Tested-Scratchbuilding with Adam Savage
Dentz replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Adam is the man. That looks so great. I watch all his vids. The ideas he provides have helped on many of my projects, not just model making. I will be making one of his LED flexi-lights soon. (oh, to have that shop at my disposal!) -
Just watched all the Cobras and E-types (and others) go at it, what a tilt! That is some seriously fun racing even though I choke up a little when I see one get crunched. The 3rd place finisher in a Lister 400 was something to see. Lost his back windscreen then a few laps later chucked the weather strip at a Cobra following him. Classic formula's up next!

Early '60's GM sedan nerds...help
Dentz replied to Dentz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That's sweet, the engine is just what I need. and a go kart too, nice! I like that truck and have a 409 out of the 62 belair kit ready to go in it. The Elky roof could be an option. A little tweaking and it could be a good fit. Thanx for the tips guys. -
Nice. wasn't ready for the brightness, I got a flash burn

yup, at least it's photogenic! A battle won.

Early '60's GM sedan nerds...help
Dentz replied to Dentz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
thanks guys. That engine looks much closer to what I need. It is a chevy truck engine that was used in the Can Ponchos, Cool kit too. I'll have to find one and do an engine trade. I'll probably build the roof. The cost of a resin body just to hack up, naw. easy enough to make. -
The Catalina in under glass has my fire lit to get into a project I parked a couple months ago. I'm turning a Mobius '61 Catalina into a '61 Canadian spec Strato Chief, 4 door. Does anyone know if there is a good kit out there with a good inline 6 and/or sedan roof. I have GM I-6 (out of a '53 Belair I believe) but it is all kinds of wrong and will need huge corrections. This will be a replica of a friends car and the engine is actually a chevy truck engine. 60's Canadian parts bin special. Also I am yet to come across a sedan roof. I can build one but if there is a kit with this style of roof I think cut n' paste might turn out better. Any ideas? Some pics of the car. it had a hefty rustoleum paint job on it. Will be original Fawn Beige when complete

Love it. Nice to see one put together in stock form. I always just see the race car version. Any more pics of the gold one? I'm currently building one as a replica of my friends car. major surgery required though. Turning it into a 4 door, X framed 61 Strato Chief with an inline 6. It's going to be over a year to build since I just pick away slowly at it between builds. This inspires!

Flower Power series and no beetle or van of any kind? I smell a corpo-rat lol. Hippies didn't drive or build models of cars for 'the man' like a T-bird 'vert. Hard to build a kit when yer in a muddy field listening to 45 min meandering guitar solos, whacked outta yer mind on hallucinogens.. Now that glue on the other hand.... -
More like.... HEEEEEY! I was not done smackin' that piece around that you need just yet! I just realized how much I love that shot and how dead my lawn is...rain is rare in town this year. I rescued this beautiful beast from the side of a highway on October 26th 2016 and he couldn't have been more than 6 weeks old, just a babe screaming next to a telephone pole.

The antenna will be replaced! Paint is Testors one coat lacquer, 1831mca Fiery Orange. all trim is BMF. Wheels and tires from AMT's '62 BelAir 409 kit. Just noticed the right exhaust pipe popped loose. I fix!

I have a few details to do (1/4 emblems, hoses, rear plate etc) but I had the chance for pics today so.....

I've had my fair share of kitty carnage on the work bench. Usually provoked by me for leaving fun things like wheels attached to axles n' stuff (hey, I like playing with em too... I get it). I have FOUR cats and they are just awesome. My wife and I luv em all but we have our favorites. This is my lil buddy Spar.......just a yawn n' stretch on a good day... Yup.

I like that it's on it's base. It represents the massive lower body cladding/ rust enabler panels that Pontiac got so liberal with in the late 80's right up until pretty much the end. Too bad it was before hybrids, that plug would have been basis for a lawsuit by Black n' Decker. I remember here in Windsor at the 'old barn,' home of the Spitfires hockey team, General Malaise Corp. had a Lumina unveiling featuring the coupe, sedan and van models with the great Bobby Orr as the spokesman. Got to meet him and get a signed 8x10 glossy. The only good thing a Lumina ever did...ever!

love that 'cuda. Wouldn't say anything is 'wrong' with it all. Barn Find written all over that bad Mopar! Builds like these are fun because you will always go back and mess with it. always a WIP but always good to go! Keep it up, I for one want to see more

Anyone Ever Built The Cannonball Countach Kit?
Dentz replied to oldcarfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I built the Cannonball kit many moons ago. I remember it not being too good and becoming firecracker fodder. IIRC it's the same as the Walter Wolfe kit. Totally incorrect as the Cball car The Monogram kit can turn out great with some serious surgery (check mine out in under glass) but ya, it's full of heavy mold seams and ill-fitting parts if it's built OOB -
That was done with a fresh silver sharpie. You can dry brush it too but with the same steadiness of hand and you will get the same result with the sharpie without having to do multiple passes. I have a few more on deck as well as a couple WIPS to show but they need a couple tweaks. just painted my '57 Chysler 300, yum! Don't wanna hog the board too much either. I will add a better interior pic soon. The tri-tone and umbrella make it one of my favorites.

Ah, one of my grail kits. the 288 GTO. I need to pony up the dough for a good one. If you do the Aperta top on the regular kit You just need to fill the 'double bubble' indentation on the roof bar as the aperta doesn't have that. I was considering striping it but I don't really like the striping on the Aperta. Also, I was happy with how the pearl turned out and didn't want to risk a redo on what is a pain in the butt body.
