  1. I've been wanting to do a shadowbox garage scene dio for a while. I finally found a box. Good size. Plenty of room for two models. Hobby Lobby item, its got a nice patina. In scale, the interior dimensions are 31.2 feet long and 14.5 feet deep and high. The plan is to do a lighted garage scene with a crawl space above for storage. Rather than do the bare framed garage, I've decided to do the garage that's been plywood sheathed. One window, double barn doors, concrete floor, one door. I'll be using washes to get an aged patina on the wood, with color added to break up the "man that's a lot of wood". The walls are basswood over foam core. The foam core will give me some depth for the windows and doors as well as a support for the ceiling which will be framed out to look realistic. I cut out templates from poster board for each wall and then cut the foam core and added the basswood over that. I'm gonna need to get some resin garage pieces or a Fujimi garage set. Here's where I'm at so far.
  2. Can't go wrong with flat black. Nice work.
  3. Thanks. I used the Paxton from the Revell '57 Fords.
  4. Thanks guys, it was a good day.
  5. How about a Paxton?
  6. Oh I like this. That looks killer.

    1929 rat rod

Rat rods sure do get under your skin don't they? There is something very cool and refreshing about building without sweating about the perfection of every little detail. Very nice work. It's got style.
  8. Thanks guys. Much appreciated. 49 years sure went by in a flash.
  9. Happy to have you Chris.
  10. AMT, MPC, Monogram, Revell, they all had their stinkers. A vast majority are very doable and don't let one kit get you down on a particular brand. If you want to, tell us you interests and folks can recommend kits that will put a smile on your face.
  11. And of course photos of the time period are not much help, in black and white.
  12. We've got the General Lee, Roscoe's car, Cooter's tow truck, Daisies Jeep available At least two from the Fast And Furious franchise.
  13. Happy to help. I've done more work on the Catalina. Most everything except the body is painted and ready for some detail painting and then assembly. More soon.
  14. Sounds excellent to me. looking forward to it.
  15. So what you have there is referred to as, blush. It is caused by humidity and it primarily effects lacquers, at least in my experience. It seems to get worse if you spray in a humid area and move it to an air conditioned area. The good news is, it will polish out.
  16. I agree with Bill about using recommended topcoats. But, just FYI, you can put an acrylic topcoat over ANY sort of paint.
  17. First off, I like this project. Very original and cool. But, the skirts as the are, stick out like a sore thumb, in my opinion. The rear wheel well opening helps form a very clean body line. A shame to lose that. Maybe consider just a skirt that fits the wheel opening or something like the '58 Impala skirts. The piece of sheet stock doesn't really have much character, it's just flat. Maybe add a character line to with some half round stock? My $.02.
  18. Howard, First, my sympathies regarding your injury and condition. Second, we get a few (non-builders) people looking for custom builds every year. They get very little interest from builders here on this forum. Simply because, time is precious and we've little enough for our own projects. My recommendation to you, is to do a search on ebay, in the Toys/Hobbies/Model Car section, looking for the keyword "pro-built". There are folks there that will take clients and do custom work. But be forewarned, you will be paying for that persons time. Custom work is time consuming. I can't say for certain, but I'd imagine you'll be paying $300+ for the work, perhaps much more. I wish you the best of luck.
  19. Elmers white glue. Water clean up, dries clear.
  20. John, this is really some terrific work. On top of being well done, it's obvious that there was a great deal of planning and forethought involved. For instance, the cross-member under the tranny was built and detailed to look removable. Obviously, in case someday, they have to drop the pan. Most builders wouldn't have bothered with that, even if they'd thought of it. After all it's just a model. Outstanding.
  21. Well. That's pretty darn stunning. I'm gonna have to look for that kit.
  22. Thanks Chuck. Looks like TJ and I will make a deal for one.
