Where to begin... Well, when I saw the movie Tommy Boy, I fell in love with the GTX. I cringed when they destroyed it in the movie. From the moment in the gas station to when they hit the deer. UGH! I saw this kit at Ollies for 8 beans so I bought 2 of them. My plan was to make a Tommy Boy car ans the other would be a S&M car. First thing I did was cut off the top. I've never built a convertible car before so I was in unchartered waters. After removal, I ground down the excess plastic level with the rear window opening and then went to the front window and started grinding away. As I built the car, I couldn't believe how many pieces were omitted. I know it's a race car but c'mon. The kit had a lot of flash. I've never had to deal with it this much before. The boot was made with a piece of sheet styrene cut down to fit covered with some vinyl I picked up at the fabric store. The heater hoses were made with a busted pair of ear buds. Everything else was pretty much box stock. I added the wipers and battery from my parts bin. Thanks for looking

'56 Chevy Truck

Thanks guys! The wheels are from a 1/25 scale remote control car from amazon. I got tired of seeing the same old Pegasus wheels on everything. Not that they aren't cool looking, it's just that there isn't much to choose from and everyone uses them. I wanted something a little different. Glad you like them. As for the suspension, I kinda cheated. I drilled a hole in the frame and shortened the axle and made them one. As for the front, I used the upper and lower A arms from the R/C car. Basically I just sandwiched them onto the frame with a little bit of square tubing inbetween. Unfortunately, since the wheels are so big, this leaves little room for steering. All 4 wheels will roll, just won't steer. The engine is a super tight fit because of the headers. I could swap them out but I like them too much the change them. I used old pill bottles for the tubs. This is needed in order for the big wheels to be functional. I'll be using a tonneau cover for the bed cover. For all of this to work in harmony, I had to remove the inner fenders. I don't particularly liked the open engine compartment as it looks like a nascar. I may address this a little later. We will see. You can see the seats I'll be using. They were molded in blue so I had to give them a splash of white before they get the final red color. Stay tuned... -

Added a splash of Wally World flat white. I see that there is more work needed on the hood and above the drivers window. Freshened up the motor. changed out the blower for dual carbs and swapped the valve covers. Also hard to tell but the interior will be red. The 80's style seats had to go. I will be using a set of '69 Z-28's Stay Tuned... -
Thanks Bob. DupliColor Perfect Match is the brand. It's GM's blue. I don't know the name. The label is on the lid and I used the lid as a prop while painting and the overspray covered it up. Got the engine bay dressed up. I used a busted pair of ear buds for the heater hoses. Interior was pretty straight forward. Not too much detail. Glossy black everywhere -brightened up the gauges, window cranks, ashtrays and wheel. Should be just one ore day on the bench. I got a little overzealous with the floor wax and had to strip and redo the hood. I got a plan for the boot and it wont take too long. Stay Tuned...

Got the body painted up today, foiled the rocker trim and used one of those Wally World $3 paint pens around the windshield Painted up the grille and inserted the headlights Then painted the white letters on the tires. It's a little messy I know but I'm not really sure of the best way of going about it other than just jumping in with a 0000 brush. Just for kicks I wanted to see what the grille and hood looked like in place. Stay Tuned...

Nice 'Cuda. My favorite year. Those wheels look great. If the car is still in your possession, please post pics of the engine and interior.
