  1. It's been too long since updating this one. Probably doesn't help that I progress at a snail's pace. All I have to show is some filling in on the gap. I am having a hard time getting the side body style line to form on the rear quarter... I just did a prime on it tonight, hope I have it close to say the least. This will be a '57, so the side trim will be less involved than the '58. Not too sure where this will end up... maybe a custom w/o side trim?
  2. That is one nice Desoto! Looks good. Oh, tell Slim to go eat a sandwich!
  3. Now that is a fixer-upper! What is the appraised value? I think you can borrow up to 80% of that, which could come in handy for home repairs. You have your work cut out for you. Home repair could be considered a hobby by itself. Two words for your near future... "Paint Party!"
  4. Now if we could get one in scale to go along with the 1:1? From Jalopnik: Did you know Ford announced around Father's Day they'd be selling complete reproduction 1966 Ford Bronco bodies? Neither did we, but now we know they're headed for a public debut at this year's SEMA show. The all-steel bodies are being produced under license from Ford Component Sales and sold through the California-based Dynacorn, which has been working with Ford on vintage Mustangs for the last few years. The '66 Bronco is one of the company's most iconic vehicles and a darling of the off-roading community — meaning the trucks get bashed up and twisted into pretzels with an unpleasant regularity. These steel bodies will be built off original Ford tooling used in production so everything will be exactly as it was when it came off the production line. Builders will be able to swap all the parts off their old truck onto their new body then move the VIN plates over for a road legal vehicle. Remember, it's just another part number so that's legal. The other option is to buy a body without a VIN handy and just build an off-road-only truck, The new body will debut at this year's SEMA show, hoisted above the Ford stand, the automotive equivalent of looking a race horse in the mouth.
  5. I finally picked up the Model T / Chopped T two kit combo. I think it's only the second kit I have bought this year.
  6. Just too much! That is TOO GOOD! I would bet my bottom dollar that your close-up shots could fool some into believing the pics are of a 1:1 machine! You do fantastic work, John!
  7. Thank you to everyone who helped me out with this one. My wife just placed the order for my GPS... it will be my b-day gift. A special thank you for the support. You folks understand that we are a community as well as a hobby board. I knew you people would give me the answers I needed, as we have such a good cross section of "everyday people"... and that's a good thing! Now I'm gonna go open up that model kit I bought yesterday. That's my present to me!
  8. Skip- Let me point some things out to you. 1. I am NOT going to join any other forum just to ask one question, much less take more time to find it than I have already invested. 2. As I previously stated, I did attempt to find the answer by other means. I did a Google search. 3. As Aaron stated, if this is such a burden to you, then why did you even take the time to respond? 4. The post is clearly labeled "OT". That pretty much sums it up.
  9. Correct you are. From that angle, the hole looked oval and off centered.
  10. Hardware store paints… not sure what those are. All I can say is to avoid enamel primers such as Testors. DupliColor primers work, but can go “hotâ€, I like them. PlastiKote primers are good. Lacquer colors spray sooo good! You just want to be sure to have a good primer under them. Krylons, in my opinion, spray way too much volume out of the can, and are chemically “hotâ€. Others swear by them. PlastiKote and DupliColor are again good paints. From the hobby shelves, any LACQUER by Testors or Tamiya is hard to beat. I have heard that many spray these on raw plastic; no primer required. I prefer to use primers… old habit. Better safe than sorry. There is so many “right†answers to this Q, just take it all in, and try what works for you.
  11. Here is what I tell anyone when this subject comes up (and it does!)... I am a CAR SLUT! True that! I love them all! Well... maybe all, except donks. Life... is a span of time waiting for the next model to be built! I am still waiting to build a: lowrider big rig 50's custom 60's custom rat rod weathered beater funny car gasser rail vintage Nascar model T ...and so much more! There is so many styles of models to tap in to. Sadly, I am getting slower at it. I also want to start building models of cars (& trucks) I have owned.
  12. Well ain't this just cherry! I find the GPS I want @ Staples yesterday for $169.99... go back today to show the wife (it will be a gift from her); and today the price is $219.99! So they can go pound sand! Does anyone use the "realtime traffic" feature? Thanks!
  13. Don't burnish the BMF too much before trimming, you can do that after it is trimmed. A light touch with the X-Acto blade is the trick when trimming BMF. Also consider working under a magnafied lamp. If you wander off-course with the knife, try again. Nothing short of real metal trim looks as good as BMF. BTW, I like your avatar. You knew my mother in law?
  14. I really like the Red Ram Hemi As for the Rampside owner... displaying a "bumper baby" instantly earns them a "dork" status.
  15. Hey Dave, I REALLY like your sig line quote! It rings so true. I may add it to my e-mail.
  16. Tom, Why is there a hole in the roof? Or should I say "how"? Wouldn't the fire be done by time they cut the roof?
  17. Based on my experience with Lady Luck, if I buy the '77 CanAm from RMR, then a model kit of same will definitely hit the shelves within two years.
  18. OT- anyone here own or recommend a GPS unit? I plan on buying one, what features should I look for? I did Google it, but I just get ads.
  19. I agree w/ Mark... to a limit. If they can justify spending tooling money for midget racers, they could certainly justify the CanAm. Also factor in some basic truths... for the sake of their business to keep moving forward, they must make new tooling from time to time. They have had some success... and some flops. Same can be said for many businesses. I tend to discount any claims that the kit manufacturers have a crystal ball that helps them choose "winners". Also factor in the almost certain fact that the average model car builder has a better chance of having sat in, or even seen the CanAm, as compared to the Midget. I'm not bashing the Midget race cars; I am just making a comparison of familiarity between the two subjects. As cool as a kit of the CanAm would be, I think there are indeed better selling ideas out there. How about more convertible retools of existing kits, such as the Mustang?
  20. KDog! That has to be on of the sweetest late-model Challys seen yet!
  21. Mike, real tasty lookin' Charger you built! Hope to see it @ Classic Plastic!
  22. That is some amazing conversion work there! By far the nicest Ranchero I can remember!
  23. If you use a photo hosting service, the photos are resized automatically. I use Fotki, but many here use Photobucket.
  24. I voted "Model". Not because of any visual clues, but because I have Harry's house wiretapped, so I know.
  25. At $50 full retail, I just cannot afford to buy at the local hobby shop, at least on this one. I haven't mail ordered a kit in years, but it looks like that is what I will do for this. Maybe scoff up a few other kits I have been putting off buying at the same time to save on shipping.
