Filling molded in sidemarkers
Bills72sj replied to gtx6970's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Make sprue goo. A small amount of MEK in a tin. Feed thin sprue rods until it is gooey. Fill in the whole area, one at a time, while horizontal. Sand flat after it cures. Since it is styrene it will sand just like styrene AND will not shrink back over time like putty can. -

I have most of my collection (about 300 kits) from ebay. I had minor issues with what came but never lost money. I do not sell on ebay, (I don't need the money). PayPal since day one. Isolates you CC info from sellers.

Very nice build.

Nowadays expanding storage space for you PC is pretty cheap. Hosting sites are somewhat risky as they change their access rules and/or go out of business. There is also metadata hidden in the photo file that can put semi personal data at risk such as location.

I like the direct file transfer for maximum resolution. I no longer downsize the file as today's digital bandwidth is much improved over the days of dial up.

Masking for two tone paint
Bills72sj replied to rossfox's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would BMF with burnishing with a round toothpick. Then some help from some 1/16" vinyl tape. It will help keep your blade on the straight and narrow. -
I only take pics with my iPhone. A USB cable to my PC allows me to cut and paste them into a folder of my choosing. I have 5 different photo manipulating programs but basically I only really use the crop feature. Occasionally, I may do some color correcting or contrast touches.

Masking for two tone paint
Bills72sj replied to rossfox's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That is my go to as well. It NEVER leaves residue. It is superior in stopping bleed under such as panel lines. I can be left on for MONTHS with no ill effects. The tricky part is using it for straight lines or curves. For accomplishing that, I use 1/16" vinyl tape as an edge guide over the top of the Parafilm. I trim along its edge with a NEW hobby knife and use the thin line tape to remove the unwanted portion. Parafilm also has the benefit of being able be "fudged" into place with a toothpick for very precise placement. -
Very nice. I love the clean lines of that body.

Moebius 1964 Mercury Comet Pro Touring
Bills72sj replied to Justin Porter's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
To me the Comet is kind of "Stodgy". But with the Pro Touring bits. I am in. -
Well done on a rarely seen subject. Kudos.

Farrari "Testa Rossa" head wrinkle paint help

You could experiment with some Rust-oleum textured spray paint. I used it for the deck of my race car hauler. -
Do you make notes/memory aids as you build?
Bills72sj replied to Mattblack's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I do not use notes much. Once I have a vision it sticks in my head. When I do "Batch" builds of similar subjects, I will sometimes make a note of what color, engine or wheels I plan on using. When parts are in hand, I tend to put the desired, additional parts in the box and that generally covers it. Where I do use notes is when I have a unbuilt kit I am robbing parts from (Particularly semis). I keep a list of the missing parts so as to not waste time looking for something that is already missing. -
Very nice craftsmanship. I like it.

I would just make them yourself. Water slide decal paper is cheap. There is a ton of artwork and photos all over the internet. An online catalog that sells 1:1 Cadillac emblems would be best. The tricky part is color. Silver or chrome are not available for us inkjeters but you could experiment with decaling black (or body color) over BMF and applying the decal on that. It is best to start with the largest high res file you can find then reducing PRINT size (not file size) to keep the resolution crisp.

I converted a Revell 69 Mach 1 to a Boss 429. It fit fine. When I put a 427 Cammer in a 67 GT, The shock towers were almost completely removed.

Those are WICKED! Well done! Any more pics?

Nice job scuffing the slicks. They look like they have actually touched pavement.

I shall be contrarian here, I put both BMF and decals directly on paint then clear coat. I changed to this method after a batch of BMF having some poor adhesive. It got annoying to trim something perfectly just to have the ends flip up at the slightest touch. Never had a problem since. I also have not experienced the yellowing described by others. Then again my oldest build with BMF is circa 2006.

That looks fantastic! My 1st car was a 68 Malibu. I totaled it less than 2 weeks after I got it. I pulled in front of a dark blue car driving at night with his lights off.
