Thanks Kerry. More soon, final primer coat was today.
-
Fantastic work.
-
Excellent build. Glad to see you on the forums, RRR.
-
I like this a lot. Well done.
-
Nice. I'd like to see a chassis pic to see those suspension mods.
-
Thanks guys. From the Revell '29 Model A pick up.
-
Quite a lot done now. Body ready for paint soon. The seats are the rear bucket seats from a Revell 67 Charger. They are narrow enough that they fit very nicely in any old hot rod.

Thanks Pete, very descriptive and on the mark. I will follow that recipe. -
Clear over decals - whats the trick?
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks guys, I'll give it a try. -
I do not have a good track record for clear over decals. On this '49 I waited a full week for the decals to set, and then cleared. Three coats - two mist, one wet, 15 minutes apart. The decals wrinkled after the first wet coat. It was Testors One Coat White Lightning and Wet Look Clear. I was crushed as the model was looking so good. In this second instance it was just one coat of Testors Dull Coat and only one decal of many, wrinkled. The BB/G decal wrinkled and the rest were fine. So whats the trick? Star alignment? None of the decals were very old. I always allow plenty of time for the decals to set and the base coat is well gassed out. I have another project currently on the bench where I want to do a serious polishing job on, with decals. So that means the decals must be buried in the clear. I'd really appreciate some advice. And before you go there, I'm not air brushing yet. I still need a compressor. I'm planning on using Testors One Coat again. The paints lay down super nice straight from the rattle can. Thanks.

Ash welcome back to the Cannonball. We're happy to have you. The Cannonball left SA forums for two reasons. 1. Participation on that forum was on the decline. 2. SA admin took away the poll function that we use as "the race" at the end of the CBP every year. After a back and forth with their admin, it became clear they didn't care if we used their forum at all, so we moved it here. Looking forward to seeing the Subaru.

Why not adapt a modern Camaro chassis and engine? I'll be doing something similar on my Mopar.
-
It's the engine from the Beretta Pro-street. More soon.
-
Yep. Out of curiosity, I measured it at 142mm. It's on par with most of the big Duesey/Linc/Cady luxobarges of the era or a big extra cab pickup of today. I've added 30 inches total. I spotted a '37 coupe done this way somewhere online. I have no idea where, nor can I find it again. No idea if it was an art piece, a photo, or a model. But it sure got the idea firmly stuck in my noggin.

Sort of a mixture of flavors in this one. It's going to be a nice shiny hot rod, with some rat rod attitude. The body will the same color as the engine. I'll be using the clear hood from the AMT '37 kit.
-
Excellent choice. I'm glad you are modifying the intake. If you look at the instructions carefully, you can see that the twin turbos are plumbed backwards. I was able to use the engine for the sleeper Cannonball, but it took some innovation to make it work. Erik, great wheel choice. That should do nicely. Looking good Bruce.

Guys, I'm sorry I've been away for a while. Between the move, the job hunt, interviews, and my internet provider proving to be incompetent, it's been a full couple of weeks. I'll be back on soon and starting my build, and getting the roster caught up. Happy building!

Thanks Bob. Steve, that looks terrific. More work. It's always nice when you've done so many suspension mods and when your done all four tires sit flat.
-
Thanks Bob. First mock up. Man, I'm digging the attitude. Interior has been channeled and everything fits.
-
Most impressive.
-
Thanks guys. Gas tank complete.
-
Very unique. What is the dashboard from?
-
Okay then. Here's where she sits. You can see how she's got the rat rod attitude. Chassis and wheels will be silver. Engine block and body will Testors One Coat Mystic Emerald. Interior ................. not sure yet. Wide whites on big & littles and steelies.
