Excellent! I hope you do a head liner. I will be watching your build to see how it comes together. Glad to be of a little bit of service. I will look into that refill. I bought these off Amazon after mediocre success with Molitow. These seem to work ok , I’ happy with them

The height looks perfect as does the length. Do I see the beginnings of a power tailgate? That will tuck up real nice. Beautiful van box and I agree with Brian the wood floor will be sweet Jeff

I used a square of . 020 sheet styrene and took one of those cheap shop cloths, and watered down white glue, and soaked the paper towel, and layed it on the sheet to really dry, did a light trim and Bazinga ! I think a shot of paint that will be the interior color will give the illusion of a headliner, not hugely visible, but when I look inside it may appear a little more finished..... I used the Molitow pen on some builds, but the refill bottle sounds possible too.... when you air brushed it... thinned or straight out of the bottle....?

I have been trying to convince him, .................... maybe we should all take up a 'petition' ..... so at the very least this magnificent build gets into a magazine........ if Brian won't we will.... nanananana

Thanks Gary, that's really great info.... I haven't had great luck with cans, and like I mentioned to Jurgen, maybe it was my operating skills or lack there of....

That's good to know, however it is frightfully expensive.... it does have nice results..... by looking at Gary's garage experiments, looks to me as black is the base for the good finishes, I bought some 'chrome' paint from Canadian tire and it is garbage, came out of the can like Spackle.... I was less than impressed, and it came out like opening a hose tap ! Although I see Gary got good results, maybe it was the operator? ( me ) ....

Another small thing is that I have noticed that some of the Hayes Clipper 100’s seem to have the 100 gallon fuel tank and it seems most just have a single large instead of the 2 smaller 50 gallon tanks as the Pete 352 shows. It is a bit difficult to be sure that there was only one 100 gallon fuel tank and not two as detailed information on these trucks is somewhat elusive. So I found, in my parts box a 45 year old Kenworth fuel tank . It needed to be disassembled, de-chromed, re-assembled ( sounds like a bug job, eh? LOL but only four easy pieces ) and then the molded in straps needed to be sanded off. I have some nice p/e straps I want to try and hopefully not making a hash out of. We will see…., next conundrum is….. re-chrome ( not really sure I want to do that), paint frame color, or paint silver like they did back in the day. This being a work truck, I’m leaning towards the paint is silver……any thoughts from you guys would be welcome food for thought. …

Not a huge update but enough to keep the thread alive. So, because the inside of the cab looks somewhat unsightly and sometimes just paint doesn’t really do a decent job, I made a ‘head liner’ , although not perfect but good enough to pass when installed and under a splash of paint. It will suffice as it is not a real glaring piece but will be visible if looking into the cab .

Perfect interior colors ! I like this. I have never had a 1/32 truck kit. I like where you’re going with this. Very interesting and its looking really good, can’t wait to see whats next ….. Jeff

I went to the Archer website and it looks to me that they are up and running as the header says Under New Management so I assumed things are operational but I know what happens when one ‘ assumes’ What size did you buy ? It is so hard to know what size things are when all a guy can do is look on line instead of holding the package in your hand…..

Not much really but a small supply of hydraulic hoses and air lines from Ted’s ….

Oh yeah , the ‘breaker bar’ with a four foot pipe, I recall helping the guys in the shop break those lose like that and yes bone jarring when they came loose. I also remember bouncing on the end of the pipe hoping it wouldn’t break loose and the pipe came off the breaker bar depositing Jeff flat on his buttocks on the shop floor! Oh yes , the ‘stud pilot’ set up. That system was a royal pain in the posterior. Lots of broken inner rims with that system. If they weren’t checked regularly. And 20 nuts per side rather than 10 as we have now. The hub pilot system, could break a lot of rims if the truck was continually overloaded. They would break the studs and mess up the hub. Saw that happen once …… ooooo the shop foreman was wild !! Glad it wasn’t me who did that ?

This just gets better and better. One thing that looks really cool , in the photos, your wall paper in the back has a cloud or something like that, at first glance it looks like smoke from the exhaust pipes !?? Your vision is coming together really well JM. I like this a lot ! Jeff

Something I notice here is the mix of rims. Chrome Budds on the steering axle and Daytons on the drivers, back in the day (locally) that showed a real work truck and a LOT of highway tractors had that exact set up. Weight reducing and looked cool. The Daytons were a good strong rim although one had to be careful on installing the rims to the hub. Make sure they were clean and straight when the rim was slid onto the hub so that when the wedges were installed the rim ran true. There was a trick to have that happen. Used to put a small piece of wood parallel to the tire and spin the wheel as one tightened each wedge gently in an ‘X’ pattern so that you cud see if the tire and rim was tracking true and straight. Sorry for the deviation , Steve. I love this project and am eagerly waiting for the next update. You are doing a great job transforming this into a great looking truck . Jeff

I will very carefully sand it, and in fact it is the area above most of the rivet detail... I'm looking into the Archer rivets actually for the ones I mess up.....it isn't a lot of sanding but certainly enough to mess that detail up for sure.... how are you coming along with your builds?
