Absolutely fine. Looking forward to it.

I think if we were doing pretty much any other theme, a curbside would likely be okay, although it's certainly not the norm for Cannonball racers. However as the theme specifically calls out a particular style engine, I do not believe a curbside is a good pick. Having said that, I am NOT going to disallow the model, as we have never had a rule against curbsides. I'm not inclined to make one now. If you want to build it as a curbside and call it an in-liner, so be it. But .................. on December 2, we race. It's hard to win a race without an engine.

FYI - the roster is up to date. You'll find it on the second post on this thread. Let me know if your project changes and I'll update as necessary.

Thanks Bruce. I'm back at work today. Got a little bench time. Deleted the stock tranny for the slant six and replaced it with a modern 5 speed automatic from the AMT 5.7L hemi. Set up the stock motor mounts and added a cross member to support the whole shooting match. With only a wheel/tire change and an engine swap, I don't foresee any issues with this build. I'll be adding the bumpers from the Monogram '37 Ford to make it a little more street-able. I'm not a fan of the sans-bumpers look that most Willys coupes have. I'm still kicking around the paint. The big super glossy Willys is the norm for these cars so I'm thinking flat white.

Yes. By all means begin. I'm sorry but I've been fighting a chest cold the last few days. This is the official build thread.

Yep. I see em now.

Ugh. Still molded in red.

David, Photobucket links no longer work unless your spending serious $$.

Just to head off a future "is this allowed" post I'm gonna throw this up. Look closely. This half V8 now has only four cylinders, all in-line. This is a Bonneville application, but with a good engineer and machinist, a road racing application is certainly possible. If this doesn't get your creative juices flowing nothing will. And for those of you without in-liners in your stash, options are now available. Please do some research. There is more to this modification than removing pistons and a cylinder head.

Diesel in-liners are fine. 6 days until we kick this off. I literally have everything all laid out on the bench top ready to go. On the second I'll start the roster, but I won't add you until I see the starter pic of your kit. I hope everyone had a great Christmas if you celebrate such.

An old door on a couple of saw horses has been my work bench before. A yard sale dinette. Right now it's an eight foot Rubbermaid banquet table.
-
How much of the kit is assembled and painted? If you are in doubt, take some photos of the entire build and PM them to me and we'll figure it out together.

I'm familiar with the Wankel. I'm inclined to say no, just to keep everyone on the same playing field. We chose in-liners. Although the rotary combustion chambers are as you describe, it really is an entirely different style engine.

I recommend these from the Container Store. https://www.containerstore.com/s/race-car-display-cube/d?productId=10001594&q=display case -

Whats the weirdest kit in your stash?

Yeah. A model of a dead guy wins this whole thread. -
"My Year In Review" Threads
Jantrix replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The only reason I agree this year is because for the first time in 15 years, I didn't complete any this year. So pure jealousy on my part. -
Project "Every Which Way"
Jantrix replied to bill lanfear's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nope. Unless you're posting every time you glue on a part, you'll get no complaints from us. A terrific model. Very authentic and well done. Now the hard part is finding a 1/25 scale orangutan. -
I got about 90% through one, but damm it's been a busy year.

Who knew this would end up being prophetic?

Mike, this was an especially thoughtful and time consuming thing to do for all of us Cannonballers. It's much appreciated. Excellent work.

Mike just FYI, Crazyhorse won 2009, not Zenrat. http://cs.scaleautomag.com/sca/general_discussion/f/3/t/86993.aspx
