  1. I made the Aluminum Fuel Cell in my Plymouth out of a Pepsi can, I had to cut it down from what I originally wanted to get it to fit between the hinges. I am not sorry I hinged the trunk, but I may in the future try to bend the hinges to be "tighter" so that I do not restrict the trunk space. I did not think it through all the way and by the time I started filling the trunk, I decided to work around the hinge issue instead of attempting to redesign the hinges. In the end it turned out just fine.
  2. So, where did you get them? What scale are they?
  3. After paint would be hard to do. And I found that the hinges I made restricted the placement of stuff in the trunk. It is still cool stuff you have there. You could always display it beside the car, as if it is getting ready to be loaded.
  4. I got the suspension done. I added some leafs to the rear springs to add some ride height. I did not want to use lift blocks, so more springs seemed like the right answer and it is supposed to be a G30 anyway. I also relocated the rear shackles and added to them so the springs sit in the chassis level. Some wheel backs from the parts box and it is sitting on it own feet. Steering linkage, motor mounts, transfer case and drive shafts will be next. Oh, and paint and install the front hubs.
  5. It is funny what trips people triggers. For some this is a Holy Grail kit, more me if I found it in a LHS or flee market I would not even look at it unless it was real cheap. Now, an ERTL Transtar II 4070, I would wet my pants. We all have different interests, keeps it interesting.
  6. I love the collection of stuff. Looking great. I hope you opened the trunk so we can all see it in there.
  7. So with TAT 2018 did anyone else finish a truck? I got mine done early in the year and it seems like the TAT died. There was no post for judging, nothing. Did anyone else do a TAT truck? If anyone else finished a truck I would love to see it. This was mine:
  8. I also started the front end conversion to 4x4. I had to make some custom leaf springs and shackles. I also had to cut off the old stuff and make some new mounts. One side is done, or at least mocked up. I will trim the "Bolts" to the right length when I do the final install. Sorry the picture is not great, cell phone. It will get a little cleaning up also, still in rough form.
  9. Well, I have made a little progress on my entry. I wanted a High roof, as I am going to build this as the "Ultimate Adventure" cannonballer. Basicly a camper version of the Gas Monkey van above. (I had never seen the GM Van though) So, I took the high roof/space cab from a MAN F2000 truck (Italeri) and made it work. I had to glue it all together, cut about an inch from the center to narrow it, then cut it again and add 3in to the middle to make it long enough. I used the factory van roof cut out to fill in the top so it is (or will be) smooth. It will be getting some long narrow windows in the side and a sunroof in the top. Anyway, its a start. Lots of filling and sanding to do yet.
  10. Cool, I have been using MEK as a thin solvent glue for a while now and I love it. It should work on this too I would think. I will get some and pay with it. For the cost, it is low risk. What it comes down to is I can get a 48x96in sheet for the cost of a few 6x12in pieces from my LHS cost. And I use "Local" loosely, they are over an hour away.
  11. I have been doing more scratch building and I found a local vendor that has 2 sheets of HIPS that he will sell me very reasonably priced. Far Far less than buying it from the LHS or any online vendor. Other than maybe being slightly more brittle this should work just fine right?
  12. This is kind of the direction I was planning. I have been gathering parts for a few months. With the narrow theme and limited kit offerings, I think we may have a few similar entries.
  13. COOL, I like it. I bet the recoil on that gun would just about stop that car in its tracks. But cool anyway, reality is so boring.
  14. On your 64 Dodge, the chassis of most 4x4 trucks are close enough that you could steal the chassis from a Chevy 4x4 (Like the Deserter) and put it under the Dodge, as long as the Diffs are on the correct side and you use the right running gear, you will be the only one to know. AS for the topic, I like a nice detailed chassis and engine, but I have done 2 Ghost Busters Caddy's and had a great time with them. No engine and a promo slab chassis, made one a GB car and the other an Ambulance. So if I like the subject it does not matter.
  15. Looking great. Where did you get the rear tires? I like the military tread and it is very close to the original picture.
  16. So, the chassis is almost done and I have the engine mounts done for now. I may redo the front mount, but it allows me to hang the engine in place as is. The way I have it the engine can be dropped out as a unit for servicing and it would slide out from under the truck on a dolly. This way if they had engine issues, they could swap the engine out for a Rebuilt and be back on the road in just a few hours and the "Power Unit" could be refurbished. As for the body, I have an old cab taped to the front just to get an idea of where I am going. This cab WILL NOT be used, I am making my own. It will be larger and have a sleeper either in the bottom, or the top. The sides will be smoothed out by covering it with sheet, the bottom will have grooved sheet that will get covered in Chrome. It will also have skirts front to back with an engine panel on each side.
  17. For me its part hobby, part sanity check for my work. I work from home and sit at my desk/hobby desk. I answer phone call and provide technical support for high tech industrial equipment. I am often sitting for periods of time. This give me something to do so I don't go crazy. I also have severe arthritis in my hands a wrist. This helps me to keep my joints moving and working. So, in a round about way, I get paid to do this.
  18. Looking good. I like what you have done with it. I just got an old one in a box of parts. I plan to redo it and weather it up nicely too.
  19. I say lets do it. Can I enter with my Fageol Truck, I just started it a couple of days ago. Its a complete scratch build.
  20. Here is a sale brochure that I found describing that the beast I am making is from a Fruehauf Trailer. The original had a swinging front axle, the whole thing turned including the bumper. The next generation had 4 axles and was more like what I am building. I am building something like the second picture, just with a few updates as though it was a few years down the line and modernized a bit.
  21. While I have my idea pretty well nailed down, I was thinking, would something like these work? They are truck based, cargo and passenger in one common area and called a "moving Van". I am doing one for another build, just thinking.
  22. Great details, I love the dents, mis-matched door, the wire hanging out of the missing headlight. Very well done.
  23. Only question is, if the passenger area and the "cargo" area are together, no divider or could you remove the divider? I would love to see you do something with it, as it is that thing is about as ugly as they come.
  24. I love it, it looks great. The details are fantastic and the weathering is spot on. Great job.
  25. So, I was inspired to do this build by a post from someone about the Road King truck. I have done a bunch of research and found that the truck he posted was a Fageol Cargoliner. The company built many integrated type trucks over the years and many were used as moving trucks or deliver trucks. Most were shorter than the one posted. So I wanted to build one on the same idea as the long one, about a 40 foot cargo area with cab being extra. I wanted to build the truck they never did. 40 foot of cargo, cab with a sleeper, 4 axles and only one engine. Fageol was famous for using 2 engines. I started with a Fruehauf trailer, this is the one they build the originals off of. A NHC-250 from a W-F SD/DD kit and some frame rails from an extended trailer. I converted the engine from a NHC to a NHH-220. The engine will lay on its side under the frame just in front of the rear wheels. I spent a long time looking for pictures of a NHH-220, but found few. I used pictures of other engines to make the changes to this one. I used the frame from the extendable trailer to make a frame that has a raised area for the engine. It needed to be thicker than the standard truck frame to get the required distance between the wheels and the bottom of the cargo box.
