AMT '65 Impala box art custom built with Revell kit
doorsovdoon replied to Can-Con's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That interior looks amazing. Very nice work. -
That's looking good. I love the style of these cars.
-
Not the look I'm going for but I always try out different wheels and custom parts on my builds as a bit of fun to see if anything suits and changes my mind. It looks cool but toy like at the same time, Lol.
-
Got the dashboard done. Most of the pictures I've seen of the Pinto's interior has a two spoke wheel so decided to use the one from my spares.
-
Made a heater blower motor and brake master cylinder. I might make a windscreen washer bottle and a couple other bits, but I'm thinking I'll have to make a pair of inner fenders if I want to put anything else under there.
-
I felt the front needed something more than just silver paint in the turn signal lights, so I made some tiny turn signal lenses... they really are tiny! Amazingly I didn't drop one on the floor while making them!

Carrying on with the fixes. I had to make a small filler piece between the interior tub and the hatch slam panel. I don't think AMT were expecting many builders to hinge the hatch and cut the glass, so they just left a big gap there cos you can't see it if the hatch is glued shut. I also made a front anti roll bar. I find putting this much work into a build I cant help but add more detail! Lol

Thanks guys. It's turned in to a fun little project.

Diolch yn fawr iawn. I had to look that up, I don't speak a word of Welsh! xD
-
Yes, it's definitely a colour combo of it's time, haha.
-
Got the hatch hinged and fitted. My first go at hinging a panel on a model kit! I got the tolerances of the hinge and clamp so close that it holds itself up with just the right amount of friction! The Ford lettering and Pinto badge was done with foil under paint and then polished back until the foil showed through, it's my best attempt with this method. There is a very smug Welshman on the forum today so look out! ?
-
Thanks guys. Yeah, many people have good memories of these cars it seems that questions how bad the motor press actually made them out to be. Same go's for the Morris Marina here in the UK, they had their issues yes, but no more than any other car of the time. They actually ranked very high in safety tests, even beating some higher end cars.

You got your work cut out there! I'll be following, I love seeing old promo rescues.
-
Thanks mate. The colour is called Rover Applejack. More or less Avocado green, a very 70's colour. One thing I'll give credit to Ford for regarding the Pinto, they came in loads of fun colours, and dare I say, didn't look a bad car to be honest.
-
Well, this is neither one of the colours I had in mind when I started, Lol. It's not easy being green, but it sure looks good.
-
Thanks mate. I was very conscious of how little material was there to drill I was breaking a sweat! Lol
-
Cheers mate. Yeah, when I was looking up AMT Pinto builds and Pinto promos the original versions look so much cleaner.
-
Filled in the large gap between the chassis and interior tub. Looks a bit ugly but they wont really be seen when the wheels are fitted. Far better than seeing daylight through there!
-
Nice work there on the suspension and brake discs. I love stuff like this, cutting up parts and making them fit exactly the way you want them too, it's loads of fun.?
-
Tried my hand at hinging the hatch using a paper clip, a mod I learned from this forum, but the ones I've seen have a bit more meat on the part than what's on the Pintos hatch. The only way I could do it was drilling incredibly small holes in the hatch frame! The real car's hatch hinges from those tiny external nubs at the top but they are so tiny I don't think it would be possible to hinge it from those.

Beautiful looking builds there. The MK IV Continental is my favorite body style.
