  1. I'm glad you had a good experience. I've got a local friend who was not so lucky. After the X-Ray, they opened the box, unpacked the built model and then pried the chassis from the body, looking for smuggled cantraband. Of course he tried to explain to them it was a gift for dear-ol-dad and to be careful, but all it did was make them more suspicious. A word to the wise, better to ship it than to hope for an understanding TSA agent.
  2. I finish just two or three models a year so most times my slow & steady build speed finds most fitment issues before final assembly. I am constantly test fitting. This is why people who paint the body first, puzzle the heck out of me. If I did that, a beautiful shiny paint job would look like a muddled mess before final assembly.
  3. Agreed. It looks outstanding. Add an black acrylic wash to all the trim and window/door gaps, as well as the cowl.
  4. You always do things the easy way Fred.
  5. An AMT '96 Corvette GS donated the front subframe, front suspension and seats. Thanks for the ataboys guys.
  6. Considering these are parts from three kits, everything is fitting quite nicely.
  7. Thanks Bill. I'm having a good time with it. Thanks for your valuable input. NOTE: Fixed the double posted panhard pic, now the one that shows the traction bars is present.
  8. I sure won't argue with you on the turbo issue. However all the aftermarket stuff I found was for the 1/24 japanese kits. They would look huge on this engine. In any case I'm going to make do with what I have. Thanks for your input.
  9. The issue I see most often when people leave the plastic unpainted, is they fail to darken panel lines. Find out what color the engine bay should be and paint accordingly. Looking forward to this build.
  10. Well, that you are strange Niko, is a well known fact around here. But you're our kind of strange so it's okay. I am on a few modeling pages on Facebook, but not yet on Instagram. And I'm in no rush to add another time sink to my day.
  11. Thanks. And quite right. I noticed it after my initial post and have already sent a PM to Harry asking it be moved. Here's a quick mock up with the planned wheels/tires for the Cannonball version. It will be painted in Rootbeer Metal Flake which is pretty close to the factory color Golden Ginger Metallic if I spray it over a light grey primer. I'll experiment a bit later on. Tranny mount fabricated and engine mounts properly located. Added some material to the wheel bosses to allow the engine to fit nicely. And here is the AMT 2JZ with some home made plumbing. The kit directions actually have these turbos plumbed backward, so some work is needed to make it plausible. Okay that's all my work to date. More soon. As always, comments, criticisms and hare-brained ideas are welcome.
  12. Wow. This is really looking good. The hood is fantastic and the rocker detail is perfection. Once again you live up to your moniker.
  13. Thanks guys. Here's some more work. According to Ace-Garageguy, with the right set up you could easily drift with a parallel leaf suspension. That's where this is going. Modifying this one for a IRS would have been a real pain in the butt, and It's been challenging making the old parts work. Corvette subframe added and mounts for the traction bars in the rear. Closed up the rear frame. Panhard bar. Traction bars. Shock mounts.
  14. Some great work going on. That's the ticket man. Lovely.
  15. I don't usually create separate build threads for CBP builds but this one is unique and I wanted to share it and get some feedback. When we discussed "sleepers" as this years Cannonball theme, I immediately thought - AMC Pacer. Knowing the coupe had been recently released I asked a friend and club member, if he had one in his dragon's hoard of model kits. He said yes we quickly struck a deal. Imagine my surprise when he showed up with a vintage MPC wagon kit. So in addition to the Cannonball CBP, the plan is to turn this into a drift car. It will be built completely for the Cannonball, and then with a quick wheel/tire change, some added decals perhaps, be completed as a drift car for contest. I've never competed in the "tuner" category before. Looking forward to it. After some suspension advice from Bill Engwer (Ace-Garageguy), I got busy. To put the "tuner" in this one, I'll be using the Toyota 2JZ from the AMT F&F Supra kit. I know it's not as good as other kit 2JZ's, but it's what I've got, so I'll make do. The 1:1 weight of the Supra and the Pacer wagon are very close. If the Supra went fast, this should too. Here's the original chassis. Some quick work with my trusty #11 and some sheet plastic. New tank, and an AMT 90's Corvette front subframe. I will be using the original parallel leafs, but have added the Ford 9 inch, traction bars, and a panhard bar, which you will see in pics later today. That's all for now, gotta get to work.
  16. Great reference photos. The y-block has always been a favorite for me, visually speaking, from FoMoCo. They really looks great done well. Thanks very much.
  17. A little plumbing for the 2JZ. More soon.
  18. I think both brought something different and beautiful to the music. According to Wiki though neither is still with the band. This is the newest lead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floor_Jansen I do agree about Bye Bye Beautiful though. The male vocalist is great and we just don't hear enough of him.
  19. Yep. http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/gr-11004.htm
  20. Except, no one knew he needed help until this rant thread. People on this forum are very hesitant about giving feedback. It's a subject we've been over and over. So my advice at this point, to the OP, is when you would like some feedback, ask for it by changing the title of your thread to something like this. Custom RX7 - need some engineering help/ need feedback / advice please. Bill has helped me out many times with his engineering knowledge. But I asked for it in a way that made people know I needed help. To change the thread title, click EDIT and then in the edit window click USE FULL EDITOR.
  21. The answer here is obvious. If this forum is not to your liking, then you should find another that caters to your interests. The average age age for this forum, is probably somewhere in the mid 40's. So you should understand why an RX-7 post doesn't get much attention. This isn't the Fast and the Furious crowd. This is the Two Lane Blacktop, Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry, Cannonball Run, Lemans crowd. So man up, and get over it.
  22. I thought that was these guys?
  23. And they did two versions. Coupe and wagon.
  24. Where I would not call myself a Trekkie or Treker or whatever, Spock was one of my favorite characters in all of popular fiction. I'll miss Leonard profoundly. "Change is the essential process of all existence." Spock
