Snuck one last built in .It was started a few times and was put back in the box and almost happened again this time but I held my ground. The nose just fought me all the way.., it wanted to stray off cocked one way or another. I added new pins twice , this is where its staying, I know its old tooling so I let all issues of body fit fade into darkness and got it done. Skinny old school slicks were added and removed all chrome except front rims. Amber glass replaced clear glass except windshield. Decals were Gofer and paint is Tamiya racing white TS 7. Interior was nothing fancy just kit parts.

I had the decals for U.S. Border and Customs and a Revell 2005 Impala police vehicle so I thought one easy build to complete the year, but no....I was out of white paint and could not find Tamiya TS 26 ( pure white) any place, all my outlets for paint were out of stock on only what I needed .Racing white (TS 7) was not going to work. I found some pure white on ebay but shipping was as much as the paint ,so I sprayed matte white (TS27) and gloss coated. Simple snap kit that builds up nice with some detailing. The black rub strips on the sides and bumpers are next. Decals are by Gofer.

AMT 1960 Ford ramp truck
BIGTRUCK replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Yes ...but only when the plan actually works.? Like many others on this board and in the hobby, there’s a lot of enjoyment saving an old tired model even tho’ we are the only ones that knew what it involved besides glue and some paint. -

Looks great. -
Well here goes? Straighten roof chop and install roof....fill in deep grooves where someone sanded on the doors...bring back door opening lines...locate a hood (resin)...I left the front end (grille/bumper) just the way I got it from a good friend...make front and rear glass...modify car interior to fit the truck...make the rear ramp bed...find a frame and extend to fit the cab and body...get dually tires to work...make door handles out of evergreen plastic...dig through parts boxes constantly.....put together than take it apart more than once...primer,paint and dullcoat, add a few decals and vow to only do easy stuff from now on..?

Ford T 1914 Firetruck
BIGTRUCK replied to harti20's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Very nice work, I also have this kit. I have been waiting on getting the 2 firemen ICM offers first before building. I also like that you left the tires white. -
Now thats different, that and the execution make it eye-catching. Nice work.

Rounding the corner on this one, its was one for the books for sure. This is the final color after a mist of dull-coat. The interior is done , the dash had to be mounted in the cab ,it holds in the bottom edge of the front glass. Once the engine is finished, then all the details for the bed and cab will get installed, I will still have to carve out exterior door handles, and add few decals. E Z...P Z...? -
AMT 1960 Ford ramp truck
BIGTRUCK replied to BIGTRUCK's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks for all the great comments. Now onto this out of control build. This truck started out as a hauler for an old circle track Valiant , dirty ,maybe some rust, faded paint, but somehow it has a mind of its own and sprouting into some thing else. I added more side bins, and custom tail lights. Made up the 2 pc driveshaft and center bearing , fit in a small V8. The interior needs more work ,it should have been a simple interior but ?.....and Im stuck on the bed color being all red and should the entire truck have a dull finish like the Valiant that will be on the back. -

I made a few changes on the fly, one of them being the location of the ramp bed, at first it was to be back more with tool bins behind the cab. The rear overhang looked awkward so I made some bin doors and covered the wheel openings (you can see the old wheel openings in one of the bed photos) and moved the bed forward, then added a dual rear tire set up. The ramp bed is totally made from evergreen plastic except the ramps , plus slight alterations to the rear frame for a snug fit. Changed tires to wide whites and cut out a windshield from clear plastic, cut up an old interior tub to use that fits alot better. Still pondering the engine 60s era V8 or flathead V8. Chrome mirrors , lights and other chrome items soaking to remove the chrome. -

Now back to this hauler . Stretched the frame 2 -13/16 real inches, scale inches ? The black frame is for comparison to show the stretch.. crossmembers in , its squared , so on to the back section. -
When you combine a 1962 AMT Valiant with a AMT Nascar Monte Carlo , let the chopping begin. I had to chop the chassis into sections to use where needed, opening the hood and getting it to fit because of its thickness and engine being there plus fitting in a grille likeness. The rollbars , dash and seat was another issue because if the transmission location, so I had to cobble up tunnel then build the inside around it. A small thin sheet if tin was used to make a rear interior area cover. Tamiya paint and Tamiya weathering along with Vallejo tints and plenty of parts box items .

Rounding the bend on this Valiant. I toned down the gloss and got all the parts fitted and ready to join them up. Side crash bars need to be in towards the body more and Im thinking maybe redo the front bar with just a 1pc pipe style crash bar. I will add some light dust and light grime on the body and chassis when its done. At least the hood came out fine?.. -
Some really neat things going on here. Great stuff.

I did this with the Revell/ Monogram Chevy also,I had the body and frame, the rest was parts box. On this Valiant I was going for the look of this internet picture ( I found on StiffSpeed ) when done the shine will get toned down a bunch. -

Im tired of trying to get the body a little smoother but this is going to be as good as its going to be The paint is cured and time to move to the interior -

Thats a rough one for sure Tom, but glad you found a way to give it another chance. I knew stuffing all these modern parts in this body was going to be a challenge, maybe trim here or there but this is puzzle fit at best. The last challenge will be the headers and pipes. Im testing interior pieces for fit, older items will take the place of the modern stuff. Front bumper is scratched out except the ends, they are Pinto or Vega modified parts and the rear and side bars trimmed to fit are too .Grille will just be a cut out shape with screen. -
I hope all goes well.

Fits nice, if you check the 3rd picture you can see the 53 fender splash mates up with the 60 inner fender really nicely. Nothing was modded to fit, it just fits.
