Pics from the 2010 CLASSIC PLASTIC SHOW in Ma.
Jon Cole replied to Jon Cole's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Sorry guys, I don't know who built those. That is one advantage that NNL's have over contests like this one... the builders can put their name on the registration tags. The few models that I know who built, I will go back and label. -
Pics from the 2010 CLASSIC PLASTIC SHOW in Ma.

Well, I screwed that up royally, didn't I? Sorry about that. I corrected the original link, I'm also adding it here as well, and I will check it to make sure it works. Thanks for your patience. http://public.fotki.com/JCole/model_car_shows/classic-plastic-2010/ -
BTW Emanuel, that car is available in plastic by more than one manufacturer. Both Revell, and Revell-Germany issued it, as well as Fujimi

If you can find some 2-part epoxy, it works great for joining dissimiliar materials, such as plastic to metal.

Curt, this is going to be one of "those" builds, isn't it? As in "Over The Top" The Atlantic is an iconic car of style... I think you'll do good!
-
The green car was built by Darren B; the pink car was built by vw1953. If they don't want to fix their pics, then perhaps someone could post their own builds, thus pushing the silly photos off the page. That in turn may knock the boards assumed maturity level back up a notch or two.

Nice! I don't recall ever seeing the Audi rally available in Sanyo sponsorship... did those decals come in the kit; or are they aftermarket?
-
Welcome to the board. Unfortunately, you have already shot the horse (threw the kit away), so seeking advice on how to fix it is moot. I don't have the kit in question, but I am sure others here can help you. Did you build it according to instructions? Occasionally, the instructions are not 100% accurate. Test fitting sub assemblies is suggested. Building models can be a test of patience. If you can go find the kit parts, maybe you will find out what is in the way. Can you post a photo of the parts, if you find them?

Ha. Ha. Cars at the top of the board pointing in different directions. Funny at first... now it just looks stupid. The joke is over people. There is very limited space to display model cars up there, let's use it wisely. Just sayin'....

The Most Dangerous Car You've Ever Owned
Jon Cole replied to David G.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Two words that go hand in hand… “Corvairâ€, and “dangerousâ€. The early models had that funky right-angle axle to hub rear suspension… only one u-joint per halfshaft. We have a rural road that runs through a small town; there is an ‘S’ bend near the towns center. Not a level ‘S’ bend, but a rather pronounced dip in the road. Just to keep it interesting, it has railroad tracks running across it. I took the curve one day in my ’63 Corvair Spyder doing maybe 30. The back end went airborne, and when it landed, it took the entire width of the road to straighten it out. My new girlfriend was not amazed for some reason… but I found it rather fun! I did gain a new respect for what that car was able to do! -
Not your father's Oldsmobile! Nice job.

Do you keep the box?
Jon Cole replied to Hattley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a card carrying Pack Rat, I tend to save most every box. I even cut up and save the sprue! -
Sounds like you are overdue to give it another shot. It is, after all, just another color paint. No magic involved.
-
Maybe it's a demon car? Right now it appears to be going off a cliff.

I suggest you avoid anything that is in a clear plastic one-piece syringe style container with two barrels. When you squeeze down on the plunger, it is supposed to come out in equal parts. It rarely did for me. But then again, Lady Luck hates me. I prefer to buy the small Devcon 2-part squeeze tubes. Just stir it up real good... you should have about 4 minutes working time before it starts to set. That is true about not touching unwanted glue excess. If any were to ooze out of the edges of a windshield after positioning, just let it sit until it is about 50% cured... then use a toothpick to peel it up and out.

Back in the day, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, men were men and sheep were nervous, we knuckleheads in the auto body trade frequently used acrylic lacquer to do partial repaints, blends, and panel spraying. We used the Dupont System, and would often mix in-house, or buy pint cans of lacquer. We would mix it with thinner right in the spray gun cup and shoot it. Clear lacquer available, but we rarely used it. Most of my time was in domestic automobile dealer body shops. Fix it, paint it, buff it, get it out the door. Ahh, those were th *>~cough! cough!~<" ...days.

What do your contest displays look like?
Jon Cole replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the playing field is level… so if someone wants to make a display, more power to ‘em! As long as the display doesn’t cross the line into ‘Dioramas’. Classic Plastic uses a points system for judging their contest. Chassis is one of the… five (iirc) judged categories. If they cannot see it, nor allowed to pick up the model to look under it, than you; the builder, are out of luck! Even in points judging, a tie still happens. That means they go back for a second look. If the judges have not read your description before, they sure will the second time! While I don’t like a tall sign that blocks a view of another model, I think that is less likely to happen than running into “table hogsâ€. It seems that the first people to park their builds think they can claim the entire table! Once the space gets crowded, I can still see who the “table hog†was. Man I hate that! -

The heck with a walker... I'll get a Segway with Minilite wheels . -

An acrylic display holding a typeset description is always a good idea. I don’t care to decipher the chicken scratchings of poorly hand wrote displays. I would suspect that the judges are not too thrilled about them either, but that’s just an assumption on my part. Even without acrylic, a good typeset description is a must. I also use a disk that I decorated to display the model on; many will use mirrors which look great. I did this one maybe fifteen years ago. That was before I knew what a “kompootur†was, so I had someone do the typeset quotations for me. I never really did advance beyond the ‘colored pencils’ stage of artwork. EDIT: I just realized that one roll of checkerboard contact paper really goes a long ways! -
It is most likely real. And tacky.
