I don’t really think the doors need much if any sanding. In real life they appear to be really smooth, maybe a lousy oic from my phone. A shot of primer and a light sand should do the trick I would think. One door is flat the other has a definition . The stacks are glass smooth as is the tool box.

Maybe we need a section like this in the big truck thread….? Today my order came from 3D Concepts here in Canada. This is a fairly new company and they have some cool stuff for us truck guys. All I can say is WOW. Really nice products. Super smooth and very detailed. I ordered 2 sets of their exhaust tips and I was really impressed with the included styles and precision of printing and all the pipes are hollow which is really cool. I have one of the sets picked out for my Hayes conversion. i also ordered two styles of headache racks. One standard highway tractor and the other could and is used for heavy haul tractors. They are FANTASTIC! The rack includes chain hangers and mud flaps and the flaps are soft like real rubber! Outstanding pieces and will most definitely add super great realism to any truck build, I can't wait to use one. And then there is a tool box that could be used on a trailer or tractor. Another beautiful smooth sharp print. I also acquired a couple different styles of chain hangers that are of the same high quality and are finely printed. I placed my order and their communication was great and a few days later I got an email from Michael saying my order was being shipped the next day , last Friday and the order arrived today, Monday . So I can honestly say this is the fastest service I have EVER had. The packing was EXCELLENT as well........... Just for the record, I am in no way affiliated or have been paid in anyway from 3d Concepts, I just thought their product, communication and service deserved a huge shout out and maybe some of you guys may consider looking them up and help keep them in business. Sounds like they have some good ideas ahead. I’m looking forward to what comes next …

Farm Floater Truck 1/24th scale
Biggu replied to Randy D's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
MIND BLOWING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You and Brian should have your own section on SUPER DETAILING ! The shifter and transmission lines are perfect, what wire do you use ? Clearly I'm using the wrong stuff... the engine and the transmission , should be on a stand beside the truck... or at least on a chain and hoist, pretending to install into the truck, it is WAY too good and WAY too much detail to hide between the frame rails under a hood ! Randy, this is absolutely into another class of detailed build, I am in awe.... take a bow ! That update was well worth waiting for.... man you guys sure do keep raising the bar.... I won't be able to reach ..... fantastic... Jeff -

Rivets is something I haven’t looked into…. I think Meng only has the bolts, but I am happy to be proven wrong, but I think the rivets can be purchased from Archer, but they are fairly pricey and are resin decals rather than individual. Someone prove me wrong please. -
1/32 Freightliner cabover
Biggu replied to Rockford's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice work ,Steve…… hard to believe this is 1/32 scale …. And I’m with you all the way, old iron has the character some of this new cookie cutter units don’t have today……. All plastic, and automatics..? the old iron, no nice high back air ride seats ( that’s why my back hurts ) some had arm strong steering ( manual steering ) , no a/c, two sticks, lousy wipers, mediocre heater, heavy springs or the dreaded rubber block suspension, …. But they had character and you could tell each one apart from the other …. Not so today. They all look a lot alike these days. Your “Freight-shaker” is coming along famously and will be an excellent addition to hour collection and a homage to the old days …. Love what you’re doing with this one…… looking forward to the next update….. Jeff -

If I had a real Pete
Biggu replied to Biggu's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Awe, Randy, you make me blush … holy that is a nice thing to say. It was a fun quick build but there were a couple things that fought me, the biggest thing that nearly had this build flying into the bin was the roof of the sleeper????holy that thing was a test, but I finally got it, but I’m not happy about it. Thank you for checking it out and the kind words. Very encouraging …. -

I thought you guys would be better with a drawing than technical written works ..???????????….. and feel free to copy anything you see if it can be of any use or help. I will look forward to hearing from you anytime, Randy. I just hope I can be useful to your build. Thanks for checking in on this build…… -
The Same but “ a little “ Different
Biggu replied to Biggu's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That’s what I was thinking and that was the direction I’m thinking of taking. When the engine is held in place ‘under’ the mount, does look better and a clean fit. I also believe the instructions are trying to say that ……. Thanks for your thoughts, Gary -
Beautiful. Love the color combo ! Jeff

