  1. While all hell was breaking loose in Azerbaijan - unbeknownst to me - I’ve started to rivet the monocoque. Some of the riveting must be done before the bulkheads are attached. using Archer’s rivets and some from Micro Mark to surround the fuel bag openings …
  2. Pain in the as Department: Why not put an 8 track into the slot? Then we can all vote for which one …
  3. We have “Florida man”. you’ve got a devil ... push ...
  4. Never mind the paint question - studied your posts again question answered ...
  5. One last thing - Gary’s kits included some unique choices - I plan to build his Pugeot Indy car - the 3 litre car with the tapered tail - beautiful car - was on display at Amelia 3 yrs ago ...
  6. Alrighty then - you’re in Australia - I think - I’m in Miami - I think - and the kit maker is the late Gary Doucette - who lived in Toronto! ... The scale is 1/25. I’ve started to mess around with my kit but haven’t really gotten much farther than you see here - I met Gary a large number of moons ago - nice fellow - not a great caster - but he studied his subjects very carefully and always made an effort to make an accurate kit - the masters were purchased by someone - another nice fellow - who casts and sells on EBay - I know that Gary would have loved this build - and by the way - looks like you nailed the color- whose paints did you use ???
  7. Well - I think I can solve this mystery ...
  8. Thanks for the post. One quick question - why would ANYONE move AWAY fr Vermont ???
  9. Model kit archeology ...
  10. Oh. This will be SO confusing - I just love confusion ...
  11. The alternator sits down low next to the sump - it’s arrangement was carried forward to the Lotus 34 and 38 engines - made from a short length of .150 copper - not sure about the finish - was probably anodized blue or gold - mite leave it copper - looks nice - some bling for Judges [oops] ...
  12. The famous 29 roll bar - Dan Gurney: Colin - you’ve fixed the roll bar to the cylinder heads - what happens if I crash and the engine mounts fail ? Chapman: Dan - you and Jimmy are the best drivers at Indy - don’t worry - I know you won’t crash - it’s about now that Gurney decides he’s going to found All American Racers and build his own Indy cars.
  13. The transistor for the ignition system sits up on the left leg of the roll bar - the kit part is usable but needs some love - the fins need some definition - but using this part saves a little time needed to replace other engine accessories...
  14. There is a small tank at the front of the engine that directs water exiting the block on its way back to the radiator. The AMT kit piece is - well - not So great - but it surrendered its cap for my part - made from short lengths of evergreeen and sm diameter plastic tube ...
  15. Ok. Ok. I know that this does not appear to be much progress for 2 weeks - but Rome was not dismantled in a day ...
  16. I swear Every time I go to a wrecking yard I’m looking for a Bugatti - haven’t found one yet ...
  17. I really need to get out more often ... I tend not to open the drag section - so I had some serious catching up to do ... nice way to spend the pandemic! And as I have one kid in Western Canada - I know that your restrictions have lasted longer than ours ... you may know this - not sure- most of Angie Hiscano’s contest building was done before he got his Sherline. After his retirement from Orange Blossom he really fell for machining - he became a Sherline rep [pre-internet] - and just started machining away. Actually, there is another part to that story... that involves the fellow that founded the line of scale Hardware that you are using - such as the rivets ... I’m going to explore that and get back to the thread after the holiday. In the meantime: GREAT STUFF. and you can’t take this to the GSL. - we’re gonna keep the borders closed for two more years !
  18. Augie was a two time winner of the GSL and the acknowledged king of the Hot Rod modelers - and a friend. Passed away - well no - actually died rather suddenly/no warning - about 12 years ago ... He often built engines - many different kinds - just for display. Kept them in a display at Orange Blossom Hobbies - he was the manager of the train dept there - for many years I used to stop by Orange Blossom and just stand there and stare at those engines - before or after I bought whatever it was that I was buying ... sometimes before and after ... staff there must have thought there was something wrong with me - perhaps there was ... I think his son still has his collection of engines - will try to find out ... there might be a few other members who know exactly what Im describing ...
  19. i tend to scroll thru the builds on my I phon - but this stuff really needs to be opened and stared at on a larger screen ... just thinking that Augie Hiscano would really appreciate this engine build some of you listers know this - and Steve - I think you are familiar with his stuff - did you ever meet Augie ?? I knew Augie well - and when it came to American engines - Augie was THE MAN - but boy is this a nice build ...
  20. And a GT40 chass 1085 is going to auction also. Another bonkers walk-a-round
  21. Walk-a-round alert ... www.Goodingco.com/lot/1957-lotus-eleven/ best shoot I’ve ever seen of a lotus sports car - There’s smoke coming out of the merit Lotus 11 kit on the shelf above my workbench ...
  22. Nice ! But your poor driver !!
  23. Decided to see if I could make a roll bar mount and see if the distributor still fits ... it does. Will make the other mount and then figure out how to make and mount the water collection tank that is perched under the roll bar ... caught the tail end of Indy qualifying - there’s nothing like the in-car camera shot at 234 miles an hour ... the 29 had straight-a-way speeds of - what - 160?
