34 Church Truck
AmericanMuscleFan replied to OldNYJim's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Another super cool project in the making Jim! I love these custom made wheels cap and those super cool tail lights, beautiful vehicle for the priest! Are you going to add the pretty embossing shapes on the sides of the bed as on the rendering? -

Great start on your '56 F100 Ron! I like the fact that you are using some aluminum on your project, nothing can replicate metal better than real metal (even soft metal...). I use a lot of aluminum and brass in my builds so I have a bias... You obviously have good attention to detail and it's already visible on your build. I saw from your profile picture that you have been a member since 2013, I appreciate that you decided to jump into the arena and share your talents with us, better late than never! Your 1: 1 truck is fantastic by the way, the color is just stunning and you can't go wrong with tan leather interior!!! ? -

Great job on the bellhousing, the sandblasted finish is just perfect for this part. Keep doing the good job Charlie! -
The Mercury looks very good Steve! I love the color and your trademark stance (Loooooooow)! Modelhaus was renowned for their unusual rare kits, it's sad they had to end production but all good things come to an end, so you have to appreciate them even more when you see one completed in such a beautiful way! Tasteful!!! ?

Great build Ismo! I love these little Dodge/Plymouth bodies and you did a great job from bumper to bumper! I also scratchbuilt one as bracket drag racer so I know all the work necessary to make one. Yours looks mean and fast!!!!!!!!!!! ?

Thanks Scott, I really appreciate your comments my friend! The suspension was not easy to photograph with all parts of the frame in the field of view but I am quite happy with it! It works perfectly and that was a very important point for me, it was something that I always wanted to achieve! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Bob! Yes, I made the shocks myself, RB Motion offers some very nice ones but I made my own to meet my exact needs, I didn't want to compromise on the height of my suspension. You can see them on page 3 of the thread, I ended up not using the bottom extensions since I repositioned the top anchors from the start of the build. They are not too difficult to do and work like a charm! Take care, Francis -

Hey Lorne, thanks for the kind words my friend! Your pickup looks absolutely awesome buddy! Can't wait to see mine finished... but I have already been told not to be too impatient because time flies too quickly, you have to appreciate the present time! The tires are from a die-cast kit I think (maybe a Danbury Mint) I got them about 10 years ago with a cheap resin body I bought on eBay. It was a scrapped project that someone had auctioned off and I got them for a few bucks, they're made of some kind of solid rubber and they're the nicest tires I've ever seen. Hope to keep you entertained until the end my friend! Take care, Francis -

Thanks for the kind comments Trevor, I really appreciate them! Sorry for the long delay to reply but I was at work (12 hours shifts) for the last 3 days so no time available to go on the internet... Soft metal like aluminum and brass are great for creating realistic details but require a lot of sanding and polishing to make them plausible so to speak. I really like anodized parts, the look and finish is hard to beat and brings this ocean of aluminum/brass parts a little bit of life. Take care, Francis -

WOW Charlie, this is serious work my friend! I love these carburetors and the tunnel ram looks very promising too! What did you used for the bellhousing, it looks like some Renshape or it's because the part has been painted? -

The Hornet looks great Roger, another rare styrene body rescued! The white paint will help not reveal some minor flaws that may remain, but it will look great I'm sure. Can't wait to see it with all the decals applied. -

Thanks for your kind comments Brad! It's sad that my short video was not in the right format to download, you could have seen it working. Maybe one day I can take part in a scale model show somewhere in the US. I know my friend Claude will definitely do it someday so maybe I can join him on the trip... I will see! Take care, Francis -

Thanks Daniel! Yes I do have an American Beauty resistance welding unit. It's fairly new to me (bought it probably 1 or 2 years ago) and I'm still learning how to master it but I'm pretty happy with the results so far. Take care, Francis -

Thanks Anton, I'm quite happy with this despite the number of modifications made so far! I still have the transmission support to do... I keep my fingers crossed for the steering/suspension fit at the front. Take care, Francis -

Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay I was supposed to post those pics yesterday but I had a small setback or unforeseen when mounting the rear suspension. I decided to add a rod between the rear shock mounts for added stiffness but the Dana cover was a bit too thick so I had to make another one in order to get the proper clearance. There are a lot of pictures with the wishbone that was made last week, the new Dana cover, pictures of the suspension installed temporarily. I made a little video to show that everything is functional but it seem that the format is not supported by the site. This video is a first for me and it's not very clear, it was done with my Nikon Coolpix and I will have to make some other tests to get better results. I wll try to find the right format and make the conversion if I can. If it works, I will upload it later (sorry for the inconvenience). Hope you like the photos as much as I had fun (in every sense of the word) doing these things... More to come, I am now back on this build with more free time as I enter 'build season'. Comments and suggestions are welcome!
