  1. Very interesting kit. No something I'd usually build, but it does have some cool features. That has to be the most wonky turbo set up I've ever seen though.
  2. Absolutely. Feel free to post it after the opening post. That would be great. I'm very glad other folks have gotten as much out of this CBP as I have. I've only finished three models in 9 runnings, (although I didn't try every year), but I believe what I've turned out was good stuff. This build off really forces you to be innovative and eye catching (or not) and I think that's really what the Cannonball is all about. Had I thought things through I think I would have put off my current project for next year, but that's how it goes. I'm thinking of fully embracing the pro-touring genre for this next one.
  3. I was the same way Fred. I have too many builds involving scratch building still waiting for my attention that to start another seemed silly. Maybe next year. And speaking of next year. Next year will be the 10th running of the Model Car Cannonball Run. When I started this back on SA forums back in 2007, I never dreamed we'd still be at it. I'm very proud of this CBP, the community we've built and all the fine builders we've seen. So unless someone has a major malfunction with it, I'm going to announce that I will be running next years CBP and that there will be NO THEME. This what we have called "unlimited" in the past and it's always very popular. Build whatever you would want to drive cross country with. When I start it I'm going to open the thread with a honorarium post with all our previous winners. http://s53.photobucket.com/user/Jantrix/library/Cannonball Winners?sort=3&page=1 Our previous runs and the themes. 2008 (SA) - Unlimited 2009 (SA) - Unlimited 2010 (SA) - Route 66 2011 (SA) - 30th Anniversary - 1981 2012 (MCM) - American Graffiti - 1962 2013 (MCM) - Unlimited 2014 (MCM) - 1979 (honoring Brock Yates final run) 2015 (MCM) - Sleepers (our most popular run to date) 2016 (MCM) - Australia (on and off road) As far as the future of the CBP, I intend for it to continue as long as there are interested builders. Or at least until I win one.
  4. Moving myself and packing myself.
  5. No problem. This CBP has been going on for eight years now. It's an annual event with a different theme every year. I started it back on the SA forums and when they took away the poll function to serve as the "race", we moved here. Our current build off is currently underway and the theme is "Australia". Please feel free to check it out. We have never done a build off with just movie replica cars, but folks are free to if they wish. It's a great CBP with some top notch builders. EDIT: Correction. This particular build off is not part of our annual event. This one started when ours was still on the SA forums.
  6. I dig it. A great sleeper.
  7. Very nice. If you use the IMG address instead of direct link, your pics will show up like this.
  8. I can already see that this will be a very special build. Looking forward to seeing more.
  9. Any of the Fast and Furious import kits would have what you are looking for. They can be pretty inexpensively had through ebay.
  10. That was what I thought too. Thanks for the confirmation. This needs to be build, and having a fixed hard top prior to paint seemed logical, as the windshield frame would need to be painted as well.
  11. Thanks Jim. I've really enjoyed the local modeling crowd and the excellent people I've met. But I'm just so caught up in the rat race here in Tampa Bay. If I don't get out now at age 48, it's just going to get harder. Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm going to use the TP method along with cotton material inside the plastic shoe boxes. Much appreciated.
  12. Outstanding work. Welcome to the forum. I'll look forward to seeing more great stuff from you. Maybe a hot rod?
  13. That's awesome Chuck. I dig it.
  14. That's usually my thought as well. As you say, it's the difference between a finished model in a reasonable time period and a model that's on and off the shelf many times over a longer period. Glad I'm not the only one.
  15. Okay, I didn't explain correctly. It seems to me, like the glass slides into the windshield frame rather tightly. In such a way as to make it impossible to install the glass if the frame and top are glued in place before paint. Would you agree?
  16. Let me ask a question. When I peruse this kit, I'm thinking about building it as a non-removable hardtop. So I was planning to strip the chrome windshield frame and permanently mount the frame and top before paint. But it seems to me that you can't get the windshield glass in if you do that. Am I correct?
  17. Chris, there are a LOT of threads on this subject. As the search function here isn't reliable, I recommend you do a Google search using keywords Model Car Magazine and work space or workshop or work bench. You will find what you are looking for.
  18. It doesn't matter. Because it's not like we don't see the problems. We do. They stand out like a beacon. But we don't mention it, because of responses like this.
  19. Sam, I'd like to argue against, "I'm not ready to try BMF". BMF is very easy to use, it's just takes practice to do well. It's not expensive. Find a junk body and practice. Tools are a sharp knife, a tooth pick sanded smooth and q-tips. My first try at BMF was not pretty, but my second was acceptable, and better than any painted trim. With respect, I advise you to stop painting trim, and put forth the effort. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  20. I recommend these from the Container Store. http://www.containerstore.com/s/collections/display/cubes-cases/race-car-display-cube/123d?productId=10001594
  21. I've heard this stuff is good. http://www.uschivdr.com/
  22. You never really know how much hobby stuff you have until it's moving time. So my question is this. What methods have you used to move the BUILT stuff? I'm planning on putting the built stuff in plastic storage shoeboxes wrapped in old t-shirts. Anyone got any better ideas?
  23. Outstanding work. Top shelf.
