I feel like i’m stuck in a slow time capsule with this engine build. It seems like this should have been finished days ago but no, I’m still here adding details.
-
Whooo boy this is exciting stuff!
-
Tidy work on that engine and headers there Jim!

Those are what I refer to as “Bench squirrels”

@LennyB every time I go looking for something I find cooler stuff!

Thank you Len, they do look awesome when they are finished. Lots of little details to work with. I actually found the pump I was looking for, it was still in the box that I had Initially found it in🤨

Al the small fiddly bits are starting to fall into there places, still a ton more detail painting to be done as well. Working on fuel lines as well but need to find the fuel pump, probably still in the box I looked at it in.

Well it seems like you are off to a start on this project, interested to see how you weather it.

Clean as a bottom, channel and section it

Well if you take away the hinges you might as well give it solenoid poppers and make sure to also get rid of dumbos nose on the trunk. Make it a custom.

I like “Jimbos hot rod high rise manifold”!

I think the engine is going to take the longest to do☹️, between cleaning all the resin bits to prepare for paint and making sure all the parts play well together, the Harmon Collins magneto while a very cool part does cause some interference with the waterpump pulleys and belt so a switch to a side mount was necessary. Now after some research it seems that a lot of the thickstun pieces were originally sold in red, I’m not a fan of that much red, so I’m still deciding on a finish that will be pleasing to my eye! I may introduce “some” red but not a lot. I’m still contemplating the wire looms. We will see how this all turns out

I’ve never thought to leave myself notes, but my memory isn’t fading yet!😜

It was unpainted plastic, all those details have been sorted.

When I moved back to NFLD last year I visited my sister and she told me there was a box in the basement that I had left behind when I left in 2002, so I went down and had a look. It was a large box of model kits and parts and finished builds that I had from the late eighties to the early nineties. As I dug into the box a bit deeper my brother in law was there and remarked that there was one that caught his eye. So I poked that one aside with the idea of doing a sympathetic restore one day. I’ll start with the as it was pics and then show the after, this was done in the period of 24 hours. And yes I wished I had new chrome for it. All I did was disassemble ( I was a sparing glue user back then) so it came apart rather nicely. Clean, do some mild paint touchups, polish the paint out and reassemble. I did add the decals that I neglected to put on back then. It was a fun project and it filled some time. The plan is to give it to him when he visits again. This is now a true survivor and an example of my early automotive car building.

This is the oldest surviving build of my automotive building, this would have been done around 1990 or 1991. It’s currently getting a sympathetic restore( Reggie it back together) and will be a gift to my Brother in law for his office.

I was wondering what that smell was🤨

There is a lot of truth in your words, the real showcase of work is here in the wip sections.

The tedious tasks that we do to make things that will not be seen often look closer to real!
