  1. I boil the water, put it in a wide bowl, then put the plastic in it for a few seconds to warm it, then take it out and gently bend the plastic back into shape. You will have to do several dips, plastic usually remembers its shape, and after several attempts and cool-downs, it will straighten.
  2. Yeah, it came out a bit darker probably cause I sprayed it a bit thick. Yep, been using this trick for a while now!
  3. Looks good! Why didn't you use the carpet stickers provided in the kit? I thought they worked real well when I built mine.
  4. That's a very cool conversion! Love it. Painted the trim on the body, painted the shell flat black inside, did all the trim and decals. Decals were old and started crumbling, so had to transfer the first one in pieces, then sprayed some Microscale decal film on the rest - went on a bit easier. IMG_0988 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0989 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0996 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0994 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Funny how the color changes depending on lights. Under fluorescent lamp it looks almost purple! Then I moved to the chassis and interior. Spent couple of hours cleaning all the parts from mold lines and little imperfections: IMG_0912 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Painted all the little bits in the base colors: IMG_0933 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Chassis plate was painted black and then sprayed with some flat clear to give it some depth/texture: IMG_0938 by Italian Horses, on Flickr The I ddi some detail painting and dry brush on the suspension parts: IMG_0942 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Assembled front suspension: IMG_0945 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Rear: IMG_0948 by Italian Horses, on Flickr And entire chassis ready: IMG_0952 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0950 by Italian Horses, on Flickr
  5. What are those red wires sticking out of brake calipers?
  6. I use automotive 2K clear - this brand: Untitled by Italian Horses, on Flickr Just make sure you spray it outside or in a WELL ventilated place and wear N100+ mask approved for VOC/Iso and googles/gloves. Iso is a nasty stuff. Change your mask/cartridges after 8-10 hours. Keep the mask in air-tight container.
  7. I wanted to paint the car in Capital blue - a dark, almost violet shade of blue that Honda offered starting in 1985. The problem was - I didn't have the paint, and with all the local stores closed, I wasn't willing to wait for it to be delivered. Sooo, I decided to mix my own. TS15 & TS8 in 3:1 proportion. IMG_0876 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Painted a spoon to see how the color would look - was very satisfied with the result. IMG_0900 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Prepped the body, re-scribed panel lines, gave it a coat of white Tamiya primer, and painted the lower portion in MM magnesium silver. IMG_0883 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0881 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Then the lower portion was masked off, and I laid couple of coats of clue paint: IMG_0885 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0888 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Followed by 2 coats of clear: IMG_0890 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0892 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0893 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0896 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Turned out great.
  8. Oh Nice! Very cool custom. Love the Jack on the antenna.
  9. That's cool! How were these to drive? This is no often seen kit. In fact, I think I've seen only a couple built ones. I like it! You not going to win it, Peter Yo! Yeah, but...you paraphrasing one cool guy I know, you miss on a 100% of the kits you don't buy/build. So, had to. Nice! Yeah, grab one now if you want one!
  10. This is another "pandemic" build that I started last week right after I finished the Porsche. Wanted to build another quick one, but maybe do a little more than just a box stock this time. I have a large collection of unbuilt kits, so picking the next one is always a challenge. this time I chose a little Japanese rocket from the 80s - The CRX! the kit itself is rather rare nowadays original release - first pressing brought into States by MRC! IMG_0858 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0859 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Number 40 in Tamiya catalogue, made in 1982 according to the date on the decal sheet (yikes!). Decals look fine, but we'll see how they hold up. IMG_0862 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0861 by Italian Horses, on Flickr The kit itself is very typical for the kits from the 80s - very charismatic. Look at it - you open the box and can smell that old cardboard, crinkly wraps, yellowed instruction sheet. And what a drawing on the front of it! IMG_0863 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Moulding quality seems a bit better than Revell IMG_0860 by Italian Horses, on Flickr I also have this small decal sheet that I plan to use on the seats: IMG_0873 by Italian Horses, on Flickr The kit was purchased years ago on eBay, and made it to my with some damage - the roof was pushed in and bent one of the A-pillars: IMG_0856 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0857 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Carefully not to break old brittle plastic, I have bent it back into shape in boiling water: IMG_0864 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0866 by Italian Horses, on Flickr To check it I test fitted the glass and it seemed to fit fine: IMG_0867 by Italian Horses, on Flickr And I couldn't resist mocking it up with the wheels IMG_0871 by Italian Horses, on Flickr
  11. Ha! I just don't know how to weather, so all my cars are clean! Thanks! I had it polished a bit, it wasn't really perfect Sitting at home over the weekend, and all home chores done the weekend before. So yeah, gives plenty of time for model building!
