The Same but “ a little “ Different
Biggu replied to Biggu's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Well……… after tearing the hinges apart three times and a major over haul of the shift tower and shifter plate, I got things to work in my favor …. And after a few more hours at the bench I can say that she is finally done and I am quite pleased at how she came out in the end, it is a very cool addition to my collection. I will post it under glass shortly. -

In my four weak eyes the ‘only’ thing that would make this truck look bigger and stronger is a set of floats …. Personally, and it is ONLY my opinion, but with the sleeper and those really cool single head lights it is a full package. Very well thought out. -

That looks REALLY cool JM !!!! I LOVE the look ! Excellent execution. The tool boxes are a very nice touch. Also did you make the single head lights? Those are really sweet. Makes the truck look really tough. Awesome job on this one … -

Thanks JM , but it still isn’t fixed… I’m on my third ‘tear down’ I don’t know how much more the hinges will take as they are but I may have gone as far as I can or want to ….. IF this last effort works, I will be a happy boy…… and hopefully it will look ok. ………… to be continued …….. -

Exactly , it is ‘modelling’ rather than ‘assembling’ …. As frustrating as these things can be , when they are rectified, and all works as it is supposed ton, there is a satisfying feeling, and yes absolutely makes one a much better modeller, challenges are always good. …. Besides ….. it’s just plastic …🤭🤣 -

Good to know …. Wonder why that is the bug bear of the cab over kits? I built the Ertl kits way back when they first came out and recall the fit and finish was really nice ….. -

I think if you make a tridem pup tanker trailer to sit behind this it would be super cool….. there is a set up like that, goes by my house at least once a week to refuel a local ferry … talk about a mega Beer Keg! -

Thanks Lee , it is the only thing I can think of and it must be that as the cab sits high on the side by a fairly wide margin. I think if I really bring the tower down no one will know ( other than the whole world who reads this !) and if I ever lift the cab , everything will still be there. It will be on my shelf and in actuality, I’m not likely to lift the cab much anyway. …… 🤔 -

This is turning out to be a really cool build, the tank idea is spot on and changes the look of this truck completely , I really like this. Keep going JM …! -

Jurgen, Steve and Lee. Thanks for the vote of confidence … I re- read Sean’s post and after another try last night, just before I tossed it in to the can ,,,,, I stopped and left it and figure the culprit is the shifting tower is too tall, and will adopt a variation of Sean’s solution. I had forgotten about this particular issue as the last one of these I built was well over 40 years ago, so the plan is to lower the shifting tower and maybe narrow up and shorten the shifting plate a little bit ……… I’m thinking that should hopefully solve the issue…….. that’s my plan as it stands …. -

Thanks Sean. Trust me the pipes don’t look that bad in real life…. 😉😳 and thanks for the tip. I may have to use that. It is a good idea. I think the hinges are ok for as much as I will be lifting the cab and your approach is really one I need to try. And it was a very puckering moment to remove those hinges and I was really careful. I hope I have the issue solved. If not I will have to ask the experts … thanks for checking in and your comments , I always learn things here… -

If this doesn’t work mine may be the same. ….and I’m not a real fan of cab overs as it goes anyway as a rule …. This one is a bit different and a homage to my late mom …. And I took my Class 1 drivers test on a 63 Kenworth K 100 250 Cummins 13 speed. Had to parallel park it with a 40ft trailer ! Guess I did ok. Passed and bace bad my Class 1 for 45 years..
