  1. Thanks. Yes it is. It's the only replica I have done to date. Here's the Photobucket album. http://s53.photobucket.com/user/Jantrix/library/Cherry 2000?sort=3&page=1
  2. I'm pretty sure this would be considered a show rod. Anywho, it's the only one I have done.
  3. Cale, you'd be doing us a favor if you'd pick a build that will be your "main" build, the one you intend on completing no matter what, to be ready on race day. With fewer build options than normal, freeing up some build ideas and potential kits/ engine sources, would be appreciated. You can still build all three of course. No one wants to be up against three other Skylines on race day. Catch my drift? Me? I'd build that Skyline.
  4. Here's the plan. In order to ensure a completed build next December, I'm gonna use the KISS principle. Keep it Simple Stupid. No custom chassis, no major fabrication. I'm gonna build the Revell Goodguys kit with just a wheel/tire and engine change. The engine will be a single turbo slant six with EFI. I'll add a same side intercooler. Not sure about paint yet. I'm leaning towards something weathered or primered, but it's gotta stand out. A military paint job would be perfect for this, but I've done that recently.
  5. You and me both brother. No, unless a wildfire burns us out, NO MORE MOVING. I have taken steps to ensure a completed model this year. I've picked a kit that is pretty much perfect from the get go, with just a engine swap and wheel/tire change. No heavy fabrication. John Teresi can smoke through all that, but it takes me forever. I'll probably not finish last years racer until after the next presidential election. I'm fairly confident I can finish this one, despite the amount of work around the farm. Gotta do something when it's snowing right? I'm gonna post up my model in the 2018 thread this afternoon. Stay tuned.
  6. Okay the 2018 thread is up. I was able to write it up a day or so ago on my wife's laptop even without internet.
  7. I'd like to take a moment to acknowledge last years Cannonball winner. Bruce Coy. Bruce has set the bar high, just like all our past winners have. Okay. Lets get creative. I started this thread early for planning purposes only, no building until Jan 1. 2018 Cannonball Roster 426 Pack - keeps changing - who knows what he'll build Jantrix - '41 Willys IAMSUPERDAN - Chevy Truck Erik Smith - '92 Miata BelugaWRX - Amalgam Corvette KWT - Datsun 240Z Zenrat - Bugatti Royale Meatman - Ford-Opel Cobra TimJ - Toyota Supra Wrecker388 - Ford Hot Rod Cpt. 8. Welcome race fans, to the 11th annual running of the Model Car Cannonball Run. This year’s run is shaping up to be especially memorable as the racers will have to leave their beloved V8’s at home! That’s right, the only allowed power plants are in-liners of any variety. So expect some serious mad scientist engineering as our race teams are going to strive for every last possible horsepower. There is no shortage of in-line power plants available, both foreign and domestic. So which engine gets chosen and why will be of particular interest. The rules: The theme is in-line engines. Your build must feature an engine or engines with all cylinders in a row, of any variety. 1. The build can be either a new or started kit up to 25% complete. A rebuilder or parts box special is okay too. 1/24 or 1/25. If you absolutely must do a 1/20 model we’ll likely bend the rules as we have before, but that’s the limit. EXCEPTION TO RULE 1. If you have a previously started racer from a previous running of the Cannonball (SA or MCM) 50% complete or less, they are eligible to run this year as long as they meet the theme requirement. All of our previous runs are still available on either of the two forums. If you are going to do this, please be certain it was involved in a previous run. I’ve decided to continue this rule from last year, as the goal of this CBP was always to get people building and finishing models. 2. Before starting please post a photo of your kit(s) or pile o’ parts. No limitation on type of vehicle or technology used. I have a feeling we’re gonna see some weird stuff this year. 3. The car must appear to be street legal. Headlights, tail lights, license plate etc. 4. As always, have fun and watch out for two priests in a red Ferrari. That’s it for rules. The following is just FYI. - You may start a separate build thread for your build if you wish, but please keep the CBP thread updated. - The car can be as eye catching or non-descript as you wish. Bright colors and/or racing livery will make you more noticeable to local law enforcement, but that’s your problem. - Build time begins on January 1st, 2018, local time and ends at 11:59PM on December 1st, 2018, local time. That’s 11 months’ folks. - After the finish, we will create a poll and we’ll have the “race”, a public vote. - A few weeks prior I’ll start a completed builds thread, for posting up your work and we’ll work the poll from that thread. Take some GOOD PHOTOS! I cannot emphasize this enough, good photos are essential. No one has won this with crappy photos in poor lighting. - You may build as many models as you wish for this CBP but only one can be entered in the public voting poll after Dec. 2. - You can enter this CBP at any time up to 48 hours before the end date.
