Plenty of info' on colour here, http://www.trabant-original.de/otdbx/ColorDB_view.php have a look at this video, there's quite a bit that goes into making a Trabant (or there was) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EBxpD9iRPE

Revell Germany new VW Golf (Rabbit for you guys)
GeeBee replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looking at the photo of the Revell Monogram version of the GTi, and looking at the sprues for the Revell Ag version, the sprue that has the bumpers on (Sprue P) only has the bumpers and a few other parts, the Cabrio parts sprue lay out is totally different, so with a different set of bumpers, and some decals for the side marker lights looks like the VW Rabbit will be a goer ... -
I know, sad isn't it .... Yes, I reckon a week or so should have the Trabbi finished

Dremel for Polishing
GeeBee replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If your still getting fine scratch marks in the paint after using the flatting papers, you need to carry on with finer grades until they have gone, I've just bought myself some 8000 and 12000 grades, and they have made a great difference in the polishing process -
Oh yes, Genuine VW River blue metallic ....

Got this with 20% discount, wasn't going to buy one, but it will be a reminder of the years I spent working @ VW (VAG) U.K

Dremel for Polishing
GeeBee replied to StevenGuthmiller's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I used to use my Minicraft variable speed drill and cotton polishing mops to polish out my models, but these days I use fine flatting papers and different grades of polishes and do it all by hand, it takes a little longer, but does get a better finish. This was the last model I used the Minicraft drill and polishing mops on .... -
Towbar and exhaust fitted, started to do the flocking on the interior, also got the wheels detailed, I was thinking of masking them up and airbrushing the centre black trim, but in the end I picked them out using a fine brush and Tamiya flat black acrylic

Ah, VW Brazil Brown Metallic ..... Looking forward to seeing you build this one, I'll be along as soon as I've ordered the paint for mine
-
Spent a good few hours in the hobby room today, got the seats finished, the side door panels were airbrushed using Testors leather, still needs masking to paint the door handles etc ... I was pretty happy with the masking on the side panels.

Still quite a bit to do on the Trabbi, I'm making a list at the moment for all the paints I need to order in .....
-
Very nice build, I've got some Ruby red to paint my next Tamiya Beetle ...

Cheer's Shay ..... Been doing a little bit of the Trabbi over the last few days, a lot of time goes into masking, good ole Tamiya tape to the rescue, the seats will need masking again once the paint has dried so the head restraint can be painted matt black ... The front & rear seats are actually the same colour, the camera doesn't want to record them as such, the colour is more like the front seats .... The fuel tank was airbrushed in gloss black lacquer and the fuel caps was picked out using aluminium BMF

That's what I do when I have a jar or bottle of paint that doesn't want to be opened, works all the time.

Same for me, nothing there for me to spend my money on from Revell this year, but I do have my Renault 4 GTL on pre order from Heller and I no doubt be buying a case load of Citroen DS19's from Ebbro, looks like I won't be buying too many models this year ........ But we do have the German toy fair coming up at the end of the month, so there might be something of interest announced at the show ......

Luckily the part arrived from Revell U.K a few days ago, already got it primed and finished in satin black, now the work can commence on the chassis in the next day or so, I've only had to contact Revell a hand full of times, and every time they have come through with the parts required ....

Managed to spend a little time in the hobby room yesterday, Both the front & rear bumpers need a bit of masking after they had been painted body colour, as the fog lamps are molded as part of the bumper, plus the end caps and overiders needed to be painted in satin black Once they had been airbrushed and the masking tape removed, they looked like this Heat exchanger painted, I really should have painted the parts first before glueing them together, as masking was a complete PITA ... Engine bay is looking a little more complete Front grill finished

Revell Germany new VW Golf (Rabbit for you guys)
GeeBee replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I wasn't sure if I was going to get any of these kits, out of the two I was more interested in the cabrio, and after having a good look at Shay's kit when we met up before Christmas, I have a couple on there way to me ... -
I had to look twice at this post, after all the years I have been wanting the DS modelled in 1/24th scale, and I'm so pleased it's Ebbro that's doing it, there doing some great stuff, I've bought 4 of there Renault 4 kits, (3 saloon's and 1 Fourgonnette), I'll be buying quite a few of these DS models. I built the Heller 1/16th model many years ago, my Dad bought it for a present as he knew how much I loved the DS, sadly that's another model that went missing in a house move, now I'll be able to build it again, this time in the regular scale of 1/24th, Will they release the Safari version in the future ??? I sure hope so
