Thanks, Tim. I really appreciate the feedback. I always wanted to do the Stroppe version of Rex's 63 Mercury but could never find a 63 merc kit. So I finally decided to take a 64 kit and morph it into a 63. I just had to change the grille and the rear taillight panel. If I ever get the wip links fixed you can see how I did it.
Thanks Jed. I had to make those decals because at the time there were no aftermarket decals for Rex's version of the black widow. I think there might be a sheet that covers every car on the sedco team, but don't quote me on that.
Here is his black widow. I built this before they came out with the black widow kit. I had to transform an amt 57 chevy hardtop into a 2 door sedan. If I had known they were going to come out with the kit I would have waited. First I thought I cant post this here and then I remembered you cant hijack your own thread.
Jed, I like his chevies better too, but I was trying to build all the cars he drove in his career, and that was the next to last one he drove in his Grand National career. I built his Black Widow. I will try to post it if I can find it.
Thanks Rob. I remember what happened now. Postimage changed their address after I posted the original pictures so the links don't work anymore. They also don't work on the wip but I am trying to fix those just for my own info in the future if I want to see how I built it.
Excellent , Excellent job , Tony. This one has been on my to do list for many years. In your research on the car did you ever find why they put the orange sphere on the trunk? I've always wondered about that.
Great job, Bruce. I'm glad you didn't use the way oversized tires that some people have used on their builds of this car.
just didn't happen that way back then.
Excellent job, John. That's not a car you will see everyday in nascar livery. Some how the 66 was very popular and then the 67 was skipped over till the monte carlo started being used in the early seventys. By competitive teams. That's cup of course . Yours is very believable as a sportsman. Your same high standards for build , paint and cleanliness of build was already evident 25 years ago.
Awesome job on the paint and decals. Sits nicely too. Sometimes if I cant get a hood to flush up I will shave the carb down a bit or just remove it completely. Truly another great one from your bench.
Rob, I'm not sure I see a flub of the roof painting. I don't think I would have noticed anything if you hadn't mentioned it.. Great job on this build too.
No its not just you. You do excellent work. If a part doesn't fit it doesn't fit. My model king 74 Malibu Darrel Waltrip Chevelle had really bad fit issues on the nose and I never did get it right. So I just ended up gluing the hood shut to try to make it look half decent.
I wonder if they mastered it off of a diecast car. I know my diecast nascar modern 1/24 scale cars are bigger than my modern 1/24 scale revell snap kit cars.