  12. Perhaps, its not an exact science, I found out! Thank you. No, it was slammed in stock form! No mods to the kit at all.
  13. Thanks. Yeah, but it was like non-stop model building with bathroom breaks. Everything that has white background os pretty much day one, black background is day two, and then I finished some bits and final assembly day three. Box-stock curbsides are fun and urethane paints are life-savers! Umm, Tamiya masking tape? I don't know man, there is really no secret. This one actually not perfect, I can't cut the tape as straight as I used to with my hand anymore. Thanks!
  14. Needed something to get me out of the slump, and social distancing was just the ticket This is a quick box-stock (really took less than 3 days, weekend more or less) build, these Tamiya kits are sure a joy to build. Everything fits so nice. Slightly shelf-worn box - I had this kit for some time. IMG_0705 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0706 by Italian Horses, on Flickr In the end, the hope was to have something close to this: download by Italian Horses, on Flickr Old stash of Zero paints, Giallo modena (naturally), Tamiya white fine primer - go! IMG_0714 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Re-scribed the panel lines, cleaned all the parts, wash, dry, two coats of primer: IMG_0713 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Two dry color coats, one dry, one wet coat of Dupont Chromaclear. IMG_0720 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0718 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Left the paint cure overnight, then quick polish to remove couple of dust specs, masked off the trim, painted black + body shell inside: IMG_0721 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0722 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0723 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0724 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0725 by Italian Horses, on Flickr While the paint was setting, I was busy cleaning up all the small bits. Bunch of suspension parts sprayed in aluminum: IMG_0742 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Interior parts and some exterior bits flat black: IMG_0747 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Then some detail painting and wash on the suspension parts: IMG_0760 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Dampers painted: IMG_0768 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Brake disks done: IMG_0774 by Italian Horses, on Flickr The rest of the body parts painted black: IMG_0757 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Then I switched to the chassis - engine block painted and some wash/detail painted: IMG_0751 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0753 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Then I masked off and painted the floor: IMG_0755 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Aaaand put together everything from the previous few pix: IMG_0805 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0808 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0802 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Next - interior. It is rather spartan in this car, but that only made for a quick assembly. Dashboard: IMG_0781 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Seats - decided not to mess with the real belts, just used kit decals which surprisingly look fine: IMG_0789 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Then the interior was all put together: IMG_0812 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0810 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Few shots of the completed chassis: IMG_0813 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0815 by Italian Horses, on Flickr The wheels were painted with Molotow gold marker (I drained the paint out of the marker and sprayed it with airbrush). They turned very good, not the best picture, though: IMG_0791 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Couple of the mock-up pictures: IMG_0819 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0818 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0817 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0816 by Italian Horses, on Flickr And finally, windows, wipers, mirrors went on: IMG_0821 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0822 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0826 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Rear lights stripe: IMG_0825 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Headlights, markers, front lip: IMG_0824 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0823 by Italian Horses, on Flickr And the the little yellow bugger was done! IMG_0827 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0843 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0829 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0836 by Italian Horses, on Flickr IMG_0833 by Italian Horses, on Flickr Live long, build 'em all! Cheers! Alex
  15. Is the USCP kit really that ill-fitting or is it not fully attached yet?
  16. Super clean!
  17. Looking good!
  18. Nice stance!
  19. Thanks guys. Thanks - WIP thread here: Need to take some beauty pics!
  20. You guys are too much! Posted this not to get the kudos but to thank for support and being there. And you return it two-fold. Thank you.
  21. "Other magazine"? Perhaps... Thanks Gary, appreciate the kind words!
  22. Any updates on this one?
  23. Thanks guys, much appreciated. It is a very old and rare ABC Brianza kit, made in late 90's. I picked it up by mistake, thinking it was second Dino prototype, not a Paris car. But glad I did, cause I have never seen that kit again.
