  1. I'm well on my way to finishing a 1966 GT350. This is the first kit that I have put together in ages and have been using the old Testors glue in the orange tube, I typically use a tooth pick to apply the glue. The windows in this kit are cut very close to the size of the opening, when installing the windshield I got a smear of testors glue on the bottom potion of the winfshield (winshield slid once it was in place. I did some research and it looks like there are alternatives in the glue in the orange tube. Please let me know whst you use or recommend. I'm kind of bummed out about this, this has been the best I've ever done building a kit, I sprayed and polished the best paint job I have ever done. I'll post some pics. Thank you edit: I found a replacement windshield on ebay for 5.99 + 5.00 shipping. I'm tempted to buy it, but it cost 1/2 as much as the kit. i'll see if i can get the old one out before I buy it though
  2. Looking great! Your repair job on the wheel well looks good. Any thoughts on color?
  3. Well, this has come to a screaching hault. Missing too may of the small pieces to finish it out. It was a sucess in the fact that I learned a lot about airbrushing and craft paints. My confidence level has been boosted. I'm going to try a new in the box kit with all the pieces now.
  4. The CB and dash look really good. Can't wait to see if come together
  5. Great build, i really like the stance and love the engine. Both ways
  6. Really nice work. You have some great skills!
  7. Please keep this thread going! I’m extremely interested.
  8. Ok. So I went to HarborFreight and bought the airbrush and compressor combo, the airbrush didn’t work at all. Took it back and they gave me a new one. Good people. went to hobby lobby and picked up some “all surface” craft paint and some plastic spoons at the supermarket. I sanded some spoons down with 600 grit sandpaper and started experimenting The black ones are rough because I was learning and testing the durability of the paint. These are shot with the HarborFreight airbrush with no primer. Then “cleared” with future floor polish. Once I got the hang of it, I wet sanded the old Silverado with 600 using the old black rattle can paint as a leveler. I decided I would paint it what the bottle said was metallic black I carely thinned the paint with windshield washer fluid til I thought it was right and started putting on thin coats, making sure the the last coat was total dry to the touch before moving to the next coat Omce I had the coverage I wanted, I started putting the future on. Slowly at first them some really wet coats Pc I wish I could capture the color and shine on my iPhone , these pics really don’t do it justice! I will never use a rattle can again. If I learned anything today, it’s that my spoon painting skills are stellar haha
  9. Truly amazing work on this! You have skills!
  10. Trying my hand at a kit I started about 25 years ago and did a poor job! This will be a mash up on an old Silverado kit and part from the “extra parts box”. I’ve not done much model building in a while..and i’m Not near at the level as most on this forum. here is the spare parts engine I’m going to use poorly brush painted interior- lots of “unwanted texture” 25 year old Rattle can paint with lots more “unwanted texture” I plan on sanding the body body to smooth it out and try a few different acrylic paints through and airbrush. I’ve never used acrylic paint or an airbrush before so this is going to be interesting! If nothing else, I hope to provide some comic relief! I’ll keep this thread updated as I go along. I work a lot so progress will probably be slow.
  11. Thanks for the info! I picked up a late model Camaro kit and started on it last night. I have a 2015 Camaro and wanted to replicate it. The kit is very basic, and molded in metalic green. I sanded on the body a bit and washed with dish soap, throughly rinsed and dried it completely. I had a rattle can of Testors gloss black enamel that I had sitting in front of a small space heater to warm it up, also warmed up the body. I sprayed a tack coat (outside about 30 degrees) and brought the body back in and placed back in front of the space heater for a few munites, constantly turning it to ensure even tempurature. Then a second light coat and a little more time in front of the heater. The third coat, I wanted to put on heavier and about 1/2 way through the rattle can started spraying like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. I made sure it was warm and well mixed. The finsh came out super shiny and even (minus a couple tiny bubbles) over all im happy with it, however I sprayed it yesterday and this morning I went to check it out and it seems like the paint is very soft. Is this typical for testors? I bought the paint at hobby lobby, and who knows how long it sat there. How long should I let it sit to see if it will harden? I am seriously thinking about picking up an airbrush for the consistensy of the spray and also I'd like to use some water based paints.
  12. Thanks for the warm welcome. I am mostly interested in learning about getting great paint jobs on plastic model cars. Is there a particualr part of the forum that discusses this? or a thread soemone cam point me to? Thanks
