  1. Nor would I, they look like they are welded on. Makes sense though, when the exhaust pressure gets high enough, they open, if less pressure, I guess the exhaust uses the holes.
  2. I think I have everything i need, but will be finishing up another WIP before I start in on this one. The dump body will be the Montone from the A-car dump kit and I 'll probably use the A-car chassis. Most likely it'll be a 361.
  3. Thanks for all the kind comments.
  4. I'm back on this build and while looking for some other details, I noticed the stacks. As seen below, they are "capped" and the tops appear welded on, ie, not removable. Each side looks to have 4 holes (about 3/4-1") front to back in the caps. This would seriously reduce the outlet surface area and I imagine would create some serious backpressure. I admit I'm not up to date with the custom truck world but it seems to me this isn't going to be driven much. If anyone knows about this, please chime in as I'm curious to know the background info. As far as modeling it, not a big deal. Stacks are cut and caps on, I need to smooth things out, drill the holes and add the chrome. I already did one pair but they ended up too short.
  5. I'm in but haven't decided what to do yet. Last year's entry got hung up (still not finished) waiting for parts etc so I'm looking for a project that I have everything in stock (or know I can get quickly). Hoping to decide in a few days.
  6. AMT Kenworth kit, Tank from Keystone with tank fittings from Moluminum. I had robbed the sleeper from this kit for a previous project so I was looking for something different with a day cab. The KW had the longest frame of the kits I have so it seemed like a win. The rear extension for the ICC bar was from scratch. I made my own decals patterned after the real one.
  7. I hope Doug keeps the AITM line in resin. I have worked with 3D printed items and I much prefer resin, the surfaces are smoother and much easier to cut, file and sand whether to modify or just clean up.
  8. Looks good, I did a decent job with the old kit many years ago but it was a simple paint job, all white! I have a couple of the new kits waiting for their turn on the bench. From what I have seen, the new kits are several steps above the old ones. Doesn't mean they are any more resistant to my botched paint attempts......LOL!
  9. Just saw an announcement on FB, Dave at AITM is passing the torch. As of Jan 15, 2022, AITM will be closing and at some point after that, products will be under the Keystone banner with Doug Wagner.
  10. Would love to find this in 1/25!
  11. Looks great, one little nit, you need to angle the plow toward the curb. I've always enjoyed mixing and matching bodies with different cab/chassis as it opens up almost unlimited possible combinations. It takes some more work and planning but I've always found the results worth the effort.
  12. Looks great, how did you do the finish on the dump body?
  13. Very well done, as others have said, you're weathering is top notch!
  14. If you can't cast many or don't have the desire you might try reaching out to Dave at AITM. IIRC, Charles did the master for the Loadstar and Dave is casting/selling.
  15. I did mine years ago, used the Autocar A64B and the older nose conversion from AITM: https://pbase.com/baywing/image/164880926
  16. This is the truck I've been looking to do, IIRC 1975 A-Car but it has a narrow hood more like a narrow nose Pete and the grill is something you don't often see on Autocars but seems to have been popular. Louvers for sure but horizontal: https://pbase.com/baywing/image/171753949
  17. I'm interested to see how you're going to do the radiator. I've got a build in mind that uses the same nose as your project.
  18. When I did mine, I found that short hood is really short! Good luck, looks interesting.
  19. Looking forward to following, I have that kit in the stash. Might do mine with a Holmes on the back, similar to Jamie Davis.
  20. End of month update, the cab is well on it's way, tinted windows are in as well as the interior. I got the window material from my eye doctor, those cheap dark glass they give you when they dilate your eyes. Still need the cab details but will probably wait until the cab is on the chassis. Chassis is well along, need a couple of little things before the cab goes on. Bumper got painted, tomorrow it'll get it's gloss coat then it goes on the chassis. Rear fenders still need to get fabbed and I have to figure out the straight stacks but it's getting closer.
