Josh, I would love to comment on your model... if I could see it. You need to back off with your camera, and use the 'close-up' feature if it has one. If the camera has a manual, read it. Hope you get some decent pics and try again.

Thanks Steve. No plug wires, much of the underhood goodies I added. I used to drive an El Camino with complete BGN drivetrain. I would go out into the barn and look for more engine detail to add. Boy, I miss that car!

Mat- That is quite an ambitious build you did there! Doing a replica is always tricky. I see you did ask for our opinions however. The first thing that jumps out is the rear door line edge you added is way too far forward. That, along with the rear post you added, should be back enough so it forms what is known as a “dog leg†near the rear wheel opening, and would be a narrow "dog leg" curve. The pins in the grille seem to have a random pattern to them, at least to my eye. Did you measure out the pattern before you drilled any holes? I hope this isn’t too harsh on you. The subject of posting unconditional praise recently came up here on the board, with the consensus seeming to be, if someone asks for opinions, we should do so openly and fair. With each build we do, we strive to do better than the one before. Keep at it!

Russell I don't know how big that gap is you had to fix, but I do know that green putty can lack strength, and tends to dry slow, and has shrinkage issues. Thin plastic strips, superglued to one or more edges will sand smooth and form a clean edge. I have seen the late-model Camaro transformed into a T/A. If I come across any pics, I will post, if the builder(s) don't do so first. If someone has the talent and skill to build that Chevy pickup, then they have the skill and talent to do it right! It may not be "rat", but it is "unfinished". It's no longer always an issue of money, as I think many feel this "half-baked" look = "kewl!" Really want to stretch your skill... and show off your talent? Then finish the ###### thing!

If you like, just copy & paste these speedometer pics on a Word page, shrink them down to size, and print them on photo paper. I found them by doing a Google Image search: I usually paste several copies of each gauge, each at a slightly different size... one of which should be sized correctly. VDO gauge: The same deal works for small stuff such as licence plates, etc. You may luck out, meaning if the speedo diameter happens to be 1/4", use the same size hole punch to cut out the image, and glue to the dash. EDIT: Sorry, the pics were moved to another Fotki folder. Just Google Image: "VW Beetle speedo".

Yeah, I can see that it's a shifter... err, make that shifters. That submarine running through the middle... iirc that may be a Lenco transmission(?), but a shifter for each gear? And what was that Olds 442 (from the eightees?) with two shifters? I never understood that.

I need a sanding stick trimmed to a point. What would be the best way to trim it?
