Nostalgia Fuel Dragster--Blower Manifold (01/28/23)
Ian McLaren replied to Straightliner59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Daniel, the work you have done on the drivline is spectacular and your attention to detail is spot on. This thread is becoming a master class in building a current nostalgia front engine TF car and how to create details for almost any type of model. -
Kind of pleased on the progress on the intake, Fogger nozzles courtesy of Nick Bradshaw, prototype prints that did need some massaging ( first time printed in 1/12 and adjustment are being looked at) but the end result is just fine

Tim, it's good to see you back and you have my sincerest condolences. There are never the right words at a time like this but having lost both parents I can say that as time passes it does get easier. Be well my friend.

There has been quite a bit of discussion on the end look of the car, notibly the stripe color. I have an extra hood which is going to be stripped and cut open for a future blown alcohol drive train upgrade anyway so a quick test was run and the black stripes are here to stay.

Kind of a milestone, it's sitting on the suspensions, wheels and tires for the first time, it's a roller. Still a very long way to go

Volvo 242 drag car, my first build ever
Ian McLaren replied to Blueberry_no1's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Mattias for being new to modeling, you have certainly jumped into the deep end of the pool, and doing a good job I might add. The subject matter is great. I would expect that given where you live the Volvo is more or less the equivalent of the Nova as far a a starting point for a car like this. I will be watching this project with interest to see where you go with it and welcome to the hobby. -
Substancial upgrade to the wheel department on the Camaro. Again thanks to Jeff Faris. Now the front suspension can be designed and fabricated. Just another example of the Faris magic. Jeffs machining has be a major contributing factor in the sucess and realisum of most of my recent models and I am truly thankful for his help

1932 ford saltlake car
Ian McLaren replied to charlie libby's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
I wondered where you wandered of to, this is a great project (and quite a departure from the Camaro). I really like what you are doing, everything well thought out and of course the quality is off the charts. I'm so glad I finally found this thread I'll be a regular visitor from here on. -

Torsion bar in. links made and rough cut to length. Next is to mount the shocks and set ride height to allow cutting the links to their final length. Finish up the four bars and the wishbone has already been fitted earlier in the build. Just about ready to assemble and test the rear suspension as a compeleted assembly before detailing and final refinishing MVI_0014.MOV

Thank you Stephan for the kind words, it's comments like this that push me to stretch my limits to get the best result I can on each part. Hopefully the end product will reflect that.

Thanks Ron for your interest in this madness, it seems one thing just keeps leading to another and it looks like I have a ways to go yet. Your pickup is really starting to take shape, and yes I did borrow your control arm technique on the four link as RB Motion is still behind on their orders. I can wait for most of my order from them but the arms were starting to interfere with the overall progress.l I need to finish off cleaning up the ends and fine tune the lengths to get the pinion angle correct but it looks Ok in the mock up phase.

Progressing very nicely. -
Not really an update, just a comparison on how big this thing actually is.In the foreground is a 1/25 scale model of the Banzai BB/FC I built a few years ago, and on the window ledge are the largest 1/16 scale slicks Future Attractions makes.

Nostalgia Fuel Dragster--Blower Manifold (01/28/23)
Ian McLaren replied to Straightliner59's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Glad the repair worked out that well. Of the whole process I find that final assembly is my least favorite part of the process until it's done then ------ Happy Dance. -
The engine is really coming along nicely, well done.

More work on the fuel system, LPH1320 4500 series Dominators represented as Quick Fuel Conversions 1/12th scale, also Wilson intake being modified to dual stage Nitrous configuration

Great to see it as a roller, onward. -
Thank you so much Francis, it was a fun project but time and technology marches on. On my next project I'm hoping to dust off my drafting training and at the same time step up to 3D printing to add details that are more accurate. As I don't have the finances nor the skills to step into the world of machining my own parts I'll leave that to you, Tim , Charlie, and Paul and the other master machinists on this forum.
