  2. I'm always happy to share any little thing I know about modeling with others, but here's the problem with woodgraining - you can't just TELL somebody how to do it. You have to SHOW them. I can say that wood is not brown. Wood is yellow with various other colors in the grain. Start by painting the piece yellow or light tan. After this base color has dried, randomly brush in the grain patterns using light browns, redish-browns, etc. etc. If you have older issues of Scale Auto, look for issue # 104 ( I THINK) Tim Powers did an article on how he does woodgraining. I taught Irv Arter how to do it and he has a FOTKI album on woodgraining. He doesn't explain it with words but the pictures may help. http://public.fotki.com/IrvinArterJr/irvin...agon/page3.html
  3. As a child I scratchbuilt an artillary cannon model and was extremely honored to be invited to the Whitehouse to present it to President Lincoln. As I was leaving, I heard Mary Todd Lincoln say "Christ! Would it kill you to take me to the theater just once?"
  4. Just 3 kits - turned one into a more accurate sedan delivery body for Norm. I'll probably buy 3 more tomorrow from Ron Bradley. Since '96, I've had at least 40-45 of these Revell deuce kits. This is the 21st. build and many kits have been used for parts on other rods.
  5. I'm a pleasent pheasent feather plucker.
  6. The new reissue. It was released about 3-4 weeks ago. I'm not at home, so I can't look at the box. Just check the Revell web site.
  7. The pulley/fanbelt assy. is the plain ol' plastic piece from the kit.
  8. UBER-COOL? Don't confuse an old guy. I'm still adjusting to young guys telling me my models are "sick" and they actually mean that they like them!
  9. Using the corrected Ardun from the reissued Revell '50 Ford pickup. Cut apart 3 Strombergs from an AMT '36 Ford kit. Stacks are polished aluminum tubing. Over the frame headers will be from the Phanotm Vickie kit. Still have to add the carb linkages. Chopped this one. The paint is Duplicolor GM Slate Grey. It AIN'T a rat rod 'cause it's shiney! (Still not polished out yet.) Wheels & caps from the Revell '50 Ford. Trim rings are Bare Metal Foil. Tires are from The Modelhaus. I usually don't go too long without woodgraing something. That's all for now.
  10. VERY nicely done. I like it!
  11. Well, if we're going to dig up 6 month old posts, here's a very recent photo of Randy's Pontiac. I love this model!
  12. What you need is The Model Car Garage photoetch set (SKU 2091) for the Revell '32 Ford. It provides hood handles, radiator cap, emblems, door locks, etc. etc.
  13. I know the guy very well,,,,,,,,it would be me. Don't have any other pics right now, but ask all the question ya want.
  14. Very unique and innovative way to build a Merc. Super job!
  15. I believe these will be resin kits from Harold
  16. I think your model is closer to this car's color. The model body is beautiful. Saw it today with my very own old eyes!
  17. A bunch more stuff at the link: http://public.fotki.com/mamaprez/model-clu...eeting-1192008/
  18. '68 - '72 Novas were the same except for minor trim changes, tailights, etc. '73 & '74 Novas look SIMILAR but they are actually different in almost all dimensions. '75 - on, they were quite different.
  19. WOW. Finish this thing! It looks great so far.
  20. From what I can see, your Merc looks great but, please, resize your photographes to 640 X 480. They are currently WAY too big to fit on a montior sceen.
  21. It definately is a VERY VERY tight fit. I assumed it would be easier without the firewall in place.
  22. COKE! No Pepsi.
  23. ALL of my Revell '32 Fords (except the first one in 1996) have an MCG photoetched grille. Can't imagine building one without the grille. They look very toy-like with the plastic grille. Wheels and tires are in the kit. I painted the whitewalls
  24. Like I said before, this was a quick build just to see how everything went together. Of course, I had to throw in a different engine so it wouldn't look like every other '32 sedan being built from the box. I like the paint, but the camera picks up every flake in the paint - your eyes just see metallic blue. Couple of building tips: 1 - If you choose to use the cowl lights, there simply is not enough surface area on the tiny stalks for even the strongest CA glue to hold them in place. . I carefully removed the stalks and drilled very small holes in the light buckets and the cowl and mounted them with a thin wire. 2 - I found that if you glue the firewall in place, early in the build, before painting, it is ALMOST impossible to put the assembled interior into the body later. I always do this on the roadsters and coupes (This is my 20th completed Revell '32), but on the sedan, it is better to install the completed interior, then carefully glue in the firewall. Well, back to the other projects I had going on.
  25. THERE'S NO "E" IN CAMARO! I've spent 41 years trying to pound this into peoples' heads. Now I guess I have to drive to Ohio and smack you, boy!
