1971 Ford F250 Ranger XLT 4x4
OldSkool81 replied to Chuck Most's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Huh, that's kinda funny... Those big 1/20 Desert Dogs from the Deserter kit that you're talking about, I bet they're from such kits as the HighJacker Ford Van, which I also have, and am at the same point with it as Moebius' lifted F-250 kit: too much lift, not enough tire!!!😅 Not a lot of tire options for the 1/20 HighJacker though, especially for people with no 3D printers😔 -

Love it! It looks so right! Quick question, since I have the lifted F250 kit and was considering these tires... Are all Desert Dog tires the save size from one kit to the other? Like between the Sod Buster, Jeep Golden Hawk and the 1982 Bronco? -
New truck/trailer kits?
OldSkool81 replied to zaina's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That Coke Ford truck, the beverage body itself I'd love to see available, because I remember vividly as a kid that every single one of those Ford C-series I saw were Labatt beer delivery trucks! That would be my build if that body was available! -
Finally arrived today!!! I really wanted one, but was kinda put off by the price... Most Canadian shops asked 350$CAD (around 255$US), with the best price I've seen being 299$CAD (218$US); which was still a bit much for me. But, remembering what happened with the 1/12 Lancia Delta, which sold for the same prices when new, but went on sale after a while around 200$CAD (146$US) for the San Remo Rally version which I jumped on, I stayed patient. Then shoutout to Great Hobbies, which about a week and a half ago had one of their "overstock sales" and I was fortunate enough to get the last one at 209$CAD (152US$)!!!! Couldn't let that one go by!!!

AMT 1:25 Twisted Metal “Sweet Tooth” Ice cream van
OldSkool81 replied to gasman's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Well, it's clearly based on a Grumman Step Van, so let's hope they engineer it well enough so that it can later be reissued as different kits, such as a food truck, SWAT truck, tool truck, milk truck, etc. -
Not sure if I'll get anything; I'm not familiar with the Mustang, so I'll wait for HPIGuys' review to compare it maybe to Revell's GT350H, mainly to see if it has a detailed chassis or a plain one with molded in exhaust and/or drivetrain. The Willys is cool, because if I'm not mistaken, the slotted wheels look like the same ones as Mike Finnegan had on Blasphemi at some point, so could be a good donor. And as for the weird show rods, I'm not really into them; the only ones that may slightly tickle my fancy is Atlantis' Pie Wagon or Monogram's good ol' Paddy Wagon! Anyways, my comment is not meant to be negative; Round 2 has plenty up my alley coming 'till the end of the year that this month just gives me a short bit of extra time to save up for those other upcoming models!!!

Moebius 1971 Lifted Ford F250 4x4 announcement
OldSkool81 replied to Erik Solie's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Sorry but I'm kinda confused; am I still looking at the lifted truck kit or the plow truck kit? Because the suspension looks less intense than the lifted kit... If I got it right, it's the plow truck with widened steelies, on the lifted truck's tires? It does look pretty good!!! -
I'll take the risk and reply... Lego's are more popular than ever because they're low-effort. We now live in a fast world, where people want their stuff right now, as fast as possible with the least amount of effort. And Lego's are just that; just follow the plan and put it together, nothing else to do. No prep, no trimming, no test fit, no painting and no glue. To each their own I guess, but I'm 44, and as a kid (like 3 to 7), Lego's where the first step before graduating to models. I worked with a young guy a couple of years ago; great kid raised by his grandparents with old school values, he's around 22 or 23 now. He once built 2 or 3 models, and told me he quit because of the work involved, and also because of recent model prices. His main hobby is now PC gaming. When I was an early teen, my available hobbies where TV, car magazines, model building and R/C cars. Video games only became more addictive more in my mid twenties, so yeah my childhood mosty revolved around model kits. Also, I think one has to get pulled into model making; me, and every modeler I know were brought in the hobby because their parents or someone bought them their first model. I still don't know anybody that got into the hobby on their own, deciding on it and buying themselves their first model, from the people I know at least. And to finish, I think it's an important hobby on many points; reading plans, spatial viewing, learning about the different components (on vehicle models at least), develloping manual skills and observation, imagination, and most important: patience! If you devellop the patience it takes to build a model, chances are that you might be able to actually finish a real-life project such as restoring a car, for example...

