  1. Thanks. I've had the kit for a week now. The rear shocks are sort of sketchy to install. The rest is not bad so far. I ran across a bag of sprint car parts, mostly tires, wheels and a wing. Nothing usable right now. A hood could be interesting. Getting set to do the rub rails...
  2. I have a set of #4 Olympia Beer decals I got years back. Herschel McGriff tribute car. A great source for modified decals is Polecat Decals. I have to take another look at the site.
  3. Exceptional! I like the MPC headers. I'll have to contact Mike about the body and hoods. Sprint car hoods look good as well. I'm building an OG Mustang one right now. I modified the kit hood, not sure if I like it yet. I have some Big Donkey ones too. I got a Ron Coon order on the way with various parts for the build. I'm not sure how period correct a CAE in/out box will be for the era.
  4. Iconic kits for sure, like giving an artist a blank canvas to work with.
  5. I built one 20+ years ago and have a Gremlin that is in the BACK IN THE BOX! state. I looked for it yesterday with no luck. The basic deburring of the frame is a nightmare. I did it all apart, assembled it and primed it. That shows what I missed. Having a flexi-file helps a lot. Pieces #60, 61, 62 are straight .080" styrene, I find it easier to make them rather than mess with the kit ones. The same goes with the J shaped pieces that support the side bars. These I made from .062" copper tube since I have a bunch of it. Almost everything is pinned using .031" stainless steel pins, 1/8" and 3/16" long. 1/32" brass or even plastic works. The horse shoe shaped interior piece, I made up ledges for it to sit on, inside the body from styrene angle stock. The interior tub wouldn't sit low enough, so I lopped off the thick horizontal pieces (about .050" thick) and used .020" styrene backed up with angle stock. I have to take more pictures. The hood was too wide and unrealistic. I took the razor saw to that. I also have some resin ones I may consider. I'm waiting for my Ron Coon parts, other wheels and tires and wheel backs, his W43 part number. Other parts are a nicer radiator, another seat, etc.
  6. I was at a kit seller's house last week and I got one of the Tobias Early Modified kits. This is the Mustang, has not been released for eons. The body is multi piece but went together well. I pinned almost every joint on the chassis to give it strength. I'll be using Ron Coon dirt tires that are smaller than the kit ones. I closed up the wheel wells by .120" per side. This is about as far as I can go, I have parts coming from Ron Coon. Likely going with injectors. Next will be picking paint and decals.
  7. I went with the Model Car Garage PE set. I tried to open the kit piece from the back with no luck.
  8. Ok. The front cage is done. I used 3/32" tubing to make things simple. I had to leave some structure in place since it locates the spindles and front shocks. I had a nifty brake master/clutch master plate made up. I will have to make it over. I used the 2 part method to create bars with compound-angle end pieces. Get the hard part done, attach them in the middle.
  9. My son brought him home from work. He was about 6 weeks old and abandoned by his mom. We were lucky he ate on his own. His mom was a Russian Blue mix. He has the RB face structure. My sister is into cats, she says he is what is known as a Black Tabby. Also called a Marbled Tabby
  10. Me and Mr. Ivan taking an afternoon siesta.
  11. When I was living in Nassau County in 1983, one neighbor had 3 or 4 he was tinkering with. I'd like to get 2 of them and make one "good" car out of them.
  12. This would be nice to have. As it us, the '66 pro street kit, the grille/lights takes an effort to look decent. Mine needed a lot of work and I'll hit it with the Revell chrome spray.
  13. Back on it... I did an engine/radiator fit check... no Bueno. I was resolved to remove the existing front cage hoop and extended the chassis 3/8". The engine is wired up, headers are a good fit.
  14. The Selden NY store is 20 miles each way. I got a heads up on the combo kit and picked up 2, one is for my brother. The Riverhead store has the Vega kits. Great for parts alone.
  15. That K member on the Revell kit, I find it too restricting. I have a coupe in the works (BACK IN THE BOX...) and will be making something simpler for it.
  16. Ever see the movie "PC U"? I think that was the name. One student was doing a thesis on that at any given time, there will be a movie on TV with either Hackman or Michael Caine starring in it. I recently watched The Conversation from around 1974.
  17. Chassis source? Wow is all I got...
  18. I'm using Scale Motorsports 1/20 Scale belt hardware. Easier to see and work with. I like a good-sized hole in the attaching points, .020" is pretty good since PE is a pain to open the holes on. Belt material... I never was able to get the fancy ribbon material to work. I scavenge flat gift-ribbon material, light colored preferred so it can be "painted" with markers. At the $ store, I bought a roll of light blue curling ribbon. I run it over a steel scale to knock down most of the texture. This is my current go-to belt material
  19. Are you going to use/make a water pump riser? As it is, the fan will not even be close to the radiator center.
  20. I lose stuff all the time. Especially one-off parts I have made. Right after I make the replacement... the original shows up!
  21. I still wash 3D printed parts before prime, etc. I have had issues with primer not covering some recesses in things like wheels. A warm water soak with some dishwashing soap is all I do, a little scrub with an old tooth brush too.
  22. Funny.. I dropped an xacto knife last week. I was wearing flip flops. I didn't even look, picked up the knife and went back to work. Then I noticed that my foot was sliding in the flip flop, and I'm on a blood thinner. The flip flop was full of blood, I had nicked my middle toe. I left a trail of blood across my kitchen floor on the way to the sink. Washed it all off... wrap the foot in a paper towel... back to work.
  23. Send me a message, I can take a shot of the back if you want. What do you have to trade? Nothing big, or I'll just send them to you.
  24. Hmmm... I just may go. We have an IPMS show in late March. Mainly military but I'll ask around about Mosquitocon.
  25. That is amazing. I just picked up a '37 Ford pickup and my plans are to graft a '36 nose onto it. We have the technology...
