Thanks guys. Got some more done today. Engine bay detailing is mostly finished. Made a pistol grip shift from a riffle I had in the spares tin, made some arm rests up for the doors and put electric window switches in there, I think the switches are from the '57 Fairlane. I've wired up the slant six distributor including one for the coil, and even added some wires for the alternator. I'll add heater hoses too when I get the engine in, Lol!

Very nice foil work. Love the colours, especially the interior. Super nice build.

Very nice build, I'll have to get one of these.

Lol. c'mon guys, where's the love for this old MPC kit? xD it is pretty bad though. I've decided to go to town on this kit now, so I added some detail like the filler pieces on the rear wings and added panel lines to separate the front wings from the rocker panels. I have electric window switches in my spares tin for the interior and I might make a pistol grip shift from one of the many many guns that came with the MPC Squad Rod! There are no RT decals in this kit and no scripts on the body, so, I thought why not put the slant six in there from my '64 Belvedere?! It drops straight in and fits nicely, the only mod needed is to cut off one of the exhausts from the axle. The vinyl roof is done, and I got some detailing done on the dashboard and firewall. I might even wire the engine and add hoses and such, might as well now with the amount of work it took getting it to this point!

AMT Fruehauf Trailer
doorsovdoon replied to doorsovdoon's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Thanks, Ricky. It always surprises me when someone says a build of mine could pass for the real thing, it's the highest complement, thank you! Thanks, James. It's my favourite semi build so far. Look forward to seeing your build, I love Kenworths. -

I heard this kit suffers from horrendous fit issues and requires a ton of work to even make it look half good.... so on that note I went ahead and bought one! I'm going with turquoise blue metallic with white vinyl roof and white interior. I've always liked the look of these cars with Magnum 500 wheels but this kit doesn't come with them, so I'll be using a set from my spares tin. On opening the box I could see straight away how much millage they've got out of this mould over the years. I've spent the best part of three days shaving, cutting, trimming, and even adding some filler to get the bumpers and grill to fit the body, even the body needed work, otherwise I'd have no grill or bumpers left to trim! I honestly thought the rear bumper was a mistake and not for this kit, xD! Anyway, bad kits don't really bother me and I enjoyed fixing these crazy fit issues, certainly the worst I've worked with so far. If you don't like fit issues I recommend you stay well away from this one, Lol!

AMT Fruehauf Trailer

I've done a couple of big rig builds now but only one trailer and I gave that to my dad for Christmas. Seeing my rigs looking incomplete I picked this Coca Cola version up a few months back to complete the cool look! Great kit, it builds up nice and easy. Instructions are not the best, but it's obvious where most of the parts go so it's not really an issue. The one thing that needed attention was the rear doors, they are too wide by about a mm which push the side panels out when the doors are closed, trimming a sliver off the edge fixed it. Decals are from the AMT GMC Astro. They're very thick decals, good if you need to move them around without tearing, bad if you have no decal solvent! I've included a couple of pics of it hooked up to my Kenworth Aerodyne.

That's looking good, chassis and cab look to be a great fit. I like the colour scheme on it too. -

Thanks, Bisiaux. Thanks, Larry:) Cheers mate, I'll be back from the dark side soon, haha! I'm just finishing up a semi trailer to post in under glass. I haven't done a WIP on it as there's not much to show, it's just a plastic box really. You'll like the next build I have coming up, the MPC Dodge Charger, a real dog of a kit apparently but I'm looking forward to it. -

Cheers mate. Yeah, it's always nerve wracking when you have to mask your own lines. I find silver foil ducting tape and Tamiya tape are the best things to use for masking as they don't bleed the paint or absorb it like normal masking tape. -

Autocar dumper

Will do, thanks. Yeah, I worry I'll end up making my model look like just a messy painted model rather than looking weathered. -

Thanks, guys. Yes, not the easiest kit but I've always liked problem solving. -

Well, for your first trial it came out looking spectacular! Honestly, it looks really good. I've yet to venture into weathering other than a little blackwash here and there. I need to take that brave step and chuck some dirt on my builds. -