Land Rover Series III - Revell
OldSkool81 replied to Technics's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I've been following this W.I.P. for a good while, and I think you absolutely nailed the weathering! I work as a mechanic at a tool, equipment and heavy machinery rental business, and I regularly see different kinds of materials and metals age and weather, in different ages and states, and I can really say that yours is spot on!!!- 20 replies

Moebius 1971 Lifted Ford F250 4x4 announcement
OldSkool81 replied to Erik Solie's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Ok, well I didn't know it was a widespread thing! My real-life Jeep Comanche does that, because the body tapers in towards the front. Fully stock, you don't notice it because the wheels are burried deep the wheel wells, but when you add fatter tires and the fronts are flush with the fender flares while the rears still are a bit set in, it's annoying!!! I thought it was isolated to my particular brand and model of truck though. But I guess it showcases the level of accuracy Moebius puts in their kits!!! -

OldSkool81 replied to Erik Solie's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Those lift-to-tire size proportions look better IMO; the stock wheels and tires would've worked well with a more subtle lift. And BTW, is it an optical illusion, or the front wheels are sticking out past the fenders way more than the rears? -
Thank you Luc, for now making me want a kit that I didn't know I needed, *SIGH*... All jokes aside, I'll absolutely get one. Lately, I've been on a shopping spree to buy and make a stash of 1/35 military trucks from around the world, such as the Hummer, M37, UAZ Buhanka and 469, MAZ 537, KrAZ 255B, ZIL-131, WW2 GMC's, etc. Still need an Unimog and some URALs, and that Chevy will do nicely with the other American trucks!
-
Aren't those still available where you live? Kit #AMT1363; here in Canada, a bunch of my online hobby shops still have some in stock. Surely your suppliers also have some left? And no, I didn't call you Shirley!!!! 🤣

Phew, good to know! The Pro-Street chassis is good, having buit the Super Bee version back in the day, but having also built the 1968 stock RoadRunner, that stock B-Body chassis in one of the best in the business! By the way Steve, one of those two kits in the 90's (can't remember which one) came with the parts for the rare overhead cam Hemi; are those parts or molds still around?

Grills for Revell's Stranger Things Blazer
OldSkool81 replied to WillyBilly's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Well, from what I see, one could do Burt's Blazer from Tremors with that 1990 grille... Now we need a 1/25 1973 to 1980 front clip conversion so I can also do John Matrix's Blazer from Commando!!! -
Count me in for one of those Blazers! Either a 4 door to do a correct replica of that Mooneyes truck I saw in Truckin' Magazine back in 1995, or a 2 door to do a "what if" version of that truck!!!
-
I'm just grateful that you got to have it green lighted! I'm 44, so I'm always happy to see kits from my "nostalgia years" I.E. 80's, 90's and early 2000's! I don't care about the interior or styling update inaccuracies, because prior to reading the comments, I had no idea about those. And people checking out my models on the shelves at home will also be none the wiser. And Luc brought up a good point; I also did the same thing with my previous daily driver 1998 Ford Ranger. It was a 4 banger single cab stepside, and I later converted the front end to a 2003 with a Ranger Edge Powerdome hood, grille, headlights and bumper. And I also had Ranger Level II Alcoa wheels, so pretty much a melting pot of Ranger parts! I'll definetly get one of those XTreme kits, and speaking of the Ranger, if R2 ever bring back the Ranger Splash kit (which is on my want list) I wouldn't mind the same updated treatment, even if it's not 100% accurate to the very last detail!

Ricky Rudd Tide Lumina
OldSkool81 replied to hall907's topic in Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Just WOW!!! Great build! No joke, it gives me butterflies in my stomach, bringing me right back as a 9 year-old, on a week-end, watching Nascar on TSN, and let's face it, as a kid, waiting for a huge crash!!!! -
I wasn't sure about putting this in the 1:1 reference section since it's a video, so feel free to do so if it's more appropriated. One of my regular YT channels, The Fast Lane (TFL) just did a tour of the Mack museum, and I've seen a lot of cool trucks from every point in Mack's history, as well as many engine and mechanical parts displays. This video's got lots of reference potential IMO. Enjoy!!!!

Superb build!!! But I think my mind is playing tricks on me; I got one in the '90's with the same box art as you IIRC (a blue C5) but never was enthusiastic enough to start it because I'm pretty sure it was the Hardtop version, while my favorite is the Coupe version like yours... I'll have to double check to see what I have! I love your choice of paints, because while it looks showroom-new, your metallic paints have a kind of subtle dept that makes it look more like a real car rather than like a model!
-
Wow, just WOW!!! I have two of those in the stash... Turns out that as kid, I received this kit twice either as a birthday or Christmas gift. Big bodied cars not being my cup of tea at the time, with my focus more on muscle cars, I never even started this kit. Yours looks so good that it makes me want to dig one of mine up and start building! I do remember they were really nicely detailed kits! Great job!!!

Revell: Stranger Things; Billy´s Chevy Camaro
OldSkool81 replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Dang, that sucks... Every hobby shop seems to have a bunch of those Trans Ams, and sell them cheap like they just can't get rid of them; it could've been a good donor canditate. Ah well.... -
Revell: Stranger Things; Billy´s Chevy Camaro
OldSkool81 replied to Luc Janssens's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I know my fair share about muscle cars, but I'm not a Camaro God, so pardon my ignorance... But could the roof from the Revell/Monogram 1/24 1970 Trans Am be used? The ST Camaro and the 70 Trans Am are the same generation of F-bodies, right? Or is the Trans Am roof just as bad?
