I’m not really sure what they are called but they come in all shapes and the ideas are endless. I’ve seen pictures and even an episode of Full Custom Garage where they take remnants of older cars ,that they narrow , shorten and chop into a kind of Highboy , “T” bucket , Silhouette almost a Roth style custom, so I picked up Flintstones resin 65 Lincoln , and I located most of the parts I need to start. I started by cutting off the front clip and got the rear wheel openings to match. Chassis is from an old Ala Kart, everything else is mostly Revell stuff.

Nice and clean, front grille red letters look great. -
Being on vacation allowed me to get this one done pretty quick. The black paint was Testors top coat clear coat black... I dont remember ever trying this paint , parts were small so I didnt have to airbrush anything. Clear coat was a dull coat since I changed all the windows to red and everything else was chrome delete and dull..shiny didnt matter. All wood tones was done with Vallejo acrylics. All other paint is Humbrol Chassis/most of the motor/bed rails/interior/grille: LiL Gasser Cab: LiL Mixer Boom: Monogram Hangman Rear light bar and spot light and a few chassis parts : LiL Yeller Tire/Wheel combo: Flintstone resin Wax thread: craft store All other parts came from tbe parts box.

I could not find the plastic hang mans kit rope or coil of rope, so off to the craft store for some waxed thread in rope color. Bed pretty much done. -

All the cutting and test fitting are done, final mock up before deciding on which way to paint it. Shiney, dull, rat, or shiney with old. -

As it always happens things went another direction..? but I like this better. Flintstone resin tires..duals on the rear instead of 4 slicks and mags. -
A quick mock-up after gathering up parts and scratching out a few. This one us really being done "as we go" All the red parts are from a beater AMT LiL Gasser. The grey parts are AMT LiL Mixer. The lighting and roof lights are from AMT LiL Yeller bus rod. Engine is part AMT Lil Gasser and part Monogram Paddywagon. Front axle is parts box. Most chrome has been removed except front axle and wheels, and that could change direction, not sure yet about tires/wheels. Boom is from the Monogram Hangman. Had to make one suspension beam and a top for the bed.

Bare metal foil work is probably in the top 2 of things I dont like doing in modeling. Never attempt foil when your aggravated. Your Hudson is going to look sharp when done. I color the tip of my x acto blade with black marker.

This old resin Lincoln is not perfect but it’s going in the case . AMT 49 Merc was donor for most parts, 50 Ford rear bumper. Hubcaps, mirror, spot light, and red /clear lights are parts box. Tires are R/M 55 Chevy convertible. Front, rear and side glass are cut from clear sheet plastic. Body paint is Tamiya TS 11 (Maroon)and interior is Tamiya AS 22 (Flat tan )all other accent colors are Humbrol. After all the work I did on the hood so it would fit , I decided on a curbside build. Bare metal foil and some Molotow pen on the chrome .

Thanks Eric, Tamiya TS 11

That's a fact, when this came down the road I'm very sure it was noticed. Doing the bright work this weekend, bare metal foil and cheating some with a Molotow pen.

Can we see your model stash?

Anything model related is in my Fotki, link on my "sig line" . -
I got some color on this week and not looking forward to all the chrome ,but I got this far whats a little more anguish..?. Body color is Tamiya Maroon and the interior is dark tan and not sure on the accent color but tested the waters with a cream color. The body has more time to cure before the clear and chrome foil so the engine , chassis and interior are up next. The dashboard is a modified 49 Mercury dash.

1958 Pontiac Delivery conversion from convertible
BIGTRUCK replied to 59-Desoto's topic in WIP: Model Cars
You really got an eye catcher there. I like it. -
I wanted a roof visor and the closest one came off the Moebius Hudson, and I had to narrow that some to get it to fit. Made a rear bumper bracket to accept the 49 Mercury rear bumper, it has the bumper guards I wanted. Drilled 2 holes and plated them for twin antennas. Its slow going and resin is not forgiving if you make a mistake.?

I got this right from Dean Milano to post here, he couldn’t sign in to post himself. For some reason, it won't let me sign in to the page. You can post this if you like, and tell them if came from me: The only test shot I remember us running at Revell was the '62 Chrysler Newport, which looked good- except for the problems with the tires and the missing clear tree. We came close to reissuing it as an SSP and I'm not sure why we didn't. Probably a matter of having to invest in new parts for a kit that might not be a big seller. But from what I remember, that was the only tool that was considered. I don't know what shape the others were in or if they still existed. And the '62 Dart of course became the Revellion, which was already mentioned here.

Tom I know what you mean, I missed out on two other ones when I went back, but I do have a nice old late 40s Plymouth out of the bin.
-
Finding hubcaps that looked right was actually the hard part once I figured out tires. But your right , big w/w work with those big fenders.
-
Trying to get the stance on this boat to look right is an entire new set of problems. I got the spindles where I want them and have 2 tire choices . Left tire is from the Monogram 55 Chevy bel air convertible. Set #2 on the right from the Revell 48 Ford custom are slightly taller and have a wider whitewall. The rear is only set where I liked it to be .To accomplish that I need to cut into the frame , build some pockets on the topside for the leaf springs to snuggle into. The front part of the spring will be under the rear seat, the rear part of the spring will be in the trunk. I came close to cutting the front bumper out and using the custom ones from the 48 Ford, but I like those bumper guards on the Lincoln.
