  1. Yep. I'd just brush the matte clear on the grill. Or if you are determined to spray it, do half at a time. Mask the middle center piece and the left side, spray the right. Then reverse it.
  2. Agreed. Aw man yer breaking my heart. So much effort and time spent detailing that undercarriage and then leave the mold lines on the mufflers?
  3. Sounds like some good ideas so far.
  4. Dashboard and steering wheel done. I also dirtified the top and added a lip on the inside of the roof so that it fits nice. If the shift lever and directional look a bit exaggerated it is intentional. Still working on the front seat. Body work very soon. Gotta hinge the trunk and we'll be ready for primer.
  5. Well gang, this is proof that it good to mention your hobbies to your coworkers now and again. I just traded three good throwing knives for the below kits. All but the Superbird are opened, a part missing here and there, and a few pieces painted. All in all I did pretty well when you consider I'd spend $16 bucks per throwing knife. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet, but I'll think of something I'm sure.
  6. Hey Cranky, I just took a good look at this and noted that awesome Buick-ification on the front clip. Is that resin or did you do that with sheet and half round stock? Any WIP shots?
  7. Respectfully (partially) disagree. The line of flats, semi-glosses and silvers are my mainstays for interiors, chassis, suspension, and engine painting. Or even the body if you want a rat rod finish. Marc has the right of it if you are wanting a nice gloss finish. I have used all three with no difficulties straight from the rattle-can.
  8. I'm right there with ya Jesse. When the trend first popped up a number of years ago I was just disgusted with it. I mean why in the world would you make a model look bad............on purpose! Mush less an actual car. I started threads on multiple forums trying figure out what people saw in these cars. Some of them got quite heated and were shut down by moderators. Over time though, I started to see how much talent and effort it took to make these cruddy rides look authentic and believable. After trying (with limited success) weathering for the first time on a post-apoc vehicle I was hooked. Although I still find the rusted, poorly designed/built, death trap rat rods that I see at car shows occassionally, deplorable, the rest of the genre I have really come to really appreciate.
  9. Yep. Although I do use "darn" on here a bit, Gregg has emphatically told us that cursing or suggestions of cursing by using non-letter characters is prohibited.
  10. Allow me to be the devil's advocate here. From the looks of this I'm guessing that mid-engined thingee was perhaps a kit option? Personally, I think you should rebuild it as it sits. It's different, wacky and so far out of the box, it destroyed the box as it left. On a contest table this would stand out like it was neon. Just my $.02.
  11. Sorry to hear about your friend but the rest of the story is as cool as it gets. Looks like you got your work cut out for you. Keep us updated.
  12. Darn shame. I've heard good things about the work that has been done so far.
  13. What happened? An issue clearing? Fantastic work Virg. What did you use to do the tiny rivets? Or are those small holes?
  14. MMM-HMM. Yeah. That'll work.
  15. Elmers white glue for the win. Dries clear, water soluble. It just doesn't get any easier.
  16. I've been tempted to give one a try, but even the cheaper ones are still $30-40. And that's a little high for me.
  17. I have had no problems stipping Krylon with Purple Power or Super Clean.
  18. I find that when I losing interest in a project, I'll dive into the scrap bins and parts drawers and just start brainstorming until something clicks. It's usually followed by a lot of cutting, shaving and sanding. Sometimes it ends up like this. Other times it ends up in the trash, but I still had fun doing it, and it was only scrap anyway.
  19. I'd like to echo Chuck and Charlie. This forum and the usual suspects that frequent it, have been the biggest influence on my building.
  20. My name is Rob Mattis and I approve of this build. Wow man, that really looks sharp. The weathering looks very authentic. The cracked side mirror is genius.
  21. Well you have to admit the period specific kits really have been working for Revell here for the last 5-6 years now. The 49 Merc, the 50 Ford p/u, and the duece kits have all been very traditional (with the exception of the 5.0L engine option in the duece kits) and the 68 Charger. I think Revell really has realized where there market is and is designing appropriately. It would not surprise me to see a sedan and/or convertible kit following in a year or so. I'm looking forward to this even more than the Hudson. The 46-48's have always been among my favorite fat fendered models. Best of all my wife saw the preliminary photos and me drooling over them and she said, "Nice, we'll have to get you a couple." What a gal.
  22. Now if you could just get a hot rod shop to open up next to that, you'd be in modeling nirvana!
  23. Just FYI. The macro setting on most modern digicams is identified by a little flower symbol. Heck even my new smart-phone has one.
