  1. Ken , a quick bath in Castrol Super Clean will make the chrome disappear and it doesn’t harm plastic at all , you can leave parts in it for days with out any ill effects! As an adult I shake my head at all the bling but when I built this kit as kid I was thrilled with all the bling.
  2. Of all the great builders on this forum I find you give me the most new ideas for projects! Although I am not sure I need any more ideas?! Another great build!
  3. Following this , haven’t done a current ( was going to say Winston) Cup car ! Great looking build!
  4. In 1973 , on all B and C body Mopar , Chrysler went to an isolated K frame, which included a redesign of front sheet metal front aprons, it also added an extra cross member behind what was originally the torsion bar crossmember, thus if you want to correctly do a replica stock 73 and up Mopar you have some scratch building to do ! The front suspension from the 73-74 Charger/Road Runner is however the same as the 75 and up Cars although the aprons do change along the way, in 75 they started using a separate wheel tub much like the larger C body. As a side note B body 8 3/4 use ended in 73 , and continued in 74 with both E and C body . 75 was 9 1/4 for all heavy duty use in Mopar car and light duty truck .
  5. I am so impressed with the rivit detail on the cab as well as the conversion to a set back front axel, following these two builds close , great job gentlemen! I have had thoughts of doing one for years but not a lot of reference material till nowadays!
  6. Great looking build, the only change I would make is the wedge brake chambers and swap to cam brakes but I like where this build is going!!
  7. I was always curious about the story of Petty Blue and looking at pictures of the early Petty Engineering cars ( before Petty Enterprises) I couldn’t figure out where the Indigo Blue part of the equation came from until I looked closely at some pictures and realized they used a dark blue drop shadow on the car numbers!
  8. I would grab a second kit and do the pickup!
  9. Doing the Petty hauler you will need an NTC 350 from any of the AMT kits !
  10. Some how I forgot to type ( nice set of valve covers)!
  11. It did have a nice set of Dodge on it , and with a little creative fudging the Chevy is easily turned into a Dodge, one need only to look online for pictures to see what you need to move around, dimensionally they weren’t to far off of each other!
  12. I thought it looked short, which means it is designed for the earlier KW cab, pre 63 small window. If one want to back date the AMT kit coffin box remove the moulded in panel line and upper door handle, move the vent panels to the front of the doors and add the ribs to the back panel . Two ways to do it either pirate the ribs off of a Mercury box or get evergreen styrene strips and add them in .
  13. Actually Petty blue never changed but Chrysler Basin Street Blue is the factory name given , any auto body supplies shop could mix up a spray can or a pint of base !
  14. Whitewalls are easy depending on what tire , use white acrylic paint ( do not use enamel paint it will never dry), and either a steady hand or a paint mask! Some 1/16 car kits have whitewalls that might work for a 1/25 truck tire.
  15. I’ve had the opportunity to pick up the Monogram garbage truck kits in the past , not anymore! Fabulous build!
  16. An inexpensive source for antenna material is mig welding wire , smaller diameter the better , you can buy small spools for a good price or if you know someone who uses a mig machine , you can get them to save you the end of role wire that is left in the liner at spool change!
  17. Platicoat is also a good choice! I have used Duplicolor and both are good to work with and bang for your buck you can’t beat them! I like hobby stuff but the cost is silly when you look at what it is , spray paint!
  18. Glad to see these pictures, it shows a lot of interesting details of the interior of one of my favourite trucks! Thank you!!
  19. That’s a pretty 352H! I need to stop looking at this forum page , I have way too many projects started!
  20. I would like to build this one as pictured!
  21. Without a doubt this is the most interesting and best interpretation of this kit I’ve seen, I now want to pick up one of these!
  22. Hey Brian, I was looking at my old Mack literature last night and you know it’s funny how I have looked at it before many times and I never noticed the bumper sticking out on the drawing showing dimensions, I hate putting out wrong information about stuff! Definitely the same body on both trucks, and definitely not the same chassis. Going to be a great build no matter!
  23. Always great to learn new stuff and yes to keep it simple I agree that keeping the chassis out of the DM is a good idea, can hardly wait to see what you do with this one!! Looks great so far.
  24. As is always the case I look forward to seeing your progress on this project. I would like to share that the U series Mack is a combination of the R chassis with the DM cab and a unique hood , although it looks the same as the DM it is shorter. BBC of the U is 90in and DM is 101in. As a side note the cab shells were changed slightly in around 73. Back wall was deeper and more rounded ( compare the DM kit and AMT R kit cabs) and the dash was changed up.
  25. Prayers to you and your family ! This hobby is great therapy for the toughest of times. Your build is looking great!
