  1. Francis you just keep raising the bar on this project. You said you hand finished the letters with a small file, How small?
  2. This is the chassis basically set out, only missing a couple of top cross braces but I need to start planning where the brackets and parts are going to go and when additional details have to be mounted
  3. Torsion bar tube and rear upper and lower hoops in, chassis is square and straight thanks to the jig I built this morning. All measurements checked from measurement taken from the real car, conversations with the owner , and close to 500 pictures from in period, current restored condition and during the restoration at Don Longs shop and others. The plan in the background I received from Roger Lee of a Woody RCE chassis from around the same time. I'm using it as a reference only confirm I'm on the right track. And the advantages of a large (30 INCH) monitor, I can take a photo and if I know the actual size of any one item IE upper frame rail, I can enlarge the image until that item is full size.. I can then measure most things that are in the picture as though the car was in my workroom to a reasonable amount of accuracy.
  4. Great progress on the steering shaft, waiting in anticipation of the next set of pictures.
  5. In so many of your pictures it's hard to tell if it's a real car or your model, simply tremendous.
  6. The 4 link suspension looks great!
  7. Sides have the main tubes and cross braces installed
  8. Jim this is a really good looking model, great job I like it a lot!
  9. Thanks for the vote of confidence Jim, I hope it's justified.
  10. Thanks for the kind words. Roger Lee is one of the more knowledgeable people we know, Bryan Hodges the owner of this car also has a lot of knowledge. My experience is more in the engine and drivetrain of these things and mostly with funny cars. That being said if I can be of assistance............
  11. Thanks Dave This is the next step from the Vega Panel New skills and materials and hopefully informative.
  12. New project, Canadian record holding Front engine Top Fuel Dragster, Being built for the owner as close to museum scale as my talents will allow. This is my first brass chassis car and will require custom body panels and a sizeable amount of scratch built parts. 215" Don Long Chassis, 392 Chrysler Hemi based engine, being modeled as it was raced as opposed to it's current configuration as a cackle car / nostalgia fuel car. I will be posting pictures of the build as well as pictures of the real car and it's restoration for reference. I hope you enjoy watching the progress and if there are any questions or comments please feel free to respond.
  13. Another great model in the making Marcos. You have excellent skills my friend!
  14. Color is on now, touchup and polishing, in preparation for the striping and pearl mid coat. The pearl that is being used is Murano Pearl powder left over from the original paint job on the real car 40 plus years ago. I'm going to have to be extremely careful with it as would easily overpower the base colors on the model (a very little goes a long way).
  15. The main reason is they are aluminum custom built for the car.
  16. Just had to get photo in sunshine, White is done now for the red graphics
  17. Thank you Tim Francis has way more parts to assemble than I do, his project as well as yours just amaze me. I have finished the body work and layed down the while base color and happily it came out pretty well. Letting it cure for a few days before color sanding and blocking it. I hope to start the Red graphics mid next week.
  18. It's not bad but it is of the later model, so I back dated it with the early engine configuration, rectangular windshields on both sides and the extended lower vertical fin. That was a personal choice, the quality and ease of assembly are good.
  19. Coming together nicely Marcos, first class workmanship. And like Claude I'm going to borrow your rod end solution as you have just solved a problem I was going to have with the steering shaft on the Royal Canadian Top Fuel Dragster, thank you!
  20. First coat of Tamiya Gunship Grey to see what it looks like and to spot areas that have to be repaired before the final coat. It gives the scale effect of black without hiding the detail and is also a lower gloss paint.
  21. As amazing it has been watching you produce all of the individual parts and their quality, it's not until seeing them come together to produce realism of this level that it becomes evident that " The whole is greater than the sum of its parts" Just incredible Francis
  22. It just keeps getting better and better. Well done Charlie
  23. Absolutely stunning workmanship it looks fantastic. Great job Marcos
  24. The chassis is basically completed with the exception of the belly pan and side tins. They are going to be installed last, once the body is final fitted with it's tin and all clearances are double checked. The finish on the tins is so fragile there can been no contact with the body tin. The next few updates will deal with the body, it's internal structures and tin parachute and roof mounted handle and the external paint job and hopefully decals by then. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.
  25. NSCA, Interesting concept and I would be in, but as Claude says there are no rules, except have fun doing it. With GSL winding down there is going to be a void though. On to more important things, the chassis is stunning and what you have mocked up looks great! This truck is going to have some serious attitude, Can't wait to see it done.
