  1. Incredible craftsmanship and workmanship!! You usually have to look at 1:16th and larger scales to find this level of detail. Thanks for sharing,
  2. The Mustang is my favorite, too!! Nice work on all of them!! Thanks for sharing,
  3. Thanks, guys! This will be my last "flying" car build for a while. I've got several other projects I've started that I need to get back to... Later,
  4. While waiting for the black basecoat to cure on the BAT car, I got back to work on the 2239 Chevy. So far it has a black base coat and I finalized the design for the side trim. With a little green screen magic, here's the car superimposed over a scene from the 5th Element heading into the garage. Here's the green screen shot before I added the trim and colored the body in PowerPoint. Time to print the side trim onto sticky-back paper, apply the paper to 0.06" styrene, cut out the trim, then get it sanded to final shape and glued to the body before the final basecoat of black is applied... Later,
  5. Look at all those parts ready for assembly!! Elves...there can be no other way... Another cool build, my old friend!! Later,
  6. After all of the parts were cleaned in bleach I added a small piece of brass wire to each of the window posts on the rear edges of the doors. Then it was "prime time". It needed a little putty along the bottom edges to clean up a few spots before I spray the black base coat. Though they barely show once you put the body over the chassis, the Herb Deeks wire wheels are really cool and go together pretty easily. The kit comes with resin inner and outer rims, but I found some outer rims in my parts box that were the same size and already chromed that I knew would look better than painting the resin ones. Now it's time for a little sanding and prep before I spray the black basecoat on tomorrow. Later,
  7. Yes, Bernard is evil, but in a good way And for those that really know me, they also know that this isn't my first adventure with a resin kit. I also built the resin '55 Nomad gasser from SMBC several years ago. Here's proof: I got all of the parts cleaned in bleach to remove the mold release and I'm starting to fit the headlight covers to the body. Once they're fitted it'll be "prime-time"!! I think I'm going to start with a black basecoat to find any small imperfections. Oddly enough, I'm going to use the same color on the Alfa that I used on the Nomad, but I want it just a bit darker. Well, back to the bench!! Later,
  8. This year when my friend Bernard (GBK1) came down to spend the weekend with me and my wife for the NNL West, he not only surprised me with a T-shirt of one of my favorite concept cars of all time, the 1953 Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 5, but he also brought along a Fisher 1:24th resin kit of the car!! While he knows I'm not really a fan of most resin kits, he also knew that the resin kits from Fisher are outstanding!! The initial cleanup was pretty minimal. A little sanding around the edges was really all that was needed to get this little beauty ready for a good cleaning and a coat of primer. There aren't any pinholes anywhere on the body, but there are a few spots around the edges that will need a little bit of putty before I spray the base color coat. Here are a couple of shots of the actual car: I can only imagine what people thought of this thing when they first saw it in 1953!! Here are a couple of shots of the model after the initial prep: The PE set includes the steering wheel center, the instrument panel, gauges, radio, wipers and name badges. Bernard also ordered the PE wire wheel inserts from Herb Deek's that will really make this little jewel standout. There are duplicates of some of the more fragile resin parts, but I had no trouble trimming and fitting the front fender fin inserts. See below. The only modification I'll make to the kit will be to add a small piece of brass wire to the backside of the rear edge of the window posts on the doors (the ones just in front of the B pillars). That will help reinforce it for handling when I BMF the posts. This should be a fun build and look really cool sitting next to my Danbury Mint Aston Martin DB5 (James Bond car). Thanks, Bernard!!
  9. Cool build!! Thanks for sharing,
  10. Cool build, Lyle!! The Wagonrod kit is a great donor for this type of build!! Thanks for sharing,
  11. Where did that one come from? You must have kept the elves up late the night before the NNL getting that one finished in time. I don't even remember you telling me that you (or they) were building it. Later,
  12. My friend Bernard brought me the 1953 Alpha Romeo B.A.T. 5 model by Fisher!! It's a really nice resin piece with Herb Deeks wire wheel inserts. This is one of the coolest cars from the 50s you'll ever see!! Thanks, Bernard!!
  13. Very cool movie, very cool car!! Your build matches the car in the movie very nicely!! Later,
  14. WOW!! Those are some wild computer cases!!
  15. The entire build looks awesome!! The handmade boards are too cool!! Thanks for sharing,
  16. Looking good, Bernard!! This has got to be your best build so far!! See you next week...we've got your room ready
  17. You can get them printed on cloth from Scale Modeling by Chris. I bought some several years ago to see how they look. They're OK if you want the general look but don't want to build them yourself... Later,
  18. I had a '67 Camaro SS from '75 to '82, but my favorite was the '69 Camaro SS with the ralley stripes. I almost bought a '68 SS with a 396, (back when I had the '67), but I didn't want to borrow the extra $300 I needed to meet the guys asking price of $800. That...and it needed a new clutch...
  19. I'll always remember the response from my good friend, (Curt Raitz), when I asked the same question several years ago. Curt said, with a smile and a chuckle, "model building is nothing more and a series of fixing your mistakes as you build." How right he was....
  20. Amazing craftsmanship, workmanship and speed!! Keep up the GREAT work!! And...thanks for sharing,
  21. Some I keep...some I sell and some get given away to, or traded, with friends. It kind of depends on how much time I put into it, how long I've had it, how well it came out, how much display space I have at the time and how much a friend might want it more than I do... With my four display cases already being full of my Danbury Mint diecast collection and a bunch of my built models, I need to start clearing out some of the stuff I've had for a long time to make room for some of the newer pieces I want to build... Later,
  22. I lost my grandfather earlier this year. He was a very important person in my life. It took several months and was very hard to deal with, but having family close by helps a lot. Take care,
  23. COEs are just too cool!! It looks like you've got the overall shape looking right. Don't stop now!! Thanks for sharing,
  24. The weathering on the engine looks GREAT!! Thanks for sharing,
