It's the roll cage, those NASCARs were tough. Remember King Petty's crash? Something funny about a Winston cup racer, cut up for opening doors.

I'm enjoying the stories that are going along with the pictures. Fun, seeing the similarities we've all experienced, which is why I started the thread.

The windows, wheels and accessories change the whole look of the kit. I'm going to have to take some ideas from yours. Great build! Was that the yellow one with the wave on the side? California Cruiser van?

While perusing Ebay the other day, I got to remembering the first models I took an interest in. Then I contemplated the history of my earliest builds. Here's what I remember: The first model cars I can remember were my dad's builds probably from the late 60s judging by the age of the kits. That would have made me about 3 or 4. I'll never forget how cool they were and that distinct smell of Testors Pla Enamel. He told me that the 63 Bonneville and 64 Grand Prix frictions were given to him as gifts because they looked like cars he owned. He built two of the 68 pickup trucks - one as a lime gold tow truck and the other stock very dark candy blue. 66 GTO dark candy red with Hurst wheels. 69 Grand Prix avocado green appliance paint. (Note - these are all online pics, most of mine don't exist anymore.) They later were played with by me and sadly, some did not make it. I did manage to hang onto the GTO, the 64 Grand Prix and one of the 68 pickup trucks. Monogram Dog Catcher. First kit I had a hand in building with my grandfather. Well, he built it, I plucked the parts and handed them to him. Bushwacker and Chevy Stepside. First model birthday presents. BreDatsun 510. Dodge L700. Built with my dad. First kits I built on my own. Ranchero. Red Alert. California Cruiser. Rubber Duck. And then the addiction set in. These are all before 1980. And it snowballed from there. What are yours?

How come this Roadrunner never comes back as the GTX and the 71 GTX never comes back as the Roadrunner/Satellite it originated from?

Well it does look lighter.

Did you have to borrow a lot of "money" from "Matilda mother" to build this "new machine" that'll "run like hell?" You know you could make it "any colour you like", but make it "shine on, you crazy diamond!" And don't let the "dogs of war" call you "Sysyphus" for your choices, either. Well done and "have a cigar!" "Wish you were here" to see the "great gig in the sky" It's "time" for "us and them" to say "goodbye blue sky". "Stop"

Make sure you perfect that peak on the center of the hood before you glue any of those "accessories" to it. Otherwise you'll never be able to access it with a sanding stick later.

Looks like they got too much junk in the trunk! Why didn't they just put one from the right car?

The Yenko has a beam axle?

Is that the color it's molded in? Looks great! I've never seen a metallic molding that didn't have lots of swirls in it.

Really great job on all three! I've never seen the movie, I just figured it was another Mad Max - starring Han Solo.

They could've used photos of real cars like they've done before. Instead, they used the absolute wrong kit. Not even close to the one's on the box. I'm sure at the time somebody built the kits that they were promoting. Lazy, just lazy! These were the reason I wasn't buying RC2 kits for a long time! False advertising has it's penalties.
