  2. Welcome to the 10th annual running of the Model Car Cannonball Run. This will also be called the Brock Yates Memorial Run as we lost Brock back in October 2016. When we started this CBP in ’08, I’d no idea that we’d still be doing this 10 years later. I’ve been very proud to be part of such an excellent group of modelers. So without further eloquence, let’s get to it. First off, there is no theme this year. It’s what we call “unlimited”. Build whatever car that you’d like to try to run cross country in. It’s always been very popular with a lot of variety. The rules: 1. The build can be either a new or started kit up to 25% complete. A rebuilder or parts box special is okay too. 1/24 or 1/25. EXCEPTION TO RULE 1. If you have a previously started racer from a previous running of the Cannonball (SA or MCM) 50% complete or less, they are eligible to run this year. This is a one year only rule change to commemorate our tenth running. All of our previous runs are still available on either of the two forums. If you are going to do this, please be certain it was involved in a previous run. 2. Before starting please post a photo of your kit(s) or pile o’ parts. No limitation on type of vehicle or technology used. 3. The car must appear to be street legal. Headlights, tail lights, license plate etc. 4. As always, have fun and watch out for two priests in a red Ferrari. 5. Optional – As a memorial to the late Brock Yates, without whom there would be no Cannonball Run, add his name to the build in some way, a license plate, bumper sticker or something. Or add the original Cannonball logo. Or choose a car he drove in the Cannonball. Anything you can think of. Be creative. That’s it for rules. The following is just FYI. You may start a separate build thread for your build if you wish, but please keep the CBP thread updated. The car can be as eye catching or non-descript as you wish. Build time begins on January 1st, 2017 and ends at 11:59PM on December 1st, 2017. That’s 11 months folks. After the finish someone will create a poll and we’ll have the “race”, a public vote. A few weeks prior I’ll start a completed builds thread, for posting up your work and we’ll work the poll from that thread. Take some GOOD PHOTOS! You may build as many models as you wish for this CBP but only one can be entered in the public voting poll after Dec. 2. You can enter this CBP at any time up to 48 hours before the end date. I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge all of our past winners of the nine Cannonballs we’ve done to date. As you can clearly see, even though it is a public vote, it is far from a popularity contest. Each winner turned in top shelf work that could win awards in any judged contest. It is also to be noted that on top of turning in great work, they also represented themselves well with some outstanding photos. Congratulations again to all of them.
  3. Wow. Another tie. I suppose that really speaks to the caliber of the builders we have involved in the Canonball. Kangarats to both of you. (See what I did there? )
  4. Jordan there is no theme. What we call an Unlimited Run. EDIT: The Cannonball 2017 thread starts tonight. I'll get it up around 11pm EST.
  5. Lets get this bumped back to the top again, we don't want another tie.
  6. Thanks. The I6 is from the AMT '51 Chevy. The Paxton and associated belts are from the recent Revell '57 Ford kits.
  7. Super clean Eric. I like it a lot.
  8. Thanks very much.
  9. A quick note on next year. We've kicked around some rule changes in this thread and I've being thinking more about it. I looked back on some early runs and some did allow for up to 50% complete builds to be allowed in. I do not recall any issues based on that. But, as some of you didn't care for it, I'm going to do the following as a compromise. New builds, re-builders and builds up to 25% complete will be allowed. Any previously started model built for a previous Cannonball Run CBP up to 50% complete will be allowed. I know many of us have builds stalled from previous runs that deserve their chance on race day. This will also allow people with current projects that might fit the criteria of a Cannonballer to join us when they normally wouldn't be able to. I think it's a good compromise. Feedback?
  10. Thanks very much. I'm looking forward to the trip. I've already got my route, it's basically a west, north, west, north zigzag across the American west. It adds some mileage but it should keep me out of the snow as much as possible. Art, the GSL trip is already being planned.
  11. 97 views but only 16 votes. Unacceptable. C'mon people, it takes two minutes to check out the builds and click a box. A little respect for these excellent builders.
  12. Here is the original thread Feb, 2008. http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/community_build_projects_cbp_/f/38/t/65264.aspx As for the decal sheet that's not a bad idea. This is the original logo from the very first Cannonball Run. If you wanted to add that to your car somehow that would be cool, maybe with the number 10 in the red field. But, as well as being the 10th anniversary, this is sadly the Brock Yates Memorial Model Car Cannonball Run. We lost Brock back in October from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Most of us missed it due to the craziness of this last election. So perhaps work Brock's name into the build somehow. A license plate or bumper sticker that says "BROCK LIVES" or something clever like that. Without Brock and his rebellious automotive mayhem, the world would be a much duller place. I'll create the 2017 thread after the poll wraps up and I'll add the winner to the Hall of Highway Scofflaws and Degenerates.
  13. This kit has come in and out of my possession twice. It will not happen again. A very cool kit.
  14. Great job for the guys that finished. For those that didn't I will see you next year. I will start the next year's run immediately following the closing of the poll. I don't want to distract folks with more Cannonball threads until this run is complete.
  15. Okay since the other pic was distracting, I've replaced it with a pic of the windshield in question. Thank you for the info.
  16. Thanks guys. I really am relying a bit on mother nature to be gentle with this poor boy who hasn't driven in snow for a while. I've got a front wheel drive Toyota Highlander with recent tires. So I should be okay on plowed roads. I'll have AAA map out my trip with that in mind.
  17. Very nice. I dig it. Looking forward to seeing what you have cooked up for next year.
  18. Update - My wife and sons left Florida on Oct 31. They are in Mountainhome, Id. in a rental home, looking for work or already working. I've been living with family for six weeks now. Since we have a bit of a savings cushion, I've decided it's time for me to leave. I submitted my resignation yesterday. My last day at Honeywell Aerospace is Jan 3rd. I'll start my drive on the fourth. Turns out Honeywell has a small company in Boise, and my manager will be calling to put in a good word. Lets hope it works out. It'll be good to have boots on the ground where I'm looking for work though. It's been tough going finding employment from 2600 miles away. Fingers crossed.
  19. That looks pretty slick.
  20. That is outstanding! The finish on the grill shell is perfect.
  21. That's why I just callem' street freaks and let someone else worry about what it its. What it is tho, is pretty darn cool. I like it.
  22. OR! Here's another possibility. This one is even easier to modify. From a Pantera. These would just require some tubing changes and a plenum modification.
  23. So I think I've found a way to make use of this crazy fictional 2xturbo set up. This is a draw through turbo set up and could be done pretty easily with the upturned exhaust manifolds in the Monogram kit.
