  1. I just picked up this kit after a friend posted up his build on FB and I really liked it. I've read Adam Rehorns review of this kit and his thread got way off track, with almost no one chiming in on the actual kit. But this is too unusual a kit, not to talk about. I'd like to hear from anyone who's been messing with this kit. The kit has some obvious flaws and lets kick around some options. First thing that jumps out at me, that is lacking, is that undersized engine that is mistakenly referred to as a 6 cylinder on the side of the box. I have a 340 tri-power that I was kicking around. also a 426 or 440. Second is that terrible chassis? Anyone tried the AMT Duster chassis under it? Or maybe the AMT '70 Challenger? Also I'ts kind of a shame we didn't get all the decals needed to do a '80 Road Runner. If you have a completed build up or a WIP, post up some pics and lets chat about it.
  2. Thanks Ace.
  3. No one in the construction trades? Okay, then. I think I'll just do a 10' ceiling and add a storage loft.
  4. I've been wanting to do a shadowbox dio for a while. I finally found a box. Good size. Plenty of room for two models. Hobby Lobby item, its got a nice patina. In scale, the interior dimensions are 31.2 feet long and 14.5 feet deep and high. The length and depth are no issue, but at 14.5 feet high it's gonna be pretty tall. If my ceiling or bottom of my trusses are at 8 feet that's a lot of wasted space. I want this to represent a stand alone garage, set in the 60's or maybe 70's. So my question is this, would a 10 foot or even 12 foot ceiling be incorrect in a stand alone garage of the time period? Was it done? It's pretty common these days. I seem to remember the garage on our place in Bayshore, N.Y. was cavernous, but I was just a lil guy at the time. Any help would be appreciated.
  5. I'll be taking care of that tonight. Thanks.
  6. It's ECCO. Off exit 54. Thanks guys.
  7. This is back on the bench with a few changes. more soon. Still wondering about how to paint the body and grill. Opinions welcome.
  8. Just a quick update to let you know how this went. I left Florida on January 3rd and headed west. I slid under and then behind the arctic blast that was moving east at the time, avoiding most of the worst of it. Five day trip. No issues, my Toyota was terrific. Afterward I met my family in Mountain Home and spent the next 2.5 moths looking for work. I started what could be turn out to be my dream job, last week. Test tech for a company that makes emergency lighting, alarms, sirens for police, security, construction, utility vehicles. Strictly a prototype unit job - NO PRODUCTION WORK. So, long story short, all's well and the family is much happier here in the country. Such a risk, but it seems to have worked out. Thanks everyone for your well wishes and interest. Over and out.
  9. Here she is after decals. Paint is smooth, decals are flat. I'll let them dry and set until next weekend. Then I will follow Pete's advice and give it a go. Three light coats about 20 minutes? apart and then an overnight wait.
  10. A quick mock-up after decals. I'm gonna let these set for a week or so and then next week try my best to bury these in clear. I want a show stopping finish on this.
  11. Post it up in this thread please Cap, I'd like to see it. Thanks Pat!
  12. Thanks guys. Dennis, I quite agree. She needs a couple of specks sanded out and maybe another coat, so I'll have to give it a few days to gas out before I try it.
  13. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! More soon.
  14. The Monogram kit's did run kinda hot and cold on engines. The Badman '55 is awful that way, so is the Bad Actor '60 Chevy panel. But the '39 Chevy's and '37 Fords have really great engines so there's ways to make them work. As for 1/24's personally I kinda like them. Generally they have a low parts count but good molding and fitment. There's a lot you can do with them if you try. Great slump busters IMHO. I did a thread on them a while back. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/112812-monogram-124s-post-em-up/
  15. Agreed. The way I see it, if they can put a small block Chevy in EVERYTHING, why not a Viper V10? I put one in a Camaro . Nice work on this. Pretty clever use of the Legos. I'll likely shamelessly steal that idea.
  16. That was all I could think of also. Thanks.
  17. It's a Buick nailhead. I like your project. Maybe come up with some sort of crazy intake to put like 8 or 10 carbs on it?
  18. I need to get the spindle a little further into this wheel, Whats the best way to trim the boss down without screwing up the rim? And by the word "boss" I mean the round button in the center.
  19. Update #2. Chassis fabrication in progress. For something that originally had a V10 in it, the front suspension isn't very accommodating.
  20. Thanks folks. I've gotten some great advice. I'll let you know how it goes down.
  21. Testors One Coat Mystic Emerald. I'm pretty happy with it also.
  22. Either is fine.Lets face it, not everyone checks out our CBP, so if you wan more exposure for your work, by all means start an In Progress thread if you'd like. Several of us do. The '67 Charger is on the bench. However part of my plans have derailed. I'd planned to use the chassis and engine from the 2010 Challenger, but that's not gonna work out. The chassis will fit with some trimming but the suspension s too wide. Because the Challenger has those huge wheel openings that the Charger doesn't have, the tires just don't fit. So. Plan B. Some leftover Viper suspension will be the basis of a scratch-built chassis. More soon.
