I was excited anyway. All I know is that the tote was in a pile of stuff (Possibly from his neighbor?) to go to the dump and my buddy opened it up and thought of me. that's the story... Nothing in there past 1995 or before 1985-1988 nothing that wasn't heavily painted and glued over except the Dale Jarret #88 Daytona 500 winner NASCAR. Thanks for the Nice comments to everyone! It's nice to have the valadition.

I Rescued this Built-up bomb from the Land fill last month and with some intensive care I was able to save it. You've all heard the stories of where a guy would build a kit, light it on fire, and roll it down a hill... well this Camaro was a Stop-action version of those stories, complete with Flames! It was a labor of love and as the build progressed, I fell in love with it. I hope I did the car some justice. It was rough but I did the best I could given the condition... thanks for looking...

I love Glue bombs! and this one is definitely worth the Save!

I really like the tourqe thrusts... but now I'm thinking the bare steel rallys would look cool too.maybe with some white letter tires. Working on the interior and polishing the body on my own box art car. I plan on making the cover and printing the artwork when I get the car built...

BIGFOOT 1 & 2

Great work So far... I built this for my brother a few years ago and was able to tilt the front fairly simple... -
I thought I'd give a quick tip while I'm thinking about it. Tired of the boring white or black stripes that come with the kit? Well have I got a good tip for you... Tamyia Clear red or yellow... over White stripe decals... (yellow will make the stripes appear gold) Make sure you go kinda light until you get the desired color and when applying the Decal you may have to 'flake" the excess off... #1 cut the decal sheet close to the decal. #2 allow the decals to loosen up completely in hot water perhaps to almost become floaters... #3 They will be stiffer than normal, so use the decal paper to remove from water. #4 Next, dry the decal off, this is so you can flake any of the paint left behind on the edges. #5 add water and apply to the car using a damp papertowel. It's not to difficult to do, try it out on a test subject first if you're nervous about the result. Thanks, feel free to post pics here of your finished painted decals...
