Studebaker Starliners
Jantrix replied to landman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes. Every issue of the AMT '53 Starliner is nearly identical to the best of my knowledge. I've owned/opened at least four different releases. It is not a hard kit to find, it's been popular over the years. -
Welcome!

Man that looks great. It deserves a sick paint job so I hope you have something eye catching planned.

Hobby shops in Orlando Florida
Jantrix replied to MERIVA's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There is a Hobby Lobby. There is a place called Central Florida Hobbies that I have not been to. However I have been to Colonial Photo and Hobby. An outstanding place. http://www.cphfun.com/ -
I gotta really disagree with part of this statement. Intricate detail work, that one I'll give you. BUT ....... superior execution is achievable for anyone. Follow Randy's advice below and you'll get there. The key is having the patience to do so. Clean building gets noticed and appreciated.

Man. That. Is. Outstanding! Excellent work.

So we should treat you differently because you have had an injury?

As my PT Cruiser was on it's last legs, I've purchased my parents 2010 Toyota Highlander that they were fixing to trade in. This is my first Toyota and I'm pretty BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH impressed. It's a V6 front wheel drive with a 5 speed auto, and holy cow does it ever want to go. Surprisingly tight turn radius too. Not my pic but that's the car and the color. Pretty happy with it.

Revell 1990 Mustang LX with increased headroom.
Jantrix replied to Maindrian Pace's topic in WIP: Model Cars
According to his profile Alan hasn't logged on here since July. -
No. That's not the way it works here. Ray and Harry and others are offering critique. They are going to do so to anyone. Me, you, anyone. And believe it or not we rely on those critiques to make ourselves better modelers. You can either get your feelings hurt or get a little more critical of your own work so that issues like those are fixed before you post the pics. If you just want ataboys, this might not be the place for you. Every person who views your work here is evaluating your workmanship. You obviously put a lot of effort into this model. Making that V10 fit in anything is a chore. It stands to reason, you'd put the same effort into making sure the wheels are in the right spots and the grill is straight before posting photos. Or else whats the point?

Ditto. I had a 75 but that would be close enough. -
Cannonball Run 2016 "The Aussieball" Official Build Thread
Jantrix replied to TFchronos's topic in Community Builds
I agree with all of the above on voting. Do whatever is fair to everyone. As for the completed builds that seems to be the case with most theme build offs. The theme will sound good to most folks, but when it comes right down to inspiration, it's another story altogether. I think the sleepers theme was an exception because I know it's something every car guy has dreamed of doing in 1:1 and we've already got plans in our head. For me this year the problem was that as a modeler I try not to repeat myself. So when I started planning the build, I realized that I'd already built this model when I did my Cherry 2000 Mustang. At that point I lost interest. I'm already planning next years model though. -
Yes, absolutely. With the chop and the rake it already brings the salt flats to mind. The wheel discs just finish it off.

AMT '77 Pacer Wagon - a new loser out of box!
Jantrix replied to Faust's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Some pretty extensive scratchbuilding and kitbashing, but I enjoyed this kit. -
How do you highlight/wash something black?
Jantrix replied to Super Mario's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Dirt stands out on flat black just fine. I'd come up with a road dust colored wash or maybe some pastel chalks. -
File this under what were we thinking.
Jantrix replied to Scott Colmer's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
What? An image of a maniac using hot pokers on a helpless woman, as a toy intended for children and you see nothing wrong with it? You guys drinking the airbrush cleaner again? I'm a pretty liberal dad but I find this one too creepy. -
Opinions on B&L resin 6.1 HEMIs
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Yes there are several of the BNL 6.1's that use that belt. It looks about 6 inches wide in scale. I am kicking around a Challenger purchase. I'm guessing the Revell's are superior to the AMT's? Thanks again Bill. What I'm also kicking around is adapting a modern intake/valve cover, to a classic 426. Just for flavor. I may try to cut one down from a Viper engine I've got floating around. -
I'm planning a future project and am perusing my resin options and I really like the look of the B&L resin 6.1 hemis. But the look really TALL. Has anyone used one yet and did they fit under the hood in a 60's muscle car or will I need to get creative? Also the belt seems thick on the website photos. I'd likely replace it with a piece of bicycle inner tube so it's not a deal breaker, I just want to know what I'm getting into before I spend the $$. Thanks in advance.

That is seriously impressive fabrication.
