  1. I'm also building this one. If you want to get the rear down you are going to have to add blocks between the springs and the axle, or else it has a wicked rake. This is the unmodified stance.
  2. If you are going to stay with the spray cans I think you are screwed. But any of our serious air brush guys here can point out a place to get factory paints for air brushes where you can buy measured amounts so there isn't so much waste.
  3. Okay I have layered on the acrylic paints applied with a sponge. Tomorrow I'll give it a light scrub with some 70% alcohol and work my way through the layers until I get to the rust colors. The more serious rust will be added with talc and washes.
  4. Just one. And yeah its a very early build. I was maybe 15? Before I sliced it up about five years ago. It's current state.
  5. I did a Monogram '56 T-Bird that way years ago. Interesting idea.
  6. That's really well done. Fantastic work.
  7. That I guess is a short way of saying, when did you realize, that modeling was more than just a pastime keep the kids busy when the weather is lousy. When did you realize, "Whoa, grown-ups are building these! And just LOOK at 'em!" When did you realize this was art, and that you in turn, were an artist? We've had some good "where, when, what age were ya" discussions recently so lets keep it going. I always loved building models and continued it straight into my late teens, but it wasn't something I told other people about. I figured it was just kid stuff and felt a little self conscious about still doing at 19 years old. Until I found my first model magazine. I was amazed and felt sooooo vindicated. Seeing those photos made me want to step up my work. As for the art part, it wasn't until I moved next door to and art major at the local university that I understood that. A talented and unique artist himself, he was really impressed with my work. I told him that it was just a hobby, no big deal. He said, "No dude, this is ART. It might start as a kit, but what you do to that plastic is no different than a sculptor molding clay on a wire shape." He used to bring his friends over my place to see my stuff. I gotta admit, I don't know if I've ever received such a compliment before or since.
  8. Wow. I've never seen a derby car build this in-depth. Usually we see some melted up bodies and bad paint and the headers and that's about it. My advice? Don't bent it up any more. It looks right just as it is. Why all the shackles on the leafs?
  9. With all the great dio builders there, if they just carved it down to two catagories, dioramas and everything else, the site would be perfect.
  10. Hey that looks great. A little thinner on a clean rag might help ya with those smudges on the stripes.
  11. Is this going to end up being painted at any time? it would seem a shame to do so.
  12. Super nice work. Looking forward to the next.
  13. Okay here's where I'm at. The brown primer is the areas that will be getting paint. The grey areas will stay grey but be weathered. The painted areas will be getting rust colored acrylics sponged on and then salted and then sprayed with a light coat of flat blue. Then more salt and a coat of flat white. Then I will knock it all off, feather the paint breaks with some 70% isopropyl and then I will be adding some heavy rust in the areas of the rust throughs with some baby powder and acrylic rust washes. I should end up with finishes that resemble the following.
  14. Considering the state of the rest of the car Virgil, maybe some matte clear to knock the shine on that chrome down?
  15. Charlie, my K-Mart is carrying Rustoleum exclusively. I've never had good experiences with them. Their nozzles are ######.
  16. Thanks a lot.
  17. Another build in the planning stages (LSR streamliner) and for this one I need a pair of flathead V8's. What kits have the BEST flatheads? No Arduns, I think they will be too wide. I have a Revell 32 Sedan and I think that has one. Resin recommendations? Thanks in advance.
  18. Man that does look sharp. Nice work!
  19. Hey! That thing gotta hemi?
  20. When we lived on Long Island, I built on an old dining room table in the basement. After we we moved to Florida I built at my desk in my room. Mom got me a big desk blotter so I wouldn't damage the finish. I still did, but my Dad had my back. "He's a kid! Screwed up furniture is all part of having children. Deal with it!"
  21. Hmm. I thought a group of midgets was called a guild. WOnderful builds though.
  22. Very cool! And seriously original. Nice work.
  23. Some great work here. I'm looking forward to starting mine.
