  1. Very impressive work. It's been a good year for you.
  2. Has anyone yet test fitted the duval style windshield from the AMT Phantom Vickie on the recent Revell '29 roadster? Something like this has to happen.
  3. I don't know if I missed this news or if it was just buried in all the election BS, but we lost Brock Yates back in October. I know he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease, so this was not unexpected. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/09/automobiles/brock-yates-dead.html?_r=0
  4. Thanks for the smile and it looks terrific.
  5. Thanks guys. I hope to get more done in 2017.
  6. That goes double for me. Outstanding build.
  7. Only two actual builds. The '40 is a restyle I did on my late friends Kenny's build.
  8. That's an interesting option. Thanks.
  9. Oh I agree. It's amazing how that show and it's characters have gained in popularity over time. I have gifted the Firefly set and Serenity at least four times and will again this Xmas. Browncoats forever.
  10. Dave, is quite correct. The sci-fi market is quite large and the Gundam-type giant robots are a huge part of that. My oldest son builds them. The target demographic is young adults and the cost of the kits is QUITE high. $45-120+. They are molded in multiple colors and have clear and chrome pieces. They are snap together, have nearly NO flash or mold marks and can be built in a day or less with minimal tools. Lots of folks argue about the "instant gratification generation". The success of these kits despite the cost says a lot about it. A local hobby shop (Ralphs) was just bought and the new owner, who's quite a savvy guy, has really embraced this trend without pushing the other stuff away. About 2/3 of his sales are sci-fi based. Yeah. I agree completely here. For me a model is enjoyment over time. And like Pete I have 40+ hours into every model. I keep a modest stash. 65 kits or less. I buy most at swap meets spending $8-12 dollars per. So buying 3-4 new kits a year at the hobby store, isn't so bad on the wallet for me.
  11. Yep. As far as finished builds it ranks up there with our best years. I sure enjoyed it.
  12. Thanks Dennis, I'll take yours and the other opinions into consideration.
  13. Good work on the door panels. I'm going to shamelessly steal that idea.
  14. A photo of the kit and a scan of the instruction images in question would be a big help.
  15. I don't think the growth of the hobby is on anyone's mind at Revell/Round2. I think our hobby has about 30 years left in it. No one younger than 30 has lived when cars were actually cool and stylish. Cars are a means of conveyance unless you are into imports and the current trends involving them. If the coolest car of your childhood was a Nissan 300 or maybe a g-body GM there's not much to look back and get nostalgic about.
  16. First off congrats to you. I've never gotten anything but disappointment from Rustoleum paint. That looks great. Looking forward to more.
  17. I honestly think that ship has sailed and the manufacturers are hip to it. The newest releases of stuff that us old duffers love is testament to that. I'm sure there are still some teens involved (and most likely because their dad is) but the number is drastically lower than in 1972. Revell and Round2 know that the 40+ crowd is now their target demographic and they will cater to us. Also I think the folks that like to buy multiples is making up for some of the lack from the younger crowd.
  18. I doubt that will happen. Marketing folks are very skilled at finding the price at which folks will stop buying and keep a product below it.
  19. Yep everything is super clean. Except for the shop, someone grab a broom.
  20. Well, although the prices at the pump are at manageable levels, the prices on kit's aren't going down. Frankly I didn't expect they would. For a lot of us already a $30 model kit is already a reality, and very likely the rest of us won't be far behind. So lets talk about the future. If kits reach $30, $35, or even $40, how that going to affect your model buying? Me? I'm not a collector. I only buy models that really speak to me, that I have a great appreciation for. So the Revell '57 Fords, the S&H Torino, zero interest. But the new Model A's, whoa baby. But still I just buy one of each. So for me, a $40 kit won't bother me much. I build too slowly for it to affect my budget. I will be looking harder at swap meets though and on ebay for old stuff.
  21. What a beast! It definitely looks like it means business. A good easy source of wires that would be closer to scale is an old phone charger cord. Slice one open and use the wires inside. If I can offer any advice it's to spray everything you can. Even the cheapest WalMart spray cans will offer a better finish for silver, black and interior colors than bottled brush paint.
  22. This looks fantastic. I love this kind of stuff. I like that carb manifold also. Anyone know if it's fictional or has a 1:1 big brother?
  23. Wow. This is some very impressive work. Keep it going. It's also the first electric vehicle I've seen modeled.
