Western Star 4900 FA plow truck
Biggu replied to BK9300's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The snow plow / sanding world became a much warmer place when “live hydraulics” were introduced. With the old system there was no immediate lifting of the plow in an emergency. But if you cheated the ‘rules’ you could get around that. This generation has it good. This is looking really good Brian. -
Kenworth aerodyne cabover

You guys get stuff in ‘days’????? Wow. Thats fast …. My stuff is never here in less than three weeks or usually a month …. Huh🤔 -
Beautiful. What attracts me to this build is red over white rather than the usual white over red. The white cab, hood & sleeper combined with the red frame and the 5 hole budds really make this sing…. Clean, smart and sharp looking truck. IF I ever build another Watkins truck I will paint it like yours. Very eye catching and very period correct. Good job on this one , Lee

That color combo is really sweet ! Looks period correct. Even the green grille doesn’t look out of place, green or chrome either would be excellent. This is going to be a cracker !! Keep going , you’re over coming the bumps ….. -

Ron,,, I used the Humbrol gloss green enamel on my Hayes conversion…. You are so right the paint takes days to dry, it took so long I actually thought I had used the wrong thinner, but alas it did dry and is beautiful paint ……. Now let’s discuss those little tinlets 🤬🤬……….. looking forward to seeing how the paint comes out. ….. -
That looks really cool. ! Really like this as it looks like a strong powerful truck

Don’t sell yourself short, pal, this is very unique and will come together beautifully. Takes a lot of talent to do these conversions. It is a very interesting rare subject. I will be checking in for updates. …. I’m in the front row. -

Wow Ron!!! This is just a bit cool!!!! I am in for this. What a cool build this will be. Autocar built some very stout trucks and this one is no different. I am excited to see what you do with this. I miss AITM too. -
Scored on Ebay for a good price

This will be a cool build. I know CTM makes a real good photo etch upgrade set and well worth the money, just in case you really want to kick it up a notch. I will watch with great interest. -
NOW you tell me ! 🤣🤣 I never actually thought of that, and yes I am going to have to paint them white. I got focused on the fact that I am going to prime it with Tamiya grey primer then paint it and the whole kit actually in a more realistic yellow. But , yes there is a LOT of yellow plastic. Thanks for noticing the filters. Something that seems quite visible to me but not included with the kit …… thanks Steve

You DO! But I was thinking I might be going a bit far with all the bolts. 🫣🤭

OUTSTANDING detail ! -
I wasn’t going to post this but my buddy Ronald said, “no pictures, it didn’t happen” …… oh but it did…. Added some VERY small bolts to a pulley cover and completed a couple clamps on the pipe as well as scratched a couple filters , plumbing to follow….
-
GREAT Fab work, Steve, the little details are going to make this one shine !
-
Thanks JM ! Those Meng bolts are actually quite easy to use and yes some are really small but they do sharpen up what can be soft detail. A guy could go crazy with them but restraint seems to be the word of the week🤭

Looks like my buddy Ron, is building his 350!at lightning speed and I had better keep up ……. So as Ron is doing, I also am adding some small details I’m hoping may show up under paint…. I thought the molded bolts on the air cleaner hold down straps were a bit weak , so I changed that, added the Meng bolts before and after pics, transmission and what I perceive to be the torque converter , then the water pump and then the belt pulleys and then lastly the hydraulic pump and one large engine mount bolt
