  3. https://bid.goodingco.com/lots/view/1-9D6I7S/1959-maserati-tipo-61-birdcage Dunno - the Birdcage looks pretty good in black - if you ever decide to paint the beast ... this is chass 2454 - the third one produced by the factory ...

  6. i’ll need eight of these - two will sit inside the brake discs - which were in- board on the Sixteen - Chapman used in-board brakes whenever he could - right thru the type 79 - 20 years later -

  9. This is another great parts queen …. AMT - years ago - reboxed the Heller FII and FIII kits of the Matra and the Brabham - great kits - better than Heller’s GP kits - which is a mystery - because the same guy did all of the masters - gonna use the brake discs and a couple more parts - a Japanese kit maker also re-boxed and sold these quite recently …
  10. A Renshape Lister - fan-f’king-tastic !!
  11. Chapman was obsessed with the size and weight of the transaxle - his answer was small and lightweight - but famously unreliable - it was known as the queerbox [we are momentarily in a joke-free zone] …. Used in different layouts in the 12, the 15, 16 , 18, and 19 - privateers tended to rip the thing out, throw it into a dark corner of the shop, and replace it with a Colletti, or a ZF…. On the 16 - the gear case - thats what i’ve got here - sits next to the seat and the drive train then has to find its way to the center mounted transaxle … and yes its made of Evergreen … at least on a model …
  12. By the way II - there is a very thorough survey of the Sixteen here - notice its authored by a - then - young journalist named Luvigsen - has a centerfold cutaway …
  13. by the way - the pic on previous page - the one where Graham Hill stares off into the distance with a concerned expression - appears to be an Eleven and not a 12 ... Bf - don't try to convert the Scarab - they are rare anyway - a proper 24th scale 23 is gettable as a slot body - and it is accurate - 24th scale slot kit bodies are often over-priced on the 'net - but keep looking ...

  18. And books by Karl Ludvigsen - his book on Chapman - Inside the Innovator - is still available and a great source of period photos - most (all?) of which were taken by the author …
  19. So - as i build up the driver’s compartment and the rear frame and suspension - i’ve got four sources to refer to - cutaways - there are several - and most are helpful - most are on-line … - the on-line Motorsports Images site - a content search for the Sixteen revealed about a dozen great black and white pix of the driving compartment, transmission, and rear frame and suspension on a series one Sixteen - the site “forbids” re-posting - which i will honor …
  20. Bford, John, PR - gracias x 3 Bford - now that you’ve gotten your hands on the classic Merit Eleven - let me know if you are thinking about a build w a climax engine - i got a scheme for you to consider - Reaearch - the auction house photos of the Halford Sixteen are limited - there are more detailed pix of other sixteens on line - but this car went through dozens of changes during its brief competition life - and all of these cars requred lots of upgrades when they were restored - some have new chassis and many have replacement body panels- the Barber Museum Sixteen appears to be somewhat period original - but i don’t think that its a runner, so …
  21. Bainford - is this your first Merit purchase ? Careful - they are addicting …