The Same but “ a little “ Different
Biggu replied to Biggu's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Ok ….. I think I know what I’m going to do here, but want to just throw it out there for sale of conversation……I do know that ‘instructions’ are just some one else’s opinion …. And we aren’t supposed to look at the instructions, but occasionally we have to consult the paperwork to either confirm or deny a part placement. Now , with that said, the instructions not being as clear as they could be (I was going to use a big word like ‘ambiguous’ but I didn’t want to show off?????) the rear motor mount and placement of the engine/transmission……. Most of us ( me included ) would just set the engine on TOP of the molded in motor mounts on the frame….. BUT as I am on this bolt fetish at the moment, I set the engine on top of the mounts to have a look…..but I looked real close to the mounts on the engine and they appear to be very sharp on top… I then dry fitted the engine to the BOTTOM of the frame mounts and see that it looks to my old eyes, the fit looks to be where it should be affixed….. consulting the ‘instructions’ and it appears to me that the little arrow does infact point or could point to tje underside of the frame mounts………. I think that is how I am going to do it in the end as it looks a lot cleaner ……. Thoughts??? -

Thanks , Gary ….. brass eh? ?? I bet they are pricey tho eh? Sure would be good on some applications for sure. I had a devil of a time getting a ‘restock ‘ of Meng bolts. And finally found some and they took FOREVER to get here … -

The Same but “ a little “ Different
Biggu replied to Biggu's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
So… all that stuff that hangs on the frame has to be attached somehow and none of it was welded or super glued on …… bolts are the order of the day, I spent a few minutes and added bolts to the ‘stuff’ that hangs on the frame…. Battery box, cab mounts, air tanks and shifting tower. Also finished bolting the shocks on …. I LOVE Meng bolts. ….. -

Nothing huge but a niggly thing that was bugging me. There was quite a gap, in the cab on the bed support plate where it was to meet the dog house and probably not seen once seats were in etc. but it looked somewhat wrong . So a little shim a tad of sanding and all fixed. Not a big deal but just a small detail. It is little things like the small repairs or adjustments that are required that is good bench time. To be well expected with these older kits. Not a massive scratch build or rocket science but a little more progress…. Pics taken during repairs -
Western Star 4900 FA plow truck
Biggu replied to BK9300's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I think it is pretty cool the university (BCIT?) is willing to print some things, I am assuming it is good classroom practise for them. It will be duck soup if they will print it for you ! Keep us posted on that project. Pretty cool. Your injury sounds like not a fun time. Hope it heals fast. Take it easy. -

Biggu replied to BK9300's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Sorry to hear of the injury, Brian. Hope it heals fast and well. That kind of sucks…… oh those controls. Man that brings back memories. The front yellow lock valve was truck dump box and the back one for the pup. The live hydraulics were great as we could raise both boxes at the same time. Is your underbody an extendable? The “ sander override” button on our trucks were set up so you cud hit that button and stop the spinner when you met cars but cud still put out sand with the chain still running but not breaking any windshields but still sanding. I liked that because it didn’t leave any ‘blank ‘ spots to catch someone unaware. I hope you get better really soon Brian as I will be seriously missing your regular updates. Take good care my friend… Jeff -

I agree with Jurgen and Gary , those colors just pop and are very sharp, and Jurgen is right , this is the start of the fleet. And a name that exudes high performance would be “ High Gear Haulers” UK Division. Lol … sharp rigs , I really like them…. Jeff -
Pete 352 day cab
Biggu replied to Jürgen M.'s topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
That turned out REALLY good ! Personally I really like the white and silver. Either way it will make a really unique unit. I have never seen a real life Pete 352 day cab. I wonder how many they made over the years? ??. I’m eagerly awaiting the next instalment and finished product …. You print your own decals too??? -

Thanks Brian. The valves are from pail at STSupplyco.com CTM 24230. Their stuff is really good as you know. The under can detail should be quite subtle under a coat of flat or semi gloss black. Won’t be much but it may break up the blah parts. Give those valves a go, you won’t be disappointed. Thanks for checking in …