  9. This has been a concern of mine since I started to really watch what my sons were watching. Recently even channels that should have educational shows like Discovery, History Channel, Animal Planet have terrible mindless dreck on them. My wife and I have recently moved into the country, away from people because living among them has become so onerous.
  10. Nah. I'd venture to say most of us do it. Some of the older stuff is a little pricey now though. I only just recently got my hands on the Johan 60 Desoto which was a favorite when I was a boy. I build them similarly but not necessarily the same.
  11. What does everyone else think? Now or wait until the end of the month?
  12. Here's my built models in my new dedicated hobby room. My unbuilt stash is about 65 kits and generally unremarkable. I build a good variety of stuff I think.
  13. Cale, thanks. I'm looking specifically for the livery on the model box.
  14. Thanks guys. As I said, hens teeth. I'll go ahead and check out five spokes of the period and paint the side pipes black. Much appreciated.
  15. Honestly this is why the Cannonball CBP still exists. We have a group of really great people who understand that competition or no, this for fun. Some of these guys have been with us since the very first run on that other forum. Terrific builders and good friends. Otherwise, I'd have given this up long ago. A big final thanks to Mike for driving this home for me. I've only got internet for a few minutes at lunch, at work, and dealing with the poll would have a pain in the butt. Much appreciated. We'll have internet at the new homestead in the spring. I will be posting up the thread for next years run before Christmas, so people can post up their plans before kick off on Jan. 1. Pay close attention to what people are posting up so that you don't end up doing the same thing. With a limited field of kits with straight engines, it's quite possible. Randy, thanks for your offer to provide gifts for the finishers, that's very generous. After perusing your website, it's a safe bet you'll be seeing an order from me soon.
  16. Yep. Building this one. Doing it OOB for a club challenge. But that's no reason not to make it look authentic. BUT, apparently photos of the featured car are as rare as hen's teeth. Even on John Greenwood's website. Lots of photos of the #49 and #50 car, but not much on the #48 with these graphics. I mostly concerned with the appearance of the wheels (chrome or aluminum), the side pipes (chrome or silver) and a few other small details. This seems to be the only car of JG (of this time frame) to have five spoke wheels. The rest have Minilites. If anyone has any reference on this car, please let me know.
  17. Momma said there'd be days like this. Glad yours is doing okay.
  18. Where there are a few kits that have a sort of generic V8 that could be this or that, most kits are pretty good about identifying the engine that is featured. If you don't know for certain what the engine is, post up some photos in the Q&A section and some one here will set you on the right path. After that, Google will show you where your spark plug location are. I'm sure you'll do better than I did on my first attempt. This is the ultra rare 7 cylinder alternate spark plug location hemi.
  19. Congrats Bruce. A great looking Cuda. This is Bruce's second win in a row folks. He tied for the win during the 2016 Aussieball Run. Pretty darn impressive. The work this year has really been setting the bar high for next years run.
  20. Erik, that is some super work. Although Mike and a few others included the Brock Yates references, yours is based upon Brock's cars and I think he'd be proud of your versions. Well done sir.
  21. Not surprising. You are a tremendous builder with a knack for picking interesting and fun projects for the Cannonball. That's a hard combination to beat whether you vote for yourself or not. Three CR wins is testament to that. I've only managed to finish a model three times out of ten. I need all the help I can get, so I don't feel bad at all about voting for myself.
  22. I have. Every time.
  23. Excellent work on the poll Mike. Thanks very much. Great field of racers this year with some real imagination mixed in. Outstanding work everyone. Expect next years run to start at the end of the month.
